Book of Common Prayer
30 I will magnify You, O LORD. You have exalted me and have not made my foes to rejoice over me.
2 O LORD, my God, I cried to You; and You have restored me.
3 O LORD, You have brought up my soul out of the grave. You have revived me from those who go down into the pit.
4 Sing praises to the LORD, His Saints, and give thanks before the remembrance of His Holiness.
5 For His anger endures but a while. In His favor is life. Weeping may abide at evening, but joy comes in the morning.
6 And in my prosperity, I said, “I shall never be moved.”
7 For You, LORD, from Your goodness, had made my mountain to stand strong. You hid Your face, and I was troubled.
8 Then I cried to You, O LORD, and prayed to my LORD.
9 What profit is there in my blood when I go down to the pit! Shall the dust give thanks to You? Or shall it declare Your Truth?
10 Hear, O LORD; and have mercy upon me. LORD, be my Helper.
11 You have turned my mourning into joy. You have loosened my sackcloth and girded me with gladness.
12 Therefore, my tongue shall praise You, and not cease. O LORD, my God, I will give thanks to You forever. To him who excels: A Psalm of David.
32 Blessed is he whose wickedness is forgiven; whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
3 When I held my tongue (my bones being consumed when I roared all day,
4 for Your hand is heavy upon me day and night) and my moisture turned into the drought of Summer (Selah),
5 I acknowledged my sin to You and did not hide my iniquity. I thought, “I will confess to the LORD my wickedness against myself.” And You forgave the punishment of my sin. Selah.
6 Therefore, everyone who is godly shall make his prayer to You in a time when You may be found. Surely, in the flood of great waters they shall not come near him.
7 You are my Secret Place. You preserve me from trouble. You surround me with joyful deliverance. Selah.
8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you shall go. I will guide you with My eye.
9 “Be not like a horse, or like a mule, which do not understand; whose mouths you bind with bit and bridle, lest they come near you.”
10 Many sorrows shall come to the wicked. But he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him.
11 Be glad, you righteous, and rejoice in the LORD; and be joyful, all you who are upright in heart!
42 As the deer brays for the rivers of water, so panted my soul after You, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, even for the living God. When shall I come and appear before the presence of God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me daily, “Where is your God?”
4 When I remembered these things, I poured out my very heart; because I had gone with the multitude and led them into the House of God with the voice of singing and praise, as a multitude that keeps a feast.
5 Why are you cast down, my soul, and unquiet within me? Wait on God; for I will still give Him thanks for the help of His presence.
6 My God, my soul is cast down within me because I remembered You from the land of Jordan, and Hermon, and from the Mount Mizar.
7 One deep calls another deep by the noise of Your waterspouts. All Your waves and Your floods have gone over me.
8 The LORD will grant His lovingkindness in the day; and in the night shall I sing of Him a prayer to the God of my life.
9 I will say to God, my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning when the enemy oppresses?”
10 As a sword shattering my bones, my enemies reproach me, saying daily to me, “Where is your God?”
11 Why are you cast down, my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Wait on God. For I will yet give thanks to Him, to the Face of my Deliverer and my God.
43 Judge me, O God, and defend my cause against the unmerciful people. Deliver me from the deceitful and wicked man.
2 For You are the God of my strength. Why have You put me away? Why do I go so mourning when the enemy oppressed me?
3 Send Your light and Your truth. Let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your Holy Mountain, and to Your Tabernacles.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God, even to the God of my joy and gladness. And upon the harp will I give thanks to You, O God, my God.
5 Why are You cast down, my soul? And why are You disquieted within me? Wait on God; for I will still give Him thanks, my present help and my God. To him who excels: A Psalm to give instruction, committed to the sons of Korah.
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spoke, and said to Daniel, “Your God, whom you always serve, he will deliver you.”
17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his princes, that the purpose concerning Daniel might not be changed.
18 Then the king went to his palace and fasted, and no instruments of music were brought before him, and he did not sleep.
19 Then the king arose early in the morning, and went quickly to the den of lions.
20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice to Daniel. And the king spoke, and said to Daniel, “O Daniel, the servant of the living God, was not your God (whom you always serve) able to deliver you from the lions?
21 Then Daniel said to the king, “O king, live forever!
22 My God has sent his Angel and has shut the lion’s mouths. And they have not hurt me. For I was justified before him. And to you, O king, I have done no harm!”
23 Then was the King exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel out of the den. So, Daniel was brought out of the den, and no manner of harm was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
24 And by the commandment of the king, these men who had accused Daniel were brought, and were cast into the den of lions; they, their children, and their wives. And the lions overpowered them, and broke all their bones in pieces, before they ever hit the ground of the den.
25 Afterward, King Darius wrote, “To all people, nations and languages, who dwell in all the world: Peace be multiplied to you.
26 “I make a decree, that in all the dominion of my kingdom, men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For he is the living God, and remains forever. And his kingdom shall not perish. And his dominion shall be everlasting.
27 “He rescues and delivers. And he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus of Persia.
1 The elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth:
2 Beloved, I wish chiefly that you prosper and fare well as your soul prospers.
3 For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified of the truth that is in you; how you walk in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than these: to hear that my sons walk in truth.
5 Beloved, you faithfully do whatever you do for the brother and for strangers;
6 who bore witness of your love before the churches. If you bring them on their journey in a manner worthy of God, you shall do well.
7 Because, they went forth for His Name’s sake and took nothing from the Gentiles.
8 Therefore, we ought to receive such, so that we might be helpers to the Truth.
9 I wrote to the church. But Diotrephes (who loves to have the pre-eminence among them) will not receive us.
10 Therefore, if I come, I will remind you of his deeds which he does - prattling against us with malicious words - and not content with this, he not only does not receive the brothers himself, but forbids those who would and thrusts them out of the church.
11 Beloved, do not follow that which is evil, but that which is good. The one who does well is of God. But the one who does evil has not seen God.
12 Demetrius has good report of all, and of the truth itself. Indeed, and we ourselves bear witness. And you know that our witness is true.
13 I have many things to write. But I will not write to you with ink and pen.
14 For I trust I shall shortly see you. And we shall speak mouth to mouth. Peace be with you. The friends salute you. Greet your friends by name.
27 And after that, He went forth and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax booth, and said to him, “Follow Me.”
28 And he left all, rose up, and followed Him.
29 Then Levi made Him a great feast in his own house, where there was a great multitude of tax collectors, and of others who sat at table with them.
30 But those who were scribes and Pharisees among them, murmured against His disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
31 Then Jesus answered, and said to them, “Those who are whole, do not need the Physician, but those who are sick.
32 I did not come to call the righteous to repentance, but sinners.”
33 Then they said to Him, “Why do the disciples of John often fast and pray, and of the Pharisees also, but Yours eat and drink?”
34 And He said to them, “Can you make the children of the wedding chamber fast, as long as the bridegroom is with them?
35 “But the days will come when even the bridegroom shall be taken away from them. Then shall they fast in those days.”
36 Then He also told them a parable. “No one sews a piece of a new garment into an old one. For then the new tears it, and the piece taken out of the new does not match the old.
37 “Also, no one pours new wine into old vessels. For then the new wine will break the vessels, and it will run out. And the vessels will perish.
38 “But new wine must be poured into new vessels. So that both are preserved.
39 “Also, no one who drinks old wine immediately desires new. For he says, ‘The old is better.’”
