³¹ “^(A)If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath, and he comes and takes an oath before Your altar in this house, ³² then listen in heaven and act and judge Your slaves, ^(B)condemning the wicked by ^[a]bringing his way on his own head and justifying the righteous by ^[b]bringing him reward according to his righteousness.

³³ “^(C)When Your people Israel are ^[c]defeated before an enemy, because they have sinned against You, ^(D)if they turn to You again and confess Your name and pray and make supplication to You in this house, ³⁴ then listen in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You gave to their fathers.

³⁵ “^(E)When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain, because they have sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and confess Your name and turn from their sin when You afflict them, ³⁶ then listen in heaven and forgive the sin of Your slaves and of Your people Israel; ^(F)indeed, teach them the good way in which they should walk. And ^(G)give rain on Your land, which You have given to Your people for an inheritance.

³⁷ “^(H)If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is scorching wind or mildew, locust or grasshopper, if their enemy besieges them in the land of their ^[d]cities, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is, ³⁸ whatever prayer or supplication is made by any man or by all Your people Israel, each of whom knows the ^[e]affliction of his own heart, and spreads his ^[f]hands toward this house; ³⁹ then listen in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive and act and give to each according to all his ways, ^(I)whose heart You know, for ^(J)You alone know the hearts of all the sons of men, ⁴⁰ that they may ^[g]fear You all the days that they live upon the face of the land which You have given to our fathers.

Jesus Casts Out an Unclean Demon

³¹ And ^(A)He came down to ^(B)Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and He was teaching them on the Sabbath; ³² and ^(C)they were amazed at His teaching, for ^(D)His ^[a]message was with authority. ³³ And in the synagogue there was a man ^[b]possessed by the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, ³⁴ “^[c]Let us alone! ^[d](E)What do we have to do with You, Jesus the ^(F)Nazarene? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—^(G)the Holy One of God!” ³⁵ But Jesus ^(H)rebuked it, saying, “Be quiet and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst of the people, it came out of him without doing him any harm. ³⁶ And amazement came upon them all, and they were talking with one another saying, “What is ^[e]this message? For ^(I)with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits and they come out.” ³⁷ And ^(J)the report about Him was spreading into every place in the surrounding district.
