Psalm 29

Psalm 29[a]

The Lord of Majesty Acclaimed as King of the World

A psalm of David.

I

Give to the Lord, you sons of God,[b]
    give to the Lord glory and might;
Give to the Lord the glory due his name.
    Bow down before the Lord’s holy splendor!(A)

II

The voice of the Lord[c] is over the waters;
    the God of glory thunders,
    the Lord, over the mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is power;
    the voice of the Lord is splendor.(B)
The voice of the Lord cracks the cedars;
    the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon,
Makes Lebanon leap like a calf,
    and Sirion[d] like a young bull.
The voice of the Lord strikes with fiery flame;
    the voice of the Lord shakes the desert;
    the Lord shakes the desert of Kadesh.
[e]The voice of the Lord makes the deer dance
    and strips the forests bare.
    All in his Temple say, “Glory!”

III

10 The Lord sits enthroned above the flood![f](C)
    The Lord reigns as king forever!
11 May the Lord give might to his people;[g]
    may the Lord bless his people with peace!(D)

Psalm 98

Psalm 98[a]

The Coming of God

A psalm.

I

Sing a new song to the Lord,
    for he has done marvelous deeds.(A)
His right hand and holy arm
    have won the victory.[b](B)
The Lord has made his victory known;
    has revealed his triumph in the sight of the nations,
He has remembered his mercy and faithfulness
    toward the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
    the victory of our God.

II

Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth;
    break into song; sing praise.
Sing praise to the Lord with the lyre,
    with the lyre and melodious song.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
    shout with joy to the King, the Lord.(C)

III

Let the sea and what fills it resound,(D)
    the world and those who dwell there.
Let the rivers clap their hands,
    the mountains shout with them for joy,(E)
(F)Before the Lord who comes,
    who comes to govern the earth,(G)
To govern the world with justice
    and the peoples with fairness.

Isaiah 66:18-23

God Gathers the Nations. 18 [a]I am coming to gather all nations and tongues; they shall come and see my glory.(A) 19 I will place a sign among them; from them I will send survivors to the nations: to Tarshish, Put and Lud, Mosoch, Tubal and Javan, to the distant coastlands which have never heard of my fame, or seen my glory; and they shall proclaim my glory among the nations. 20 They shall bring all your kin from all the nations as an offering to the Lord, on horses and in chariots, in carts, upon mules and dromedaries, to Jerusalem, my holy mountain, says the Lord, just as the Israelites bring their grain offering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord. 21 Some of these I will take as priests and Levites, says the Lord.

22 Just as the new heavens and the new earth
    which I am making
Shall endure before me—oracle of the Lord
    so shall your descendants and your name endure.(B)
23 From new moon to new moon,
    and from sabbath to sabbath,
All flesh shall come to worship
    before me, says the Lord.(C)

Romans 15:7-13

Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God.(A) For I say that Christ became a minister of the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, to confirm the promises to the patriarchs,(B) but so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written:

“Therefore, I will praise you among the Gentiles
    and sing praises to your name.”(C)

10 And again it says:(D)

“Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.”[a]

11 And again:

“Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles,
    and let all the peoples praise him.”(E)

12 And again Isaiah says:

“The root of Jesse shall come,
    raised up to rule the Gentiles;
in him shall the Gentiles hope.”(F)

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the holy Spirit.(G)
