Book of Common Prayer
The King of Glory
Of David. A Psalm.
24 The (A)earth is Yahweh’s, as well as its fullness,
The (B)world, and those who dwell in it.
2 For He has (C)founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the rivers.
3 Who may (D)ascend into the (E)mountain of Yahweh?
And who may rise in His holy (F)place?
4 He who has (G)innocent hands and a (H)pure heart,
Who has not (I)lifted up his soul [a]to worthlessness
And has not (J)sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall lift up a (K)blessing from Yahweh
And [b](L)righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 [c]This is the generation of those who (M)seek Him,
Who seek Your face—pay heed O Jacob. [d]Selah.
7 (N)Lift up your heads, O gates,
And be lifted up, O [e]ancient doors,
That the King of (O)glory may come in!
8 Who is this King of glory?
Yahweh (P)strong and mighty,
Yahweh (Q)mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O gates,
And lift yourselves up, O [f]ancient doors,
That the King of (R)glory may come in!
10 Who is He, this King of glory?
Yahweh of (S)hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah.
The Voice of Yahweh
A Psalm of David.
29 (A)Ascribe to Yahweh, O [a]sons of the mighty,
Ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name;
Worship Yahweh (B)in the splendor of holiness.
3 The (C)voice of Yahweh is upon the waters;
The God of glory (D)thunders,
Yahweh is over [b](E)many waters.
4 The voice of Yahweh is (F)powerful,
The voice of Yahweh is full of splendor.
5 The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars;
Indeed, Yahweh breaks in pieces (G)the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon (H)skip like a calf,
And (I)Sirion like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of Yahweh hews out [c]flames of fire.
8 The voice of Yahweh causes the wilderness to tremble;
Yahweh causes the wilderness of (J)Kadesh to tremble.
9 The voice of Yahweh makes (K)the deer to calve
And strips the forests bare;
And (L)in His temple everything says, “Glory!”
How Majestic Is Your Name
For the choir director. According to the Gittith. A Psalm of David.
8 O Yahweh, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who [a](A)displays Your splendor above the heavens!
2 (B)From the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have established [b](C)strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make (D)the enemy and the revengeful cease.
3 When I (E)see (F)Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The (G)moon and the stars, which You have established;
4 (H)What is man that You remember him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
5 Yet You have made him a (I)little lower than the [c]angels,
And (J)You crown him with (K)glory and majesty!
6 You make him to (L)rule over the works of Your hands;
You have (M)put all things under his feet,
7 All sheep and oxen,
And also the animals of the field,
8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
9 (N)O Yahweh, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!
Blessed Is the Man Who Trusts in You
For the choir director. According to the [a]Gittith. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.
84 How lovely are Your (A)dwelling places,
O Yahweh of hosts!
2 My (B)soul has longed and even [b]fainted for the courts of Yahweh;
My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the (C)living God.
3 Even the bird has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself, where she sets her young,
At Your (D)altars, O Yahweh of hosts,
(E)My King and my God.
4 How (F)blessed are those who dwell in Your house!
They are (G)ever praising You. [c]Selah.
5 How blessed is the man whose (H)strength is in You,
In [d]whose heart are the (I)highways to Zion!
6 Passing through the valley of [e]Baca they make it a [f]spring;
The (J)early rain also wraps it up with blessings.
7 They (K)go from strength to strength,
[g]Each one of them (L)appears before God in Zion.
8 O (M)Yahweh God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O (N)God of Jacob! Selah.
9 See our (O)shield, O God,
And look upon the face of (P)Your anointed.
10 For (Q)better is a day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere.
I would choose to stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For Yahweh God is (R)a sun and (S)shield;
Yahweh gives grace and (T)glory;
(U)No good thing does He withhold [h]from those who walk blamelessly.
12 O Yahweh of hosts,
How (V)blessed is the man who trusts in You!
14 Then Pharaoh sent and (A)called for Joseph, and they (B)rushed him out of the pit; and he shaved himself and changed his clothes, and he came to Pharaoh. 15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, (C)but no one can interpret it; yet (D)I have heard [a]it said about you, that [b]you hear a dream and that you can interpret it.” 16 Joseph then answered Pharaoh, saying, “[c](E)It is not in me; (F)God will [d]answer concerning the welfare of Pharaoh.” 17 So Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, “In my dream, behold, I was standing on the bank of the Nile; 18 and behold, seven cows, [e]fat and sleek came up out of the Nile, and they grazed in the reeds. 19 And behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor and very ugly and lean, such as I had never seen in all the land of Egypt, in regard to [f]ugliness; 20 and the lean and ugly cows ate up the first seven fat cows. 21 But they [g]devoured them, and yet it could not be known that they had [h]devoured them. [i]For they were just as ugly as [j]before. Then I awoke. 22 Then I saw also in my dream, and behold, seven ears, full and good, came up on a single stalk; 23 and behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and scorched by the east wind, sprouted up after them; 24 and the thin ears swallowed the seven good ears. So (G)I told it to the [k]magicians, but there was no one who could declare it to me.”
25 Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “Pharaoh’s [l]dreams are one and the same; (H)God has declared to Pharaoh what He is about to do. 26 The seven good cows are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years; the [m]dreams are one and the same. 27 And the seven lean and ugly cows that came up after them are seven years, and the seven lean ears scorched by the east wind (I)will be seven years of famine. 28 [n]It is as I have spoken to Pharaoh: (J)God has shown to Pharaoh what He is about to do. 29 Behold, (K)seven years of great abundance are coming in all the land of Egypt; 30 and after them (L)seven years of famine will arise, and all the abundance will be forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine will [o]ravage the land, 31 so that the abundance will be unknown in the land because of that subsequent famine; for it will be very heavy. 32 Now as for the repeating of the dream to Pharaoh twice, it means that (M)the matter is confirmed by God, and God will quickly bring it about. 33 So now let Pharaoh look for a man (N)understanding and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. 34 Let Pharaoh take action and appoint overseers over the land, and let him exact a fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven years of abundance. 35 Then let them (O)gather all the food of these good years that are coming, and let them store up the grain for food in the cities under Pharaoh’s authority, and let them keep watch over it. 36 And let the food be appointed for the land for the seven years of famine which will happen in the land of Egypt, so that the land will not be cut off during the famine.”
Joseph Is Set over Egypt
37 And the [p]proposal seemed good [q]to Pharaoh and [r]to all his servants. 38 Then Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this, (P)in whom is a divine spirit?” 39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made you know all of this, there is no one so (Q)understanding and wise as you are. 40 (R)You shall be over my house, and according to your [s]command all my people shall [t]do homage; only in the throne I will be greater than you.” 41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you (S)over all the land of Egypt.” 42 Then Pharaoh (T)removed his signet ring from his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand and clothed him in garments of fine linen and (U)put the gold necklace around his neck. 43 And he had him ride in [u]his second chariot; and they called out before him, “[v]Bow the knee!” And he set him over all the land of Egypt. 44 Moreover, Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Though I am Pharaoh, yet (V)without [w]your permission no one shall raise his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.” 45 Then Pharaoh named Joseph [x]Zaphenath-paneah; and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of [y](W)On, as a wife. And Joseph went forth over the land of Egypt.
3 Or do you not know that all of us who were (A)baptized into (B)Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were (C)buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was (D)raised from the dead through the (E)glory of the Father, so we too might walk in (F)newness of life. 5 For (G)if we have become [a]united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be [b]in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our (H)old man was (I)crucified with Him, in order that our (J)body of sin might be [c]done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for (K)he who has died has been [d]justified from sin.
8 Now (L)if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been (M)raised from the dead, [e]is never to die again; (N)death no longer is master over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Even so consider yourselves to be (O)dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12 Therefore do not let sin (P)reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13 and do not go on (Q)presenting your members to sin as [f]instruments of unrighteousness, but (R)present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as [g]instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For (S)sin shall not (T)be master over you, for (U)you are not under law but (V)under grace.
19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (A)the Son can do nothing from Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever [a]the Father does, these things the Son also does in the same manner. 20 (B)For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him (C)greater works than these, so that you will marvel. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and (D)gives them life, even so (E)the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. 22 For not even the Father judges anyone, but (F)He has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. (G)He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and (H)believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and (I)does not come into judgment, but has (J)passed out of death into life.
