Psalm 38

Do Not Forsake Me, O Yahweh

A Psalm of David. To bring to remembrance.

38 O Yahweh, (A)reprove me not in Your wrath,
And discipline me not in Your burning anger.
For Your (B)arrows have pressed deep into me,
And (C)Your hand has pressed down upon me.
There is (D)no soundness in my flesh (E)because of Your indignation;
There is no health (F)in my bones because of my sin.
For my (G)iniquities go over my head;
As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.
My [a]wounds stink and rot
Because of (H)my [b]folly.
I am bent over and (I)greatly bowed down;
I (J)go mourning all day long.
For my loins are filled with (K)burning,
And there is (L)no soundness in my flesh.
I am (M)faint and [c]badly crushed;
I [d](N)groan because of the [e]agitation of my heart.

Lord, all (O)my desire is [f]before You;
And my (P)sighing is not hidden from You.
10 My heart throbs, (Q)my strength forsakes me;
And the (R)light of my eyes, even [g]that [h]has gone from me.
11 My [i](S)loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague;
And my kinsmen (T)stand afar off.
12 Those who (U)search for my life (V)lay snares for me;
And those who (W)seek [j]to do me evil have [k]threatened destruction,
And they (X)meditate on deception all day long.

13 But I, like a deaf man, do not hear;
And I am like a (Y)mute man who does not open his mouth.
14 And I am like a man who does not hear,
And in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15 For (Z)I [l]wait on You, O Yahweh;
You (AA)will answer, O Lord my God.
16 For I said, “Save, lest they be glad over me,
Who, when my foot stumbles, (AB)magnify themselves against me.”
17 For I am (AC)ready to fall,
And (AD)my [m]sorrow is continually before me.
18 For I [n](AE)confess my iniquity;
I am full of (AF)anxiety because of my sin.
19 But my (AG)enemies are vigorous and [o]strong,
And those who wrongfully (AH)hate me abound.
20 And those who (AI)repay evil for good,
They (AJ)accuse me, for I pursue what is good.
21 Do not forsake me, O Yahweh;
O my God, (AK)do not be far from me!
22 Make (AL)haste to help me,
O Lord, (AM)my salvation!

Psalm 119:25-48

Daleth

25 My (A)soul clings to the dust;
(B)Revive me (C)according to Your word.
26 I have recounted my ways, and You have answered me;
(D)Teach me Your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts,
So I will (E)muse on Your wondrous deeds.
28 My (F)soul [a]weeps because of grief;
(G)Raise me up according to Your word.
29 Remove the false way from me,
And graciously grant me Your law.
30 I have chosen the faithful way;
I have [b]placed Your judgments before me.
31 I (H)cling to Your testimonies;
O Yahweh, do not put me to shame!
32 I shall run the way of Your commandments,
For You will (I)enlarge my heart.

He

33 (J)Instruct me, O Yahweh, in the way of Your statutes,
That I may observe it to the end.
34 (K)Cause me to understand, that I may (L)observe Your law
And keep it (M)with all my heart.
35 Cause me to walk in the (N)path of Your commandments,
For I (O)delight in it.
36 (P)Cause my heart to incline to Your testimonies
And not to (Q)dishonest gain.
37 Cause my (R)eyes to turn away from looking at worthlessness,
And (S)revive me in Your ways.
38 (T)Cause Your [c]word to be established for Your slave,
[d]As that which produces fear for You.
39 (U)Cause my reproach which I dread to pass away,
For Your judgments are good.
40 Behold, I (V)long for Your precepts;
Revive me in Your righteousness.

Vav

41 May Your (W)lovingkindnesses also come to me, O Yahweh,
Your salvation (X)according to Your [e]word;
42 So I will have an (Y)answer for him who (Z)reproaches me,
For I trust in Your word.
43 And do not take away the word of truth utterly from my mouth,
For I [f](AA)wait for Your judgments.
44 So I will (AB)keep Your law continually,
Forever and ever.
45 And I will (AC)walk in a wide place,
For I (AD)seek Your precepts.
46 I will also speak of Your testimonies (AE)before kings
And I shall not be ashamed.
47 I shall [g](AF)delight in Your commandments,
Which I (AG)love.
48 And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments,
Which I (AH)love;
And I will (AI)muse on Your statutes.

Daniel 5:1-12

Belshazzar’s Feast

Belshazzar the king [a]held a great (A)feast for one thousand of his nobles, and he was drinking wine in the presence of the thousand. When Belshazzar tasted the wine, he said to bring the gold and silver (B)vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his [b]father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them. Then they brought the gold vessels that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God which was in Jerusalem; and the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines drank from them. They (C)drank the wine and praised the gods of (D)gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone.

Suddenly the fingers of a man’s hand came out and began writing opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace, and the king saw the [c]back of the hand that did the writing. Then the [d](E)splendor of the king’s face changed, and his thoughts alarmed him, and his (F)hip joints [e]went slack, and his (G)knees were knocking against each other. The king called out loudly to bring in the (H)conjurers, the [f]Chaldeans, and the diviners. The king answered and said to the wise men of Babylon, “Any man who can read this writing and declare its interpretation to me shall be (I)clothed with purple and have a (J)necklace of gold around his neck and rule with power as [g](K)third ruler in the kingdom.” Then all the king’s wise men came in, but (L)they could not read the writing or make known its interpretation to the king. Then King Belshazzar was greatly (M)alarmed, and the [h](N)splendor of his face changed further, and his nobles were perplexed.

10 The queen entered the banquet [i]hall because of the words of the king and his nobles; the queen answered and said, “(O)O king, live forever! Do not let your thoughts alarm you or the [j]splendor of your face be changed. 11 There is a (P)man in your kingdom in whom is [k]a (Q)spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father, illumination, insight, and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him. And King Nebuchadnezzar, your father, your father [l](R)the king, set him as chief of the [m]magicians, conjurers, [n]Chaldeans, and diviners. 12 This was because an (S)extraordinary spirit, knowledge and insight, interpretation of dreams, explanation of enigmas, and [o]solving of difficult problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named (T)Belteshazzar. Let Daniel now be summoned, and he will declare the interpretation.”

1 John 5:1-12

Overcoming the World

(A)Everyone who believes that Jesus is the [a]Christ has been [b](B)born of God, and everyone who loves the [c]One who gives new birth (C)loves also the one who has been [d]born of Him. (D)By this we know that (E)we love the children of God, when we love God and do His commandments. For (F)this is the love of God, that we (G)keep His commandments; and (H)His commandments are not burdensome. For everything that has been [e](I)born of God (J)overcomes the world; and this is the overcoming that has overcome the world—our faith.

Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who (K)believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is the One who came (L)by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not [f]with the water only, but [g]with the water and [h]with the blood. It is (M)the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are (N)three that bear witness: [i]the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are [j]in agreement. (O)If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for the witness of God is this, that (P)He has borne witness about His Son. 10 The one who believes in the Son of God (Q)has this witness in himself. The one who does not believe God has (R)made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness which God has borne witness about His Son. 11 And the witness is this, that God gave us (S)eternal life, and (T)this life is in His Son. 12 (U)He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have that life.

Luke 4:38-44

Peter’s Mother-in-Law and Many Others Healed

38 (A)Then He stood up and left the synagogue, and entered Simon’s home. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was (B)suffering from a high fever, and they asked Him [a]to help her. 39 And standing over her, He (C)rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she stood up and [b]began waiting on them.

40 (D)And while (E)the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him, and (F)laying His hands on each one of them, He was (G)healing them. 41 And demons also were coming out of many, shouting and saying, “You are (H)the Son of God!” But (I)rebuking them, He was (J)not allowing them to speak, because they knew Him to be the [c]Christ.

42 (K)When day came, Jesus left and went to a secluded place; and the crowds were eagerly seeking for Him, and came to Him and tried to keep Him from going away from them. 43 But He said to them, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also, (L)for I was sent for this purpose.”

44 So He kept on preaching in the synagogues (M)of [d]Judea.
