Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
2 And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel (A)grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. 3 And the sons of Israel said to them, “(B)Would that we had died by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, (C)when we sat by the pots of [a]meat, when we ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to put this whole assembly to death with hunger.”
4 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, (D)I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may (E)test them, whether or not they will walk in My [b]law.
9 Then Moses said to Aaron, “Say to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘(A)Come near before Yahweh, for He has heard your grumblings.’” 10 Now it happened as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, that they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, (B)the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud. 11 And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “(C)I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Israel; speak to them, saying, ‘[a]At twilight you shall eat [b]meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread, so that (D)you shall know that I am Yahweh your God.’”
13 So it happened at evening that (E)the quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning (F)there was a layer of dew around the camp. 14 (G)Then the layer of dew [c]evaporated, and behold, on the [d]surface of the wilderness (H)there was a fine flake-like thing, fine as the frost on the ground. 15 And the sons of Israel saw it and said to one another, “[e]What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “(I)It is the bread which Yahweh has given you to eat.
23 Yet He commanded the skies above
And (A)opened the doors of heaven;
24 He (B)rained down manna upon them to eat
And gave them (C)grain from heaven.
25 Man ate the bread of [a]angels;
He sent them provision (D)to satisfy.
26 He (E)led forth the east wind in the heavens
And by His strength He guided the south wind.
27 Then He rained [b]meat upon them like the dust,
Even (F)winged fowl like the sand of the seas,
28 He caused them to fall in the midst of His camp,
All around His dwelling places.
29 So they (G)ate and were very satisfied,
And their desire He brought to them.
Unity of the Spirit
4 Therefore I, (A)the prisoner in the Lord, (B)exhort you to (C)walk worthy of the (D)calling with which you have been (E)called, 2 with all (F)humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another (G)in love, 3 being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the (H)bond of peace. 4 There is (I)one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one (J)hope of your calling; 5 (K)one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all (L)who is over all and through all and in all.
7 But (M)to each one of us (N)grace was given (O)according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore [a]it says,
9 (Now this expression, “He (R)ascended,” what [b]does it mean except that He also [c]descended into (S)the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended (T)far above all the heavens, so that He might (U)fill all things.) 11 And He Himself (V)gave (W)some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as (X)evangelists, and some as pastors and (Y)teachers, 12 (Z)for the equipping of the [d]saints for the work of service, to the building up of (AA)the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to (AB)the unity of the faith, and of the [e](AC)full knowledge of the Son of God, to a (AD)mature man, to the measure of the stature [f]which belongs to the (AE)fullness of Christ, 14 so that we are (AF)no longer to be children, (AG)tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by (AH)craftiness [g]in (AI)deceitful scheming, 15 but [h]speaking the truth (AJ)in love, [i]we are to (AK)grow up in all aspects into Him who is the (AL)head, that is Christ, 16 from whom (AM)the whole body, being joined and held together [j]by what every joint supplies, according to the properly (AN)measured working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself (AO)in love.
24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the small boats, and (A)came to Capernaum seeking Jesus. 25 And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “(B)Rabbi, when did You come here?”
I Am the Bread of Life
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you (C)seek Me, not because you saw (D)signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not (E)work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to (F)eternal life, which (G)the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, (H)set His seal.” 28 Therefore they said to Him, “What should we do, so that we may work the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is (I)the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He (J)has sent.” 30 So they said to Him, “(K)What then do You do for a (L)sign so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? 31 (M)Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘(N)He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, Moses has not given you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is [a]that which (O)comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, always (P)give us this bread.”
35 Jesus said to them, “(Q)I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me will never hunger, and he who believes in Me (R)will never thirst.
