Psalm 107:1-3

BOOK 5

Yahweh Saves in Times of Trouble

107 Oh (A)give thanks to Yahweh, for (B)He is good,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
Let (C)the redeemed of Yahweh say so,
Whom He has (D)redeemed from the hand of the adversary
And (E)gathered from the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the [a]south.

Psalm 107:23-32

23 Those who (A)go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business on many waters;
24 They have seen the works of Yahweh,
And His wondrous deeds in the deep.
25 He (B)spoke and set up a (C)stormy wind,
Which (D)raised up the waves [a]of the sea.
26 They went up to the heavens, they went down to the depths;
Their soul (E)melted away in the [b]calamity.
27 They staggered and (F)swayed like a drunken man,
And all their wisdom was swallowed up.
28 Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble,
And He brought them out of their distresses.
29 He (G)caused the storm to stand still,
So that its waves were hushed.
30 Then they were glad because they were quiet,
So He led them to their desired haven.
31 (H)Let them give thanks to Yahweh for His lovingkindness,
And for His (I)wondrous deeds to the sons of men!
32 Let them (J)exalt Him also (K)in the assembly of the people,
And (L)praise Him at the seat of the elders.

Job 29:1-20

Job Continues His Discourse

29 And Job continued to lift up his [a](A)discourse and said,

“Oh that I were as in months gone by,
As in the days when God (B)kept me,
When (C)His lamp shone over my head,
And (D)by His light I walked through darkness,
As I was in [b]the prime of my days,
When the (E)intimate counsel with God was over my tent,
When [c]the Almighty was yet with me,
And my children were around me,
When my steps were bathed in (F)butter,
And the (G)rock poured out for me streams of oil!
When I went out to (H)the gate of the city,
When I [d]took my seat in the square,
The young men saw me and hid,
And the old men arose and stood.
The princes (I)stopped talking
And (J)put their hands on their mouths;
10 The voice of the nobles was (K)hidden away,
And their (L)tongue clung to their palate.
11 For (M)the ear heard, and it called me blessed,
And the eye saw, and it gave witness of me,
12 Because I provided escape for (N)the afflicted who cried for help,
And the (O)orphan who had no helper.
13 The blessing of the one (P)ready to perish came upon me,
And I made the (Q)widow’s heart sing for joy.
14 I (R)clothed myself with righteousness, and it clothed me;
My justice was like a robe and a turban.
15 I was (S)eyes to the blind
And feet to the lame.
16 I was a father to (T)the needy,
And I searched out the case which I did not know.
17 I (U)broke the fangs of the unjust
And snatched the prey from his teeth.
18 Then I [e]said, ‘I will breathe my last [f]in my nest,
And I shall multiply my days as the sand.
19 My (V)root is spread out to the waters,
And (W)dew lies all night on my branch.
20 My glory is ever new with me,
And my (X)bow is renewed in my hand.’

Acts 20:1-16

Through Macedonia and Greece

20 Now after the uproar had ceased, Paul having summoned and exhorted (A)the disciples, said farewell and left (B)to go to (C)Macedonia. And when he had gone through those districts and had given them much exhortation, he came to Greece. And there he spent three months, and when (D)a plot was formed against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for (E)Syria, he decided to return through (F)Macedonia. And he was accompanied by Sopater of (G)Berea, the son of Pyrrhus, and by (H)Aristarchus and Secundus of the (I)Thessalonians, and (J)Gaius of (K)Derbe, and (L)Timothy, and (M)Tychicus and (N)Trophimus of [a](O)Asia. But these had gone on ahead and were waiting for (P)us at (Q)Troas. (R)And we sailed from (S)Philippi after (T)the days of Unleavened Bread, and came to them at (U)Troas within five days; and there we stayed seven days.

Eutychus Raised from the Dead in Troas

And on (V)the first day of the week, when (W)we were gathered together to (X)break bread, Paul began speaking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his [b]message until midnight. Now there were many (Y)lamps in the (Z)upper room where we were gathered together. And there was a young man named [c]Eutychus sitting on the windowsill, sinking into a deep sleep. And as Paul kept on talking, he sunk into that sleep and fell down from the third floor and was picked up dead. 10 But Paul went down and (AA)fell upon him, and after embracing him, he (AB)said, “[d]Do not be troubled, for his life is in him.” 11 And when he had gone back up and had (AC)broken the bread and [e]eaten, he talked with them a long while until daybreak, and then left. 12 And they took away the boy alive, and were not a little comforted.

Paul’s Farewell to the Ephesian Elders

13 But (AD)we, going ahead to the ship, set sail for Assos, intending from there to take Paul on board; for so he had arranged it, intending himself to go [f]by land. 14 And when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and came to Mitylene. 15 And sailing from there, we arrived the following day opposite Chios; and the next day we crossed over to Samos; and the day following we came to (AE)Miletus. 16 For Paul had decided to sail past (AF)Ephesus so that he would not have to spend time in [g](AG)Asia; for he was hurrying (AH)to be in Jerusalem, if possible, (AI)on the day of Pentecost.
