M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
Stone Tablets like the Former Ones
34 Now Yahweh said to Moses, “Carve out for yourself (A)two stone tablets like the former ones, and (B)I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered. 2 So be prepared by morning, and come up in the morning to (C)Mount Sinai, and [a]present yourself there to Me on the top of the mountain. 3 (D)And no man is to come up with you, nor let any man be seen [b]anywhere on the mountain; even the flocks and the herds may not graze in front of that mountain.” 4 So he carved out (E)two stone tablets like the former ones, and Moses rose up early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai, as Yahweh had commanded him, and he took two stone tablets in his hand. 5 (F)Then Yahweh descended in the cloud and stood there with him, and [c]He called upon the name of Yahweh. 6 Then Yahweh passed by in front of him and called out, “Yahweh, Yahweh God, (G)compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and [d]truth; 7 who (H)keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin; yet He (I)will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, (J)visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.” 8 And Moses made haste [e](K)to bow low toward the earth and worship. 9 And he said, “(L)If now I have found favor in Your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go along in our midst, even though [f](M)they are a stiff-necked people, and (N)pardon our iniquity and our sin, and (O)take us as Your own inheritance.”
Yahweh Cuts a Covenant with Israel
10 Then [g]God said, “Behold, (P)I am going to cut a covenant. Before all your people (Q)I will do wondrous deeds which have not been created in all the earth nor among any of the nations; and all the people [h]among whom you live will see the working of Yahweh, for it is a fearful thing that I am going to do with you.
11 “[i]Be sure to keep what I am commanding you this day: behold, (R)I am going to drive out the Amorite before you, and the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 12 (S)Beware lest you cut a covenant with the inhabitants of the land into which you are going, lest it become a snare in your midst. 13 (T)But rather, you are to tear down their altars and shatter their sacred pillars and cut down their [j](U)Asherim 14 —for (V)you shall not worship any other god, for Yahweh, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God— 15 lest you cut a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they play the harlot with their gods and (W)sacrifice to their gods, and one of them (X)invite you [k]to eat of his sacrifice, 16 and (Y)you take some of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters play the harlot with their gods and cause your sons also to play the harlot with their gods. 17 (Z)You shall make for yourself no molten gods.
18 “You shall keep (AA)the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For (AB)seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, which I commanded you, at the appointed time in the (AC)month of Abib, for in the month of Abib you came out of Egypt.
19 “(AD)The first offspring from every womb belongs to Me, even of all your male livestock, the first offspring from [l]cattle and sheep. 20 (AE)And you shall redeem with a lamb the [m]first offspring from a donkey; and if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. You shall redeem (AF)all the firstborn of your sons. [n](AG)None shall appear before Me empty-handed.
21 “You shall work (AH)six days, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during plowing time and harvest you shall rest. 22 And you shall celebrate (AI)the Feast of Weeks, that is, the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year. 23 (AJ)Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord Yahweh, the God of Israel. 24 For I will (AK)dispossess nations before you and enlarge your borders, and no man shall covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before Yahweh your God.
25 “(AL)You shall not [o]offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread, (AM)and the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover shall not [p]be left over until morning.
26 “You shall bring (AN)the very first of the first fruits of your ground into the house of Yahweh your God.
“You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
27 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “(AO)Write [q]down these words, for in accordance with these words I have cut (AP)a covenant with you and with Israel.” 28 So he was there with Yahweh (AQ)forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And [r](AR)he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, (AS)the Ten [s]Commandments.
The Shining Face of Moses
29 Now it happened when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the (AT)two tablets of the testimony were in Moses’ hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that (AU)the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him. 30 Then Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and (AV)they were afraid to come near him. 31 Then Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers in the congregation returned to him; and Moses spoke to them. 32 And afterward all the sons of Israel came near, and he commanded them everything that Yahweh had spoken [t]to him on Mount Sinai. 33 Then Moses finished speaking with them and (AW)put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever Moses went in before Yahweh to speak with Him, (AX)he would take off the veil until he came out; and then he would come out and speak to the sons of Israel what he had been commanded, 35 (AY)and the sons of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone. So Moses would return the veil over his face until he went in to speak with Him.
The Lord’s Supper
13 Now before the Feast of (A)the Passover, Jesus knowing that (B)His hour had come that He would depart out of this world (C)to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them [a]to the end. 2 And during supper, (D)the devil having already put into the heart of (E)Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, (F)knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that (G)He had come forth from God and was going back to God, 4 *got up from supper, and *laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He (H)tied it around Himself.
Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet
5 Then He *poured water into the washbasin, and began to (I)wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel which He had tied around Himself. 6 So He *came to Simon Peter. He *said to Him, “Lord, are You going to wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not realize now, but you will understand (J)afterwards.” 8 Peter *said to Him, “You will never wash my feet—ever!” Jesus answered him, “(K)If I do not wash you, (L)you have no part with Me.” 9 Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.” 10 Jesus *said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and (M)you are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For (N)He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, “Not all of you are clean.”
12 So when He had washed their feet, and (O)taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me (P)Teacher and (Q)Lord; and [b]you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, (R)the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I gave you (S)an example that you also should do as I did to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, (T)a slave is not greater than his master, nor is (U)one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you are (V)blessed if you do them. 18 (W)I do not speak about all of you. I know the ones I have (X)chosen; but (Y)that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘(Z)He who eats My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.’ 19 From now on (AA)I am telling you before it occurs, so that when it does occur, you may believe that (AB)I am He. 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, (AC)he who receives anyone I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
Jesus Predicts His Betrayal
21 When Jesus had said these things, He (AD)became troubled in spirit, and bore witness and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, that (AE)one of you will [c]betray Me.” 22 The disciples began looking at one another, (AF)perplexed about whom He *spoke. 23 There was reclining on (AG)Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, (AH)whom Jesus loved. 24 So Simon Peter *gestured to him to inquire, “Who is the one of whom He is speaking?” 25 He, (AI)leaning back thus on Jesus’ bosom, *said to Him, “Lord, who is it?” 26 Jesus *answered, “He is the one for whom I shall dip the piece of bread and give it to him.” So when He had dipped the piece of bread, He *took and *gave it to Judas, (AJ)the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 And after the piece of bread, (AK)Satan then (AL)entered into him. Therefore Jesus *said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” 28 Now no one of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him. 29 For some were thinking, because Judas (AM)had the money box, that Jesus was saying to him, “Buy the things we have need of (AN)for the feast”; or else, that he should (AO)give something to the poor. 30 So after receiving the piece of bread, he went out immediately. And (AP)it was night.
31 Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus *said, “Now [d]is (AQ)the Son of Man (AR)glorified, and (AS)God [e]is glorified in Him; 32 [f]if God is glorified in Him, (AT)God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately. 33 (AU)Little children, I am with you (AV)a little while longer. (AW)You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ 34 A (AX)new commandment I give to you, (AY)that you love one another, (AZ)even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 (BA)By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
36 Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “(BB)Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but (BC)you will follow later.” 37 Peter *said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You right now? (BD)I will lay down my life for You.” 38 Jesus *answered, “Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly, I say to you, (BE)a rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times.
Contrast of the Righteous and the Wicked
10 The (A)proverbs of Solomon.
(B)A wise son makes a father glad,
But (C)a foolish son is a grief to his mother.
2 (D)Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit,
But righteousness delivers from death.
3 Yahweh (E)will not allow the soul of the righteous to hunger,
But He (F)will push away the craving of the wicked.
4 Poor is he who works with a slack [a]hand,
But the (G)hand of the diligent makes rich.
5 He who gathers in summer is a son who acts insightfully,
But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.
6 (H)Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
But (I)the mouth of the wicked covers up violence.
7 The (J)remembrance of the righteous is blessed,
But (K)the name of the wicked will rot.
8 The (L)wise of heart will receive commandments,
But an ignorant fool of loose lips will be [b]ruined.
9 He (M)who walks in integrity walks securely,
But (N)he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.
10 He (O)who winks the eye causes pain,
And (P)an ignorant fool of loose lips will be [c]ruined.
11 The (Q)mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
But (R)the mouth of the wicked covers up violence.
12 Hatred stirs up strife,
But (S)love covers all transgressions.
13 On (T)the lips of the one who has understanding, wisdom is found,
But (U)a rod is for the back of him who lacks a heart of wisdom.
14 Wise men (V)store up knowledge,
But (W)the mouth of the ignorant fool draws ruin near.
15 The (X)rich man’s wealth is his strong city,
The (Y)ruin of the poor is their poverty.
16 The [d](Z)wages of the righteous is life,
The income of the wicked, punishment.
17 He (AA)is on the path of life who keeps discipline,
But he who forsakes reproof makes [e]himself wander about.
18 He (AB)who covers up hatred has lying lips,
And he who spreads a bad report is a fool.
19 When there are (AC)many words, transgression is unavoidable,
But (AD)he who holds back his lips has insight.
20 The tongue of the righteous is as (AE)choice silver,
The heart of the wicked is worth little.
21 The (AF)lips of the righteous feed many,
But ignorant fools (AG)die for lack of a heart of wisdom.
22 It is the (AH)blessing of Yahweh that makes rich,
And He adds no pain with it.
23 Doing wickedness is like (AI)laughing to a fool,
And so is wisdom to a man of discernment.
24 What (AJ)the wicked dreads will come upon him,
But the (AK)desire of the righteous will be granted.
25 When the (AL)whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more,
But the (AM)righteous has an everlasting foundation.
26 Like vinegar to the teeth and like smoke to the eyes,
So is the (AN)sluggard to those who send him.
27 The (AO)fear of Yahweh prolongs [f]life,
But the (AP)years of the wicked will be shortened.
28 The (AQ)expectation of the righteous is gladness,
But the (AR)hope of the wicked will perish.
29 The (AS)way of Yahweh is a stronghold to the one with integrity,
But (AT)ruin to the workers of iniquity.
30 The (AU)righteous will never be shaken,
But (AV)the wicked will not dwell in the land.
31 The (AW)mouth of the righteous bears wisdom,
But the tongue of (AX)perversions will be cut out.
32 The lips of the righteous know (AY)what is acceptable,
But the (AZ)mouth of the wicked [g]what is perverse.
The Mystery of Christ Revealed
3 For this reason I, Paul, (A)the prisoner of (B)Christ Jesus (C)on behalf of you (D)Gentiles— 2 if indeed you heard of the (E)stewardship of God’s grace which was given to me for you; 3 (F)that (G)by revelation there was (H)made known to me (I)the mystery, (J)as I wrote before in brief. 4 About which, when you read you can understand (K)my insight [a]into the (L)mystery of Christ, 5 which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it was now revealed to His holy (M)apostles and prophets [b]in the Spirit: 6 that the Gentiles are (N)fellow heirs and (O)fellow members of the body, and (P)fellow partakers of the promise in (Q)Christ Jesus through the gospel, 7 (R)of which I was made a (S)minister, according to the gift of (T)God’s grace which was given to me (U)according to the working of His power. 8 To me, (V)the very least of all [c]saints, this grace was given, to (W)proclaim to the Gentiles the good news of the unfathomable (X)riches of Christ, 9 and to bring to light for all what is the administration of the (Y)mystery which for ages has been (Z)hidden in God (AA)who created all things; 10 so that the manifold (AB)wisdom of God might now be (AC)made known through the church to the (AD)rulers and the authorities in (AE)the heavenly places. 11 This was in (AF)accordance with the [d]eternal purpose which He [e]carried out in (AG)Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and [f](AH)confident (AI)access through faith [g]in Him. 13 Therefore I ask [h]you not (AJ)to lose heart at my afflictions (AK)on your behalf, which are your glory.
Prayer for Spiritual Power
14 For this reason I (AL)bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom [i]every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that He would give you, according to (AM)the riches of His glory, to be (AN)strengthened with power through His Spirit in (AO)the inner man, 17 so that (AP)Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being firmly (AQ)rooted and (AR)grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with (AS)all the [j]saints what is (AT)the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know (AU)the love of Christ which (AV)surpasses knowledge, that you may be (AW)filled up to all the (AX)fullness of God.
20 (AY)Now to Him who is (AZ)able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or understand, (BA)according to the power that works within us, 21 (BB)to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations [k]forever and ever. Amen.
