Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)

A Psalm of David.

¹ ¶ LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in the mountain of thy holiness?

² He that walks in integrity and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart.

³ He that does not backbite with his tongue nor does evil to his neighbour nor takes up a reproach against his neighbour.

⁴ In whose eyes the vile person is not esteemed; but he honours those that fear the LORD. He that swears to his own hurt and does not change.

⁵ He that does not put out his money to usury nor takes a bribe against the innocent. He that does these things shall never be moved.

¹⁰ ¶ And there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was grievous in the land.

¹¹ And it came to pass when he was come near to enter into Egypt that he said unto Sarai, his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon;

¹² therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee that they shall say, This is his wife, and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.

¹³ Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister, that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

¹⁴ ¶ And it came to pass that when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.

¹⁵ The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh, and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.

¹⁶ And he treated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep and oxen and he asses and menslaves and maidslaves and she asses and camels.

¹⁷ But the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.

¹⁸ And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? Why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?

¹⁹ Why didst thou say, She is my sister? I might have taken her to me to wife; now, therefore, behold thy wife, take her, and go away.

²⁰ Then Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they sent him away and his wife with all that he had.

5 ¶ For every high priest is taken from among men, constituted on behalf of men in things relating to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins,

² who can have compassion on the ignorant and on those that are in error; for he himself is also compassed with weakness.

³ And by reason of this he ought, as for the people so also for himself, to offer for sins.

⁴ And no one takes this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

⁵ So also the Christ did not glorify himself to make himself high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son; today have I begotten thee.

⁶ As he said also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
