God’s Promise and Warning

(A)Now it came about when Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord, and (B)the king’s house, and (C)all [a]that Solomon desired to do, that (D)the Lord appeared to Solomon a second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon. The Lord said to him, “(E)I have heard your prayer and your supplication, which you have made before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built (F)by putting My name there forever, and (G)My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. As for you, (H)if you will walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you and will keep My statutes and My ordinances, then (I)I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I [b]promised to your father David, saying, ‘[c]You shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’

(J)But if you or your sons indeed turn away from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, (K)then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them, and (L)the house which I have consecrated for My name, I will [d]cast out of My sight. So (M)Israel will become a proverb and a byword among all peoples. And this house will become [e](N)a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by will be astonished and hiss and say, ‘(O)Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’ And they will say, ‘(P)Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and adopted other gods and worshiped them and served them, therefore the Lord has brought all this adversity on them.’”

Cities Given to Hiram

10 (Q)It came about (R)at the end of twenty years in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the Lord and the king’s house 11 (Hiram king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar and cypress timber and gold according to all his desire), then King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee. 12 So Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, and they [f]did not please him. 13 He said, “What are these cities which you have given me, my brother?” So [g]they were called the land of [h](S)Cabul to this day. 14 (T)And Hiram sent to the king 120 talents of gold.

15 Now this is the account of the forced labor which King Solomon (U)levied to build the house of the Lord, his own house, the [i](V)Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, (W)Hazor, (X)Megiddo, and (Y)Gezer. 16 For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the (Z)Canaanites who lived in the city, and had (AA)given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife. 17 So Solomon rebuilt Gezer and the lower (AB)Beth-horon 18 and (AC)Baalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah, 19 and all the storage cities which Solomon had, even (AD)the cities for [j]his chariots and the cities for [k](AE)his horsemen, and [l](AF)all that it pleased Solomon to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land [m]under his rule. 20 As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel, 21 (AG)their descendants who were left after them in the land (AH)whom the sons of Israel were unable to destroy utterly, (AI)from them Solomon levied (AJ)forced laborers, even to this day. 22 But Solomon (AK)did not make slaves of the sons of Israel; for they were men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, his chariot commanders, and his horsemen.

23 These were the [n](AL)chief officers who were over Solomon’s work, five hundred and fifty, (AM)who ruled over the people doing the work.

24 As soon as (AN)Pharaoh’s daughter came up from the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her, (AO)then he built the Millo.

25 Now (AP)three times in a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to the Lord, burning incense with them on the altar which was before the Lord. So he finished the house.

26 King Solomon also built a (AQ)fleet of ships in (AR)Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the [o]Red Sea, in the land of Edom. 27 (AS)And Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, sailors who knew the sea, along with the servants of Solomon. 28 They went to (AT)Ophir and took four hundred and twenty talents of gold from there, and brought it to King Solomon.

Ephesians 6

Family Relationships

(A)Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. (B)Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.

(C)Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but (D)bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

(E)Slaves, be obedient to those who are your [a]masters according to the flesh, with (F)fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, (G)as to Christ; (H)not [b]by way of eyeservice, as (I)men-pleasers, but as (J)slaves of Christ, (K)doing the will of God from the [c]heart. With good will [d]render service, (L)as to the Lord, and not to men, (M)knowing that (N)whatever good thing each one does, this he will receive back from the Lord, (O)whether slave or free.

And masters, do the same things to them, and (P)give up threatening, knowing that (Q)both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is (R)no partiality with Him.

The Armor of God

10 Finally, (S)be strong in the Lord and in (T)the strength of His might. 11 (U)Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the (V)schemes of the devil. 12 For our (W)struggle is not against [e](X)flesh and blood, but (Y)against the rulers, against the powers, against the (Z)world forces of this (AA)darkness, against the (AB)spiritual forces of wickedness in (AC)the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up (AD)the full armor of God, so that you will be able to (AE)resist in (AF)the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, (AG)having girded your loins with truth, and having (AH)put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having (AI)shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 [f]in addition to all, taking up the (AJ)shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the (AK)flaming arrows of (AL)the evil one. 17 And take (AM)the helmet of salvation, and the (AN)sword of the Spirit, which is (AO)the word of God.

18 [g]With all (AP)prayer and petition [h](AQ)pray at all times (AR)in the Spirit, and with this in view, [i](AS)be on the alert with all (AT)perseverance and (AU)petition for all the saints, 19 and (AV)pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me (AW)in the opening of my mouth, to make known with (AX)boldness (AY)the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an (AZ)ambassador (BA)in [j]chains; that [k]in proclaiming it I may speak (BB)boldly, (BC)as I ought to speak.

21 (BD)But that you also may know about my circumstances, [l]how I am doing, (BE)Tychicus, (BF)the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make everything known to you. 22 [m](BG)I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know [n]about us, and that he may (BH)comfort your hearts.

23 (BI)Peace be to the brethren, and (BJ)love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ [o]with incorruptible love.

Ezekiel 39

Prophecy against Gog—Invaders Destroyed

39 “And (A)you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, ‘Thus says the Lord [a]God, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, [b]prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal; and I will turn you around, drive you on, take you up from the remotest parts of the north and bring you against the mountains of Israel. I will (B)strike your bow from your left hand and dash down your arrows from your right hand. You will (C)fall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you as (D)food to every [c]kind of predatory bird and beast of the field. You will fall on the [d]open field; for it is I who have spoken,” declares the Lord God. “And I will send (E)fire upon Magog and those who inhabit the (F)coastlands in safety; and they will know that I am the Lord.

“My (G)holy name I will make known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not let My holy name be (H)profaned anymore. And the (I)nations will know that I am the Lord, the (J)Holy One in Israel. Behold, it is coming and it shall be done,” declares the Lord God. “That is the day of which I have spoken.

“Then those who inhabit the cities of Israel will (K)go out and make (L)fires with the weapons and burn them, both shields and bucklers, bows and arrows, war clubs and spears, and for seven years they will make fires of them. 10 They will not take wood from the field or gather firewood from the forests, for they will make fires with the weapons; and they will take the spoil of those who despoiled them and seize the (M)plunder of those who plundered them,” declares the Lord God.

11 “On that day I will give Gog a burial ground there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea, and it will block off those who would pass by. So they will bury Gog there with all his [e]horde, and they will call it the valley of [f]Hamon-gog. 12 For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to (N)cleanse the land. 13 Even all the people of the land will bury them; and it will be [g]to their (O)renown on the day that I (P)glorify Myself,” declares the Lord God. 14 “They will set apart men who will constantly pass through the land, (Q)burying those who were passing through, even those left on the surface of the ground, in order to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will make a search. 15 As those who pass through the land pass through and anyone sees a man’s bone, then he will [h]set up a marker by it until the buriers have buried it in the valley of [i]Hamon-gog. 16 And even the name of the city will be Hamonah. So they will cleanse the land.”’

17 “As for you, son of man, thus says the Lord God, ‘Speak to every [j]kind of (R)bird and to every (S)beast of the field, “Assemble and come, gather from every side to My sacrifice which I am going to (T)sacrifice for you, as a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh and drink blood. 18 You will (U)eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, as though they were (V)rams, lambs, goats and (W)bulls, all of them fatlings of (X)Bashan. 19 So you will eat fat until you are glutted, and drink blood until you are drunk, from My sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. 20 You will be glutted at My table with (Y)horses and charioteers, with mighty men and all the men of war,” declares the Lord God.

21 “And I will set My (Z)glory among the nations; and all the nations will see My judgment which I have executed and My hand which I have laid on them. 22 And the house of Israel will (AA)know that I am the Lord their God from that day onward. 23 The nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their (AB)iniquity because they acted treacherously against Me, and I (AC)hid My face from them; so I gave them into the hand of their adversaries, and all of them fell by the sword. 24 (AD)According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions I dealt with them, and I hid My face from them.”’”

Israel Restored

25 Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Now I will [k](AE)restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole (AF)house of Israel; and I will be (AG)jealous for My holy name. 26 They will [l](AH)forget their disgrace and all their treachery which they [m]perpetrated against Me, when they (AI)live securely on their own land with (AJ)no one to make them afraid. 27 When I (AK)bring them back from the peoples and gather them from the lands of their enemies, then I shall be (AL)sanctified [n]through them in the sight of the many nations. 28 Then they will know that I am the Lord their God because I made them go into exile among the nations, and then gathered them again to their own land; and I will leave none of them there any longer. 29 I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I will have (AM)poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,” declares the Lord God.

Psalm 90

BOOK 4

God’s Eternity and Man’s Transitoriness.

A Prayer of [a]Moses, the man of God.

90 Lord, You have been our [b](A)dwelling place in all generations.
Before (B)the mountains were born
[c]Or You (C)gave birth to the earth and the world,
Even (D)from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

You (E)turn man back into dust
And say, “Return, O children of men.”
For (F)a thousand years in Your sight
Are like (G)yesterday when it passes by,
[d]Or as a (H)watch in the night.
You (I)have [e]swept them away like a flood, they [f](J)fall asleep;
In the morning they are like (K)grass which [g]sprouts anew.
In the morning it (L)flourishes and [h]sprouts anew;
Toward evening it (M)fades and (N)withers away.

For we have been (O)consumed by Your anger
And by Your wrath we have been [i]dismayed.
You have (P)placed our iniquities before You,
Our (Q)secret sins in the light of Your presence.
For (R)all our days have declined in Your fury;
We have finished our years like a [j]sigh.
10 As for the days of our [k]life, [l]they contain seventy years,
Or if due to strength, (S)eighty years,
Yet their pride is but (T)labor and sorrow;
For soon it is gone and we (U)fly away.
11 Who [m]understands the (V)power of Your anger
And Your fury, according to the (W)fear [n]that is due You?
12 So (X)teach us to number our days,
That we may [o](Y)present to You a heart of wisdom.

13 Do (Z)return, O Lord; (AA)how long will it be?
And [p]be (AB)sorry for Your servants.
14 O (AC)satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness,
That we may (AD)sing for joy and be glad all our days.
15 (AE)Make us glad [q]according to the days You have afflicted us,
And the (AF)years we have seen [r]evil.
16 Let Your (AG)work appear to Your servants
And Your (AH)majesty [s]to their children.
17 Let the (AI)favor of the Lord our God be upon us;
And [t](AJ)confirm for us the work of our hands;
Yes, [u]confirm the work of our hands.
