Version
2 Corinthians 7-9

Therefore, having these promises, (A)beloved, (B)let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Godly Sorrow Produces Repentance

(C)Make room for us in your hearts. We wronged no one, we corrupted no one, we took advantage of no one. I do not speak to condemn you, for I have said (D)before that you are (E)in our hearts to die together and to live together. Great is my (F)boldness toward you; great is my (G)boasting on your behalf. I have been filled with (H)comfort; I am overflowing with (I)joy in all our affliction.

For even when we came into (J)Macedonia our flesh had no rest, but we were (K)afflicted on every side—(L)conflicts without, fears within. But (M)God, who comforts the humbled, (N)comforted us by the coming of (O)Titus; and not only by his coming, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you, as he reported to us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more. For though I (P)caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it, though I did regret it—for I see that that letter caused you sorrow, though only for a while— I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to repentance. For you were made to have [a]godly sorrow, so that you might not suffer loss in anything [b]through us. 10 For [c]godly sorrow produces a (Q)repentance [d]without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world brings about death. 11 For behold what earnestness this very thing—this [e]godly sorrow—has brought about in you: what vindication of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what (R)longing, what zeal, what (S)avenging of wrong! In everything you (T)demonstrated yourselves to be innocent in the matter. 12 So although (U)I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of (V)the offender nor for the sake of the one offended, but that your earnestness on our behalf might be manifested to you in the sight of God. 13 For this reason we have been (W)comforted.

And besides our comfort, we rejoiced even much more for the joy of (X)Titus, because his (Y)spirit has been refreshed by you all. 14 For if in anything I have (Z)boasted to him about you, I was not put to shame, but as we spoke all things to you in truth, so also our boasting before (AA)Titus proved to be the truth. 15 And his [f]affection abounds all the more toward you, as he remembers the (AB)obedience of you all, how you received him with (AC)fear and trembling. 16 I rejoice that in everything (AD)I am encouraged about you.

Generosity and Grace

Now brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been (AE)given in the churches of (AF)Macedonia, that in a great testing by affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the (AG)richness of their [g]generosity. For I testify that (AH)according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord, begging us with much urging for the (AI)grace [h]of sharing in the (AJ)ministry to the saints, and this, not as we had [i]expected, but they first (AK)gave themselves to the Lord and to us by (AL)the will of God. So we (AM)encouraged (AN)Titus that as he had previously (AO)made a beginning, so he would also complete in you (AP)this gracious work as well.

But just as you (AQ)abound (AR)in everything, in faith and word and knowledge and in all earnestness and in [j]the love we inspired in you, see that you (AS)abound in this gracious work also. I (AT)am not speaking this as a command, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity of your love also. For you know (AU)the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that (AV)though being rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich. 10 And I (AW)give my opinion in this matter, for this is profitable for you, who were the first to begin (AX)a year ago not only to do this, but also to desire to do it. 11 But now complete [k]doing it also, so that just as there was the (AY)readiness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it from what you have. 12 For if the readiness is present, it is acceptable (AZ)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. 13 For this is not for the relief of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality— 14 at this present time your abundance being a supply for (BA)their need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for (BB)your need, that there may be equality. 15 As it is written, “(BC)He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little had no lack.”

16 But [l](BD)thanks be to God who (BE)puts the same earnestness on your behalf in the heart of (BF)Titus. 17 For he not only accepted our (BG)plea, but being himself very earnest, he has gone out to you of his own accord. 18 And we have sent along with him (BH)the brother whose praise in the things of the (BI)gospel is throughout (BJ)all the churches. 19 (BK)And not only this, but he has also been (BL)appointed by the churches to travel with us in (BM)this gracious work that is being ministered by us for the glory of the Lord Himself, and to show our (BN)readiness, 20 [m]taking precaution lest anyone discredits us in our ministering of this generous gift, 21 for we (BO)respect what is good, not only in (BP)the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have often tested and found earnest in many things, but now even more earnest because of his great confidence in you. 23 As for (BQ)Titus, he is my (BR)partner and fellow worker [n]among you; as for our (BS)brothers, they are [o](BT)messengers of the churches, (BU)a glory to Christ. 24 Therefore [p]openly before the churches, [q]show them the proof of your love and of our (BV)reason for boasting about you.

God Loves a Cheerful Giver

For (BW)it is superfluous for me to write to you about this (BX)ministry to the [r]saints; for I know your readiness, of which I (BY)boast about you to the (BZ)Macedonians, that (CA)Achaia has been prepared since (CB)last year, and your zeal stirred up most of them. But I have sent the brothers, in order that our (CC)boasting about you may not be made empty in this case, so that, (CD)as I was saying, you may be prepared; lest if any (CE)Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we—not to speak of you—be put to shame in this certainty of ours. So I regarded it necessary to encourage the (CF)brothers that they would go on ahead to you and arrange beforehand your previously promised (CG)blessing, so that the same would be ready as a (CH)blessing and not as a [s](CI)begrudging obligation.

Now this I say, (CJ)he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows with blessing will also reap with blessing. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not (CK)grudgingly or under compulsion, for (CL)God loves a cheerful giver. And (CM)God is able to make every grace abound to you, so that in everything at every time having every sufficiency, you may have an abundance for every good deed; as it is written,

(CN)He scattered abroad, he gave to the needy,
His righteousness [t]stands forever.”

10 Now He who supplies (CO)seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and (CP)increase the harvest of your righteousness; 11 you will be (CQ)enriched in everything for all generosity, which through us is bringing about (CR)thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying (CS)the needs of the [u]saints, but is also abounding (CT)through many thanksgivings to God. 13 Because of the proven character given by this (CU)ministry, they will (CV)glorify God for your obedience to your (CW)confession of the (CX)gospel of Christ and for the [v]generosity of your [w]fellowship toward them and toward all, 14 while they also, by prayer on your behalf, long for you because of the surpassing grace of God on you. 15 [x](CY)Thanks be to God for His indescribable (CZ)gift!
