Ecclesiastes 1:2

“Vanity of vanities,” says the preacher, “Vanity of vanities. All is vanity.

Ecclesiastes 1:12-14

12 I, the preacher, have been king over Israel in Jerusalem.

13 And I have given my heart to search and find out wisdom by all things that are done under the heaven. God has given this sore travail to the sons of men to humble them.

14 I have considered all the works that are done under the Sun and behold, all is vanity and grasping at the wind.

Ecclesiastes 2:18-23

18 I also hated all my labor in which I had travailed under the Sun, which I shall leave to the man who shall come after me.

19 And who knows whether he shall be wise or foolish? Yet he shall have rule over all my labor in which I have travailed, and in which I have shown myself wise under the Sun. This is also vanity.

20 Therefore, I went about to make my heart abhor all the labor in which I had travailed under the Sun.

21 For there is a man whose travail is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in skill. Yet, he shall give his portion to a man who has not travailed in these. This also is vanity, and a great grief.

22 For what has man for all the labor and grief of his heart in which he has travailed under the Sun?

23 For all his days are sorrows, and his work grief. Also, his heart does not take rest in the night, which is also vanity.

Psalm 49:1-12

49 Hear this, all you people! Give ear, all you who dwell in the world,

low as well as high, both rich and poor!

My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart is of knowledge.

I will incline my ear to a parable and utter my high saying upon the harp.

Why should I fear in the evil days, when the iniquity at my heels shall surround me?

They trust in their goods and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches.

Yet a man can by no means redeem his brother. He cannot give his ransom to God,

(so precious is the redemption of their souls, and ceases forever)

so that he may yet live forever and not see the grave.

10 For he sees that wise men die; and also that the ignorant and foolish perish and leave their riches for others.

11 They think their houses and their habitations shall continue forever, from generation to generation. And they call their lands by their names.

12 But man shall not continue in honor. He is like the beasts that die.

Colossians 3:1-11

If you, then, are risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God.

Set your mind on things which are above, not on things which are on the Earth.

For you have died, and your life has been hidden with Christ in God.

When Christ (Who is your life) is revealed, then you shall also be revealed with Him in Glory.

Therefore, mortify those parts of your body which are of the Earth: fornication, impurity, depraved passions, lust, and covetousness (which is idolatry),

for the sake of which things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience;

and wherein also you once walked when you lived in them.

But now, however, take all these things out of your mouth also: anger, wrath, malice, slander, foul language.

Do not lie to one another, having put off the old man with his deeds

10 and having put on the new (who is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him who created him).

11 There is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but all, and in all, is Christ.

Luke 12:13-21

13 And one of the crowd said to Him, “Master, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”

14 And He said to him, “Man, who made Me a judge or a divider over you?”

15 Therefore He said to them, “Perceive and beware of covetousness. For though one has abundance, his life does not consist of his riches.”

16 And He put forth a parable to them, saying, “The ground of a certain rich man brought forth fruits plentifully.

17 “Therefore he thought to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my fruits?’

18 “And He said, ‘I will do this. I will pull down my barns and build bigger ones. And I will gather all my grain and my goods in there.

19 ‘And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Live at ease. Eat, drink, and be merry!”

20 “But God said to him, ‘O fool! This night your soul shall be required from you. Then whose things shall those be which you have provided?

21 “So is the one who gathers riches for himself and is not rich toward God.”
