Various Statutes
22 “(A)You shall not see your brother’s ox or his sheep straying away and [a]ignore them; you shall certainly bring them back to your brother. 2 And if your brother is not near you, or if you do not know him, then you shall bring it home to your house, and it shall be with you until your brother searches for it; then you shall give it back to him. 3 Thus you shall do with his donkey, and you shall do likewise with his garment, and you shall do likewise with anything lost by your brother, which he has lost and you have found. You are not allowed to [b]ignore them. 4 You shall not see your brother’s donkey or his ox fallen down on the way and [c]ignore them; you shall certainly help him to raise them up.
5 “A woman shall not wear man’s clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh your God.
6 “If you happen to come upon a bird’s nest along the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the mother sitting on the young or on the eggs, (B)you shall not take the mother with the young; 7 you shall certainly let the mother go, but the young you may take for yourself, (C)in order that it may be well with you and that you may prolong your days.
8 “When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet for your roof, so that you will not bring bloodguilt on your house if anyone falls from it.
9 “(D)You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, lest [d]all the produce of the seed which you have sown and the increase of the vineyard become defiled.

11 “(F)You shall not wear a material mixed of wool and flax together.
12 “(G)You shall make yourself tassels on the four corners of your garment with which you cover yourself.
Statutes About Sexual Immorality
13 “(H)If any man takes a wife and goes in to her and then [e]turns against her, 14 and charges her with shameful deeds and brings forth against her a bad name and says, ‘I took this woman, but when I came near her, I did not find her a virgin,’ 15 then the girl’s father and her mother shall take and bring out the evidence of the girl’s virginity to the elders of the city at the gate. 16 Then the girl’s father shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man as a wife, but he [f]turned against her; 17 and behold, he has charged her with shameful deeds, saying, “I did not find your daughter a virgin.” But [g]this is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity.’ And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city. 18 So (I)the elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him, 19 and they shall fine him [h]one hundred shekels of silver and give it to the girl’s father because he brought forth a bad name against a virgin of Israel. And she shall be his wife; he cannot [i]divorce her all his days.
20 “But if this [j](J)charge is true, that the girl was not found a virgin, 21 then they shall bring out the girl to the doorway of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her, and she will die because she has (K)committed a disgraceful act in Israel by playing the harlot in her father’s house; thus (L)you shall purge the evil from among you.
22 “(M)If a man is found lying with a married woman, then both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman; thus you shall purge the evil from Israel.
23 “(N)If there is a girl who is a virgin engaged to a man, and another man finds her in the city and lies with her, 24 then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them, and they will die; the girl, because she did not cry out in the city, and the man, because he has violated his neighbor’s wife. Thus you shall purge the evil from among you.
25 “But if in the field the man finds the girl who is engaged, and the man forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lies with her shall die. 26 But you shall do nothing to the girl; there is no sin in the girl worthy of death, for just as a man rises against his neighbor and murders him, so is this case. 27 When he found her in the field, the engaged girl cried out, but there was no one to save her.
28 “(O)If a man finds a girl who is a virgin, who is not engaged, and seizes her and lies with her and they are found, 29 then the man who lay with her shall give to the girl’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall become his wife because he has violated her; he cannot divorce her all his days.

7 “You shall not abhor an Edomite, for (X)he is your brother; you shall not abhor an Egyptian, (Y)for you were a sojourner in his land. 8 The sons of the third generation who are born to them may enter the assembly of Yahweh.

12 “You shall also have a place outside the camp and go out there, 13 and you shall have a [r]spade among your tools, and it shall be when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it and shall turn [s]to cover up your excrement. 14 Since (AA)Yahweh your God walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to give your enemies over to you, therefore your camp must be (AB)holy; and He must not see [t]anything indecent among you, [u]or He will turn away from you.
15 “(AC)You shall not hand over to his master a slave who has [v]escaped from his master to you. 16 He shall live with you in your midst, in the place which he shall choose in one of your gates of the towns where it pleases him; (AD)you shall not mistreat him.

19 “(AH)You shall not charge interest to your brother: interest on money, food, or anything that may be loaned at interest. 20 (AI)You may charge interest to a foreigner, but to your brother you shall not charge interest, so that (AJ)Yahweh your God may bless you in all [x]that you send forth your hand to do in the land which you are about to enter to [y]possess.
21 “(AK)When you make a vow to Yahweh your God, you shall not delay to pay it, for Yahweh your God will surely require it of you; and it will be a sin in you. 22 However, if you refrain from vowing, it will not be a sin in you. 23 You shall be careful and do what goes out from your lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to Yahweh your God that which you spoke with your mouth.
24 “When you enter your neighbor’s vineyard, then you may eat grapes [z]until you are fully satisfied, but you shall not put any in your [aa]basket.
25 “(AL)When you enter your neighbor’s standing grain, then you may pluck the heads with your hand, but you shall not wield a sickle in your neighbor’s standing grain.

24 “If a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens [ab]that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some (AM)indecency in her, and (AN)he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out from his house, 2 and she goes out of his house and goes and becomes another man’s wife, 3 and if the latter husband [ac]turns against her and writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies who took her to be his wife, 4 then her (AO)former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, since she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before Yahweh, and you shall not bring sin on the land which Yahweh your God gives you as an inheritance.
5 “(AP)When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go out with the army nor be charged with any duty; he shall be free at home one year and shall (AQ)give gladness to his wife whom he has taken.

7 “(AR)If a man is [ad]caught kidnapping any of his brothers of the sons of Israel, and he mistreats him or sells him, then that thief shall die; so you shall purge the evil from among you.
8 “(AS)Take care against [ae]an infection of leprosy, to be very careful and to do according to all that the Levitical priests instruct you; as I have commanded them, so you shall be careful to do. 9 Remember what Yahweh your God did (AT)to Miriam on the way as you came out of Egypt.
10 “(AU)When you make your neighbor a loan of any sort, you shall not enter his house to take his deposit. 11 You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you make the loan shall bring the deposit out to you. 12 Now if he is an afflicted man, you shall not sleep with his deposit. 13 (AV)When the sun goes down you shall surely return the deposit to him, that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and (AW)it will be righteousness for you before Yahweh your God.
14 “(AX)You shall not oppress a hired person who is afflicted and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of your sojourners who is in your land within your gates. 15 (AY)You shall give him his wages on his day [af]before the sun goes down, for he is afflicted and sets his soul on it, so that (AZ)he will not cry against you to Yahweh and it become sin in you.
16 “(BA)Fathers shall not be put to death [ag]for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death [ah]for their fathers; each shall be put to death for his own sin.
17 “(BB)You shall not pervert the justice [ai]due a sojourner or [aj]an orphan, nor (BC)take a widow’s garment in pledge. 18 But you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and that Yahweh your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.
19 “(BD)When you reap your harvest in your field and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be (BE)for the sojourner, for the [ak]orphan, and for the widow, in order that Yahweh your God (BF)may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20 (BG)When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs after you finish; it shall be (BH)for the sojourner, for the [al]orphan, and for the widow.
21 “When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it after you finish; it shall be for the sojourner, for the [am]orphan, and for the widow. 22 And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.
The Plot to Kill Jesus
14 (A)Now (B)the Passover and Unleavened Bread were two days away; and the chief priests and the scribes (C)were seeking how, after seizing Him in secret, they might kill Him; 2 for they were saying, “Not during the festival, lest there be a riot of the people.”
The Costly Perfume
3 (D)And while He was in (E)Bethany at the home of Simon the leper, and reclining at the table, there came a woman with an alabaster jar of perfume of very (F)costly pure [a]nard; and she broke the jar and poured it over His head. 4 But some were indignantly remarking to one another, “Why has this perfume been wasted? 5 For this perfume might have been sold for over three hundred [b]denarii and given to the poor.” And they were scolding her. 6 But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you bother her? She did a good work to Me. 7 For you always have (G)the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me. 8 She has done what she could; (H)she anointed My body beforehand for the burial. 9 And truly I say to you, (I)wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman did will also be spoken of in memory of her.”
10 (J)Then Judas Iscariot, (K)who was one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests in order to [c]betray Him to them. 11 And when they heard this, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he began seeking how to betray Him at an opportune time.
The Passover Meal
12 (L)And on the first day of (M)Unleavened Bread, when [d]the Passover lamb was being (N)sacrificed, His disciples *said to Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover?” 13 And He *sent two of His disciples and *said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him; 14 and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is My (O)guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 15 And he himself will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; prepare for us there.” 16 And the disciples went out and came to the city, and found it just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
17 (P)And when it was evening He *came with the twelve. 18 And as they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you that one of you will [e]betray Me—the one who is eating with Me.” 19 They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, “Surely not I?” 20 And He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, the one who dips with Me in the bowl. 21 For the Son of Man is to go just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man [f]by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good [g]for that man if he had not been born.”
The Lord’s Supper
22 (Q)And while they were eating, He took some bread, and [h]after a (R)blessing, He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.” 23 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 And He said to them, “This is My (S)blood of the (T)covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly I say to you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
26 (U)And after singing a hymn, they went out to (V)the Mount of Olives.
