Redemption of Houses Given as Votive Offerings
14 “‘If a man consecrates his house as holy to the Lord, the priest will establish its conversion value, whether good or bad. Just as the priest establishes its conversion value, thus it will stand.[a] 15 If the one who consecrates it redeems his house, he must add to it one-fifth of its conversion value in silver, and it will belong to him.[b]
Redemption of Fields Given as Votive Offerings
16 “‘If a man consecrates to the Lord some of his own landed property, the conversion value must be calculated in accordance with the amount of seed needed to sow it,[c] a homer of barley seed being priced at fifty shekels of silver.[d] 17 If he consecrates his field in the Jubilee year,[e] the conversion value will stand, 18 but if[f] he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, the priest will calculate the price[g] for him according to the years that are left until the next Jubilee year, and it will be deducted from the conversion value. 19 If, however, the one who consecrated the field redeems it,[h] he must add to it one-fifth of the conversion price[i] and it will belong to him.[j] 20 If he does not redeem the field, but sells[k] the field to someone else, he may never redeem it. 21 When it reverts[l] in the Jubilee, the field will be holy to the Lord like a permanently dedicated field;[m] it will become the priest’s property.[n]
22 “‘If he consecrates to the Lord a field he has purchased,[o] which is not part of his own landed property, 23 the priest will calculate for him the amount of its conversion value until the Jubilee year, and he must pay[p] the conversion value on that Jubilee day as something that is holy to the Lord. 24 In the Jubilee year the field will return to the one from whom he bought it, the one to whom it belongs as landed property. 25 Every conversion value must be calculated by the standard of the sanctuary shekel;[q] twenty gerahs to the shekel.
Redemption of the Firstborn
26 “‘Surely no man may consecrate a firstborn that already belongs to the Lord as a firstborn among the animals; whether it is an ox or a sheep, it belongs to the Lord.[r] 27 If, however,[s] it is among the unclean animals, he may ransom it according to[t] its conversion value and must add one-fifth to it, but if it is not redeemed it must be sold according to its conversion value.
Things Permanently Dedicated to the Lord
28 “‘Surely anything that a man permanently dedicates to the Lord[u] from all that belongs to him, whether from people, animals, or his landed property, must be neither sold nor redeemed; anything permanently dedicated is most holy to the Lord. 29 Any human being who is permanently dedicated[v] to the Lord[w] must not be ransomed; such a person must be put to death.
Redemption of the Tithe
30 “‘Any tithe[x] of the land, from the grain of the land or from the fruit of the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord. 31 If a man redeems[y] part of his tithe, however, he must add one-fifth to it.[z] 32 All the tithe of herds or flocks, everything which passes under the rod, the tenth one will be holy to the Lord.[aa] 33 The owner[ab] must not examine the animals to distinguish between good and bad, and he must not exchange it. If, however, he does exchange it,[ac] both the original animal[ad] and its substitute will be holy[ae] and must not be redeemed.’”

34 These are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses to tell the Israelites[af] at Mount Sinai.
Organizing the Census of the Israelites
1 [ag] Now the Lord[ah] spoke[ai] to Moses in the tent of meeting[aj] in the desert[ak] of Sinai[al] on the first day of the second month of the second year after[am] the Israelites[an] departed from the land of Egypt.[ao] He said:[ap] 2 “Take a census[aq] of the entire[ar] Israelite community[as] by their clans and families,[at] counting the name of every individual male.[au] 3 You and Aaron are to number[av] all in Israel who can serve in the army,[aw] those who are[ax] twenty years old or older,[ay] by their divisions.[az] 4 And to help you[ba] there is to be a man from each[bb] tribe, each man[bc] the head[bd] of his family.[be] 5 Now these are the names of the men who are to help[bf] you:
from[bg] Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;
6 from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;[bh]
7 from Judah, Nahshon[bi] son of Amminadab;
8 from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar;
9 from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon;
10 from the sons of Joseph:
from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud;
from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur;
11 from Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;
12 from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;
13 from Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran;
14 from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel;[bj]
15 from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.”
The Census of the Tribes
16 These were the ones chosen[bk] from the community, leaders[bl] of their ancestral tribes.[bm] They were the heads of the thousands[bn] of Israel.
17 So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been mentioned specifically by name, 18 and they assembled the entire community together on the first day of the second month.[bo] Then the people recorded their ancestry[bp] by their clans and families, and the men who were twenty years old or older were listed[bq] by name individually, 19 just as the Lord had commanded Moses. And so he numbered them in the desert of Sinai.
20 And they were as follows:
The descendants of Reuben, the firstborn son of Israel: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name individually. 21 Those of them who were numbered[br] from the tribe of Reuben were 46,500.
22 From the descendants of Simeon: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males numbered of them[bs] twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name individually. 23 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Simeon were 59,300.
24 [bt] From the descendants of Gad: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name. 25 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Gad were 45,650.
26 From the descendants of Judah: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name. 27 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Judah were 74,600.
28 From the descendants of Issachar: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name. 29 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Issachar were 54,400.
30 From the descendants of Zebulun: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name. 31 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Zebulun were 57,400.
32 From the sons of Joseph:
From the descendants of Ephraim: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name. 33 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Ephraim were 40,500. 34 From the descendants of Manasseh: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name. 35 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Manasseh were 32,200.
36 From the descendants of Benjamin: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name. 37 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Benjamin were 35,400.
38 From the descendants of Dan: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name. 39 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Dan were 62,700.
40 From the descendants of Asher: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name. 41 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Asher were 41,500.
42 From[bu] the descendants of Naphtali: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name. 43 Those of them who were numbered from the tribe of Naphtali were 53,400.
44 These were the men whom Moses and Aaron numbered[bv] along with the twelve leaders of Israel, each of whom[bw] was from his own family. 45 All the Israelites who were twenty years old or older, who could serve in Israel’s army, were numbered[bx] according to their families. 46 And all those numbered totaled 603,550.
The Exemption of the Levites
47 But[by] the Levites, according to the tribe of their fathers,[bz] were not numbered[ca] among them. 48 The Lord had said to Moses,[cb] 49 “Only the tribe of Levi[cc] you must not number[cd] or count[ce] with[cf] the other Israelites. 50 But appoint[cg] the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony,[ch] over all its furnishings and over everything in it. They must carry[ci] the tabernacle and all its furnishings; and they[cj] must attend to it and camp around it.[ck] 51 Whenever the tabernacle is to move,[cl] the Levites must take it down, and whenever the tabernacle is to be reassembled,[cm] the Levites must set it up.[cn] Any unauthorized person[co] who approaches it must be killed.
52 “The Israelites will camp according to their divisions, each man in his camp, and each man by his standard. 53 But the Levites must camp around the tabernacle of the testimony, so that the Lord’s anger[cp] will not fall on the Israelite community. The Levites are responsible for the care[cq] of the tabernacle of the testimony.”
54 The Israelites did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses[cr]—that is what they did.
The Triumphal Entry
11 Now[a] as they approached Jerusalem, near Bethphage[b] and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives,[c] Jesus[d] sent two of his disciples 2 and said to them, “Go to the village ahead of you.[e] As soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there that has never been ridden.[f] Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it[g] and will send it back here soon.’” 4 So[h] they went and found a colt tied at a door, outside in the street, and untied it. 5 Some people standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6 They replied as Jesus had told them, and the bystanders[i] let them go. 7 Then[j] they brought the colt to Jesus, threw their cloaks[k] on it, and he sat on it.[l] 8 Many spread their cloaks on the road and others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9 Both those who went ahead and those who followed kept shouting, “Hosanna![m] Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord![n] 10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!” 11 Then[o] Jesus[p] entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. And after looking around at everything, he went out to Bethany with the twelve since it was already late.
Cursing of the Fig Tree
12 Now[q] the next day, as they went out from Bethany, he was hungry. 13 After noticing in the distance a fig tree with leaves, he went to see if he could find any fruit[r] on it. When he came to it he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 He said to it,[s] “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.[t]
Cleansing the Temple
15 Then[u] they came to Jerusalem. Jesus[v] entered the temple area[w] and began to drive out those who were selling and buying in the temple courts.[x] He turned over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves, 16 and he would not permit anyone to carry merchandise[y] through the temple courts.[z] 17 Then he began to teach[aa] them and said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’?[ab] But you have turned it into a den[ac] of robbers!”[ad] 18 The chief priests and the experts in the law[ae] heard it and they considered how they could assassinate[af] him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed by his teaching. 19 When evening came, Jesus and his disciples[ag] went out of the city.
The Withered Fig Tree
20 In the morning as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21 Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered.” 22 Jesus said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 I tell you the truth,[ah] if someone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24 For this reason I tell you, whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will[ai] also forgive you your sins.”[aj]
