Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
My Prayer as Incense Before You
A Psalm of David.
141 O Yahweh, I call upon You; (A)hasten to me!
(B)Give ear to my voice when I call to You!
2 May my prayer be established as (C)incense before You;
The (D)lifting up of my hands as the (E)evening offering.
3 Set a (F)guard, O Yahweh, [a]over my mouth;
Keep watch over the (G)door of my lips.
4 (H)Do not incline my heart to any evil thing,
To practice deeds in wickedness
With men who are (I)workers of iniquity;
And (J)do not let me eat of their delicacies.
5 Let the (K)righteous smite me in lovingkindness and reprove me;
It is (L)oil upon the head;
Let not my head refuse it,
[b]For still my prayer (M)is [c]against their evil deeds.
6 Their judges are (N)thrown down by the sides of the cliff,
And they hear my words, for they are pleasant.
7 As when one (O)plows and splits open the earth,
Our (P)bones have been scattered at the (Q)mouth of Sheol.
8 For my (R)eyes are toward You, O Yahweh, O Lord;
In You I (S)take refuge; (T)do not pour out my soul to death.
9 Keep me from the [d](U)jaws of the trap which they have set for me,
And from the (V)snares of workers of iniquity.
10 Let the wicked (W)fall into their own nets,
As for myself—meanwhile, (X)I am passing by.
Yahweh’s Glory Returns to the Temple
43 Then he led me to the (A)gate, the gate facing toward the east; 2 and behold, the (B)glory of the God of Israel was coming from the way of the (C)east. And His (D)voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth (E)shone with His glory. 3 And it was like the appearance of the vision which I saw, like the (F)vision which I saw when [a]He came to (G)bring the city to ruin. And the visions were like the vision which I saw by the (H)river Chebar; and I (I)fell on my face. 4 And the glory of Yahweh came into the house by the way of the gate facing toward the (J)east. 5 And the (K)Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the (L)glory of Yahweh filled the house.
6 Then I heard one speaking to me from the house, while a (M)man was standing beside me. 7 He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of My (N)throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will (O)dwell among the sons of Israel forever. And the house of Israel will not again defile My holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their harlotry and by the [b](P)corpses of their kings [c]when they die, 8 by putting their threshold by My threshold and their door post beside My door post, with only the wall between Me and them. And they have (Q)defiled My holy name by their abominations which they have done. So I have consumed them in My anger. 9 Now let them (R)put away their harlotry and the [d]corpses of their kings far from Me; and I will (S)dwell among them forever.
10 “As for you, son of man, [e](T)describe the house of Yahweh to the house of Israel, that they may feel (U)dishonor for their iniquities; and let them measure the [f](V)plan. 11 If they feel dishonor for all that they have done, make known to them the [g]design of the house, its structure, its (W)exits, its entrances, all its designs, all its statutes[h], and all its laws. And write it (X)in their sight so that they may keep its whole [i]design and all its statutes and (Y)do them. 12 This is the [j]law of the house: within its entire boundary, on the top of the (Z)mountain all around, shall be most holy. Behold, this is the [k]law of the house.
Lament over Jerusalem
37 “(A)Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who (B)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, (C)the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you did not want it. 38 Behold, (D)your house is being left to you desolate! 39 For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say, ‘(E)Blessed is He who comes in the name of the [a]Lord!’”
Signs of Christ’s Return
24 (F)And coming (G)out from the temple, Jesus was going along, and His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him. 2 And He answered and said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, (H)not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down.”
3 Now as He was sitting on (I)the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of (J)Your coming and of the [b]end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them, “(K)See to it that no one deceives you. 5 For (L)many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the [c]Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you are going to hear of (M)wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7 For (N)nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be (O)famines and earthquakes. 8 (P)But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains.
9 “(Q)Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and (R)you will be hated by all nations because of My name. 10 And at that time many will [d](S)fall away and will [e]betray one another and hate one another. 11 Many (T)false prophets will arise and will deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness is multiplied, [f]most people’s love will grow cold. 13 (U)But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. 14 And this (V)gospel of the kingdom (W)shall be proclaimed in the whole [g](X)world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
