M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
David Saves Keilah
23 Then they told David, saying, “Behold, the Philistines are fighting against (A)Keilah and are pillaging the threshing floors.” 2 So David (B)asked of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I go and strike these Philistines?” And Yahweh said to David, “Go and strike the Philistines and save Keilah.” 3 But David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the battle lines of the Philistines?” 4 Then David asked of Yahweh once more. And Yahweh answered him and said, “Arise, go down to Keilah, for (C)I will give the Philistines into your hand.” 5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines; and he led away their livestock and struck them with a great slaughter. Thus David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
6 Now it happened when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech (D)fled to David at Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand. 7 Then it was told to Saul that David had come to Keilah, so Saul said, “God has [a]delivered him into my hand, for he shut himself in by entering a city with double gates and bars.” 8 Then Saul summoned all the people for battle, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men. 9 But David knew that Saul was plotting evil against him; so he said to (E)Abiathar the priest, “(F)Bring the ephod here.” 10 Then David said, “O Yahweh, the God of Israel, Your slave has heard for certain that Saul is seeking to come to Keilah to make the city a ruin on my account. 11 Will the men of Keilah surrender me into his hand? Will Saul come down just as Your slave has heard? O Yahweh, the God of Israel, I pray, tell Your slave.” And Yahweh said, “He will come down.” 12 Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah surrender me and my men into the hand of Saul?” And Yahweh said, “(G)They will surrender you.” 13 Then David and his men, (H)about six hundred, arose and departed from Keilah, and they went (I)wherever they could go. Now it was told to Saul that David had escaped from Keilah, so he ceased going out in pursuit. 14 And David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of (J)Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but (K)God did not give him into his hand.
Saul Pursues David
15 Then David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. Now David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh. 16 So Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David at Horesh and (L)strengthened his hand in God. 17 And he said to him, “(M)Do not be afraid, because the hand of Saul my father will not find you, and you will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you; and (N)Saul my father knows that also.” 18 So (O)the two of them cut a covenant before Yahweh; and David stayed at Horesh while Jonathan went to his house.
19 Then (P)Ziphites came up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, “Is David not hiding with us in the strongholds at Horesh, on (Q)the hill of Hachilah, which is on the [b]south of [c]Jeshimon? 20 So now, O king, according to all the desire of your soul to come down, come down here; and (R)our part shall be to surrender him into the king’s hand.” 21 And Saul said, “May you be blessed of Yahweh, (S)for you have had compassion on me. 22 Go now, make more sure, and know and see his place—where his very foot is—and who has seen him there; for I am told that he is very crafty. 23 So see and know about all the hiding places where he hides himself and return to me with certainty, and I will go with you; and if he is in the land, I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.”
24 Then they arose and went to Ziph before Saul. Now David and his men were in the wilderness of (T)Maon, in the Arabah to the [d]south of [e]Jeshimon. 25 So Saul and his men went to seek him, and they told David, and he came down to the rock and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. And Saul heard it and pursued David in the wilderness of Maon. 26 And Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain; and David was hurrying to get away from Saul, but Saul and his men (U)were surrounding David and his men to seize them. 27 But a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, for the Philistines have made a raid on the land.” 28 So Saul returned from pursuing David and went to meet the Philistines; therefore they called that place [f]the Rock of Escape. 29 [g]Then David went up from there and stayed in the strongholds of (V)Engedi.
Servants of Christ
4 Let a man consider us in this manner, as (A)servants of Christ and (B)stewards of (C)the mysteries of God. 2 In this case, moreover, it is required [a]of stewards that one be found faithful. 3 But to me it is a very small thing that I may be examined by you, or by any human [b]court. In fact, I do not even examine myself. 4 For I (D)am conscious of nothing against myself, yet I am not by this (E)acquitted. But the one who examines me is the Lord. 5 Therefore (F)do not go on [c]passing judgment before [d]the time, but wait (G)until the Lord comes who will both (H)bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and make manifest the motives of hearts. And then each one’s (I)praise will come to him from God.
6 Now these things, brothers, I have applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to go beyond (J)what is written, so that no one of you will (K)become puffed up (L)on behalf of one against the other. 7 For who regards you as superior? (M)What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
8 You are (N)already filled, you have already become rich, you have ruled without us—and how I wish that you had ruled indeed so that we also might rule with you. 9 For, I think that God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men (O)condemned to death, because we (P)have become a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. 10 We are (Q)fools for the sake of Christ, but (R)you are prudent in Christ! (S)We are weak, but you are strong! You are glorious, but we are without honor! 11 To this present hour we (T)hunger and thirst, and are poorly clothed, and roughly treated, and homeless; 12 and we labor, (U)working with our own hands; when we are (V)reviled, we bless; when we are (W)persecuted, we endure; 13 when we are slandered, we try to plead; we have (X)become as the scum of the world, the grime of all things, even until now.
14 I do not write these things to (Y)shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved (Z)children. 15 For if you were to have countless (AA)tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in (AB)Christ Jesus I (AC)became your father through the (AD)gospel. 16 Therefore I exhort you, be (AE)imitators of me. 17 For this reason I (AF)have sent to you (AG)Timothy, who is my (AH)beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and who will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, (AI)just as I teach everywhere in every church. 18 Now some have become (AJ)puffed up, as though I were not (AK)coming to you. 19 But I (AL)will come to you soon, (AM)if the Lord wills, and I shall know, not the [e]words of those who are (AN)puffed up but their power. 20 For the kingdom of God does (AO)not consist in [f]words but in power. 21 What do you desire? (AP)Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a spirit of gentleness?
The Sending of Ezekiel
2 Then He said to me, “Son of man, (A)stand on your feet that I may speak with you!” 2 And as He spoke to me, the (B)Spirit entered me and caused me to stand on my feet; and I heard Him speaking to me. 3 Then He said to me, “Son of man, I am sending you to the sons of Israel, to a rebellious people who have (C)rebelled against Me; (D)they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day. 4 I am sending you to them who are [a](E)stiff-[b]faced and strong-hearted children, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh.’ 5 As for them, (F)whether they listen or whether they refuse—for they are a rebellious house—they will (G)know that a prophet has been among them. 6 Now as for you, son of man, (H)do not fear them and do not fear their words, though (I)thistles and briers are with you and you sit on scorpions; neither fear their words nor be dismayed at their presence, for they are a rebellious house. 7 But you shall (J)speak My words to them (K)whether they listen or whether they refuse, for they are rebellious.
8 “Now as for you, son of man, listen to what I am speaking to you; do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth and (L)eat what I am giving you.” 9 Then I looked, and behold, a (M)hand was sent forth to me; and behold, a [c](N)scroll was in it. 10 Then He spread it out before me, and it was written on the front and back, and written on it were lamentations, sighing, and (O)woe.
Do Not Forsake Me, O Yahweh
A Psalm of David. To bring to remembrance.
38 O Yahweh, (A)reprove me not in Your wrath,
And discipline me not in Your burning anger.
2 For Your (B)arrows have pressed deep into me,
And (C)Your hand has pressed down upon me.
3 There is (D)no soundness in my flesh (E)because of Your indignation;
There is no health (F)in my bones because of my sin.
4 For my (G)iniquities go over my head;
As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.
5 My [a]wounds stink and rot
Because of (H)my [b]folly.
6 I am bent over and (I)greatly bowed down;
I (J)go mourning all day long.
7 For my loins are filled with (K)burning,
And there is (L)no soundness in my flesh.
8 I am (M)faint and [c]badly crushed;
I [d](N)groan because of the [e]agitation of my heart.
9 Lord, all (O)my desire is [f]before You;
And my (P)sighing is not hidden from You.
10 My heart throbs, (Q)my strength forsakes me;
And the (R)light of my eyes, even [g]that [h]has gone from me.
11 My [i](S)loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague;
And my kinsmen (T)stand afar off.
12 Those who (U)search for my life (V)lay snares for me;
And those who (W)seek [j]to do me evil have [k]threatened destruction,
And they (X)meditate on deception all day long.
13 But I, like a deaf man, do not hear;
And I am like a (Y)mute man who does not open his mouth.
14 And I am like a man who does not hear,
And in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15 For (Z)I [l]wait on You, O Yahweh;
You (AA)will answer, O Lord my God.
16 For I said, “Save, lest they be glad over me,
Who, when my foot stumbles, (AB)magnify themselves against me.”
17 For I am (AC)ready to fall,
And (AD)my [m]sorrow is continually before me.
18 For I [n](AE)confess my iniquity;
I am full of (AF)anxiety because of my sin.
19 But my (AG)enemies are vigorous and [o]strong,
And those who wrongfully (AH)hate me abound.
20 And those who (AI)repay evil for good,
They (AJ)accuse me, for I pursue what is good.
21 Do not forsake me, O Yahweh;
O my God, (AK)do not be far from me!
22 Make (AL)haste to help me,
O Lord, (AM)my salvation!
