Psalm 100

Be Thankful

A psalm of thanksgiving.

Shout triumphantly to the Lord, all the earth.(A)
Serve the Lord with gladness;
come before Him with joyful songs.(B)
Acknowledge that Yahweh is God.
He made us, and we are His[a](C)
His people, the sheep of His pasture.(D)
Enter His gates with thanksgiving(E)
and His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him and praise His name.(F)
For Yahweh is good, and His love is eternal;
His faithfulness endures through all generations.

Psalm 101

A Vow of Integrity

A Davidic psalm.

I will sing of faithful love and justice;
I will sing praise to You, Lord.(G)
I will pay attention to the way of integrity.
When will You come to me?
I will live with a heart of integrity in my house.(H)
I will not set anything worthless before my eyes.
I hate the practice of transgression;
it will not cling to me.(I)
A devious heart will be far from me;
I will not be involved with[b] evil.(J)

I will destroy anyone
who secretly slanders his neighbor;(K)
I cannot tolerate anyone
with haughty eyes or an arrogant heart.(L)
My eyes favor the faithful of the land
so that they may sit down with me.
The one who follows the way of integrity
may serve me.(M)
No one who acts deceitfully
will live in my palace;
no one who tells lies
will remain in my presence.[c](N)
Every morning I will destroy
all the wicked of the land,
eliminating all evildoers from the Lord’s city.(O)

Psalm 102

Affliction in Light of Eternity

A prayer of an afflicted person who is weak and pours out his lament before the Lord.(P)

Lord, hear my prayer;
let my cry for help come before You.(Q)
Do not hide Your face from me in my day of trouble.
Listen closely to me;
answer me quickly when I call.(R)

For my days vanish like smoke,
and my bones burn like a furnace.(S)
My heart is afflicted, withered like grass;(T)
I even forget to eat my food.(U)
Because of the sound of my groaning,
my flesh sticks to my bones.(V)
I am like a desert owl,[d]
like an owl among the ruins.(W)
I stay awake;(X)
I am like a solitary bird on a roof.
My enemies taunt me all day long;
they ridicule and curse me.(Y)
I eat ashes like bread
and mingle my drinks with tears(Z)
10 because of Your indignation and wrath;
for You have picked me up and thrown me aside.(AA)
11 My days are like a lengthening shadow,
and I wither away like grass.(AB)

12 But You, Lord, are enthroned forever;(AC)
Your fame endures to all generations.(AD)
13 You will rise up and have compassion on Zion,
for it is time to show favor to her—
the appointed time has come.(AE)
14 For Your servants take delight in its stones
and favor its dust.(AF)

15 Then the nations will fear the name of Yahweh,
and all the kings of the earth Your glory,(AG)
16 for the Lord will rebuild Zion;
He will appear in His glory.(AH)
17 He will pay attention to the prayer of the destitute
and will not despise their prayer.(AI)

18 This will be written for a later generation,
and a newly created people will praise the Lord:(AJ)
19 He looked down from His holy heights—
the Lord gazed out from heaven to earth(AK)
20 to hear a prisoner’s groaning,
to set free those condemned to die,[e](AL)
21 so that they might declare
the name of Yahweh in Zion
and His praise in Jerusalem,(AM)
22 when peoples and kingdoms are assembled
to serve the Lord.(AN)

23 He has broken my[f] strength in midcourse;
He has shortened my days.(AO)
24 I say: “My God, do not take me
in the middle of my life![g]
Your years continue through all generations.(AP)
25 Long ago You established the earth,
and the heavens are the work of Your hands.(AQ)
26 They will perish, but You will endure;
all of them will wear out like clothing.
You will change them like a garment,
and they will pass away.(AR)
27 But You are the same,
and Your years will never end.(AS)
28 Your servants’ children will dwell securely,
and their offspring will be established before You.”(AT)

1 Corinthians 1

Greeting

Paul,(A) called as an apostle(B) of Christ Jesus by God’s will,(C) and Sosthenes our brother:(D)

To God’s church at Corinth,(E) to those who are sanctified(F) in Christ Jesus and called(G) as saints, with all those in every place who call on the name(H) of Jesus Christ our Lord—both their Lord and ours.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father(I) and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving

I always thank(J) my God for you because of God’s grace given to you in Christ Jesus, that by Him you were enriched(K) in everything—in all speech and all knowledge.(L) In this way, the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you,(M) so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait(N) for the revelation(O) of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will also strengthen you to the end,(P) so that you will be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.(Q) God is faithful;(R) you were called by Him(S) into fellowship with His Son,(T) Jesus Christ our Lord.

Divisions at Corinth

10 Now I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction. 11 For it has been reported to me about you, my brothers, by members of Chloe’s household, that there is rivalry(U) among you. 12 What I am saying is this: Each of you says, “I’m with Paul,” or “I’m with Apollos,”(V) or “I’m with Cephas,”(W) or “I’m with Christ.”(X) 13 Is Christ divided?(Y) Was it Paul who was crucified for you? Or were you baptized in Paul’s name? 14 I thank God[a][b] that I baptized none of you except Crispus(Z) and Gaius,(AA) 15 so that no one can say you were baptized in my name. 16 I did, in fact, baptize the household(AB) of Stephanas;(AC) beyond that, I don’t know if I baptized anyone else. 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to evangelize—not with clever words, so that the cross(AD) of Christ will not be emptied of its effect.

Christ the Power and Wisdom of God

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is God’s power to us who are being saved.(AE) 19 For it is written:

I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and I will set aside the understanding of the experts.(AF)[c]

20 Where is the philosopher?[d] Where is the scholar? Where is the debater of this age?(AG) Hasn’t God made the world’s wisdom foolish? 21 For since, in God’s wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of the message preached. 22 For the Jews ask for signs(AH) and the Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified,(AI) a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles.[e] 24 Yet to those who are called,(AJ) both Jews and Greeks, Christ is God’s power and God’s wisdom, 25 because God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.

Boasting Only in the Lord

26 Brothers, consider your calling: Not many are wise from a human perspective,[f] not many powerful,(AK) not many of noble birth. 27 Instead, God has chosen(AL) what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. 28 God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world(AM)—what is viewed as nothing—to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, 29 so that no one[g] can boast in His presence.(AN) 30 But it is from Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became God-given wisdom for us—our righteousness,(AO) sanctification,(AP) and redemption,(AQ) 31 in order that, as it is written:(AR) The one who boasts must boast in the Lord.(AS)[h]
