Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
You Will Not Forsake My Soul
A [a]Mikhtam of David.
16 (A)Keep me, O God, for (B)I take refuge in You.
2 O my soul, you have said to Yahweh, “You are [b]my Lord;
I (C)have no good without You.”
3 As for the [c](D)saints who are in the earth,
They are the majestic ones (E)in whom is all my delight.
4 The [d](F)pains of those who have [e]bartered for another god will be multiplied;
I shall not pour out their drink offerings of (G)blood,
Nor will I (H)take their names upon my lips.
5 Yahweh is the (I)portion of my inheritance and my (J)cup;
You support my (K)lot.
6 The (L)lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my inheritance is (M)beautiful to me.
7 I will bless Yahweh who has (N)counseled me;
Indeed, my [f](O)mind instructs me in the night.
8 (P)I have (Q)set Yahweh continually before me;
Because He is (R)at my right hand, (S)I will not be shaken.
9 Therefore (T)my heart is glad and (U)my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will (V)dwell securely.
10 For You (W)will not forsake my soul to Sheol;
You will not (X)give Your [g]Holy One over to see [h]corruption.
11 You will make known to me (Y)the path of life;
In (Z)Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are (AA)pleasures forever.
22 Then Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and (A)blessed them, and he stepped down after offering the sin offering and the burnt offering and the peace offerings. 23 And Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting. Then they came out and blessed the people. And (B)the glory of Yahweh appeared to all the people. 24 (C)Then fire came out from before Yahweh and consumed the burnt offering and the portions of fat on the altar. And all the people saw it and shouted and fell on their faces.
Nadab and Abihu Offer Strange Fire
10 Then (D)Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective (E)firepans and put fire in them. Then they placed incense on it and offered strange fire before Yahweh, which He had not commanded them. 2 (F)And fire came out from the presence of Yahweh and consumed them, and they died before Yahweh. 3 Then Moses said to Aaron, “It is what Yahweh spoke, saying,
‘By those who (G)come near Me I [a](H)will be treated as holy,
And before all the people I will (I)be glorified.’”
So Aaron kept silent.
4 Then Moses called to (J)Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Aaron’s uncle Uzziel, and said to them, “Come near, carry your [b]relatives away from the front of the sanctuary to the outside of the camp.” 5 So they came near and carried them still in their (K)tunics to the outside of the camp, as Moses had said. 6 Then Moses said to Aaron and to his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “(L)Do not [c]uncover your heads nor tear your clothes, so that you will not die and that He will not (M)become wrathful against all the congregation. But your [d]relatives, the whole house of Israel, shall weep over the burning which Yahweh has [e]brought about. 7 You shall not even go out from the doorway of the tent of meeting, lest you die; for (N)the anointing oil of Yahweh is upon you.” So they did according to the word of Moses.
8 Yahweh then spoke to Aaron, saying, 9 “(O)Do not drink wine or strong drink, neither you nor your sons with you, when you come into the tent of meeting, so that you will not die—it is a perpetual statute throughout your generations— 10 and (P)so as to separate between the holy and the profane, and between the unclean and the clean, 11 and (Q)so as to instruct the sons of Israel in all the statutes which Yahweh has spoken to them through Moses.”
5 (A)Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; (B)examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you [a](C)fail the test? 6 But I hope that you will realize that we ourselves [b]do not fail the test. 7 Now we pray to God that you do no wrong, not that we ourselves may appear approved, but that you may do what is right, even though we may [c]appear unapproved. 8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth. 9 For we rejoice when we ourselves are (D)weak but you are strong. This we also pray for, [d]that you be (E)restored. 10 For this reason I am writing these things while absent, so that when present (F)I need not use (G)severity, in accordance with the (H)authority which the Lord gave me for building up and not for tearing down.
