Book of Common Prayer
Praise for God’s Mighty Deeds and for His Answer to Prayer.
For the choir director. A Song. A Psalm.
66 (A)Shout joyfully to God, all the earth;
2 Sing the (B)glory of His name;
Make His (C)praise glorious.
3 Say to God, “How (D)awesome are Your works!
Because of the greatness of Your power Your enemies will [a](E)give feigned obedience to You.
4 “(F)All the earth will worship You,
And will (G)sing praises to You;
They will sing praises to Your name.” [b]Selah.
5 (H)Come and see the works of God,
Who is (I)awesome in His deeds toward the sons of men.
6 He (J)turned the sea into dry land;
They passed through (K)the river on foot;
There let us (L)rejoice in Him!
7 He (M)rules by His might forever;
His (N)eyes keep watch on the nations;
Let not the rebellious (O)exalt themselves. Selah.
8 Bless our God, O peoples,
And [c](P)sound His praise abroad,
9 Who [d](Q)keeps us in life
And (R)does not allow our feet to [e]slip.
10 For You have (S)tried us, O God;
You have (T)refined us as silver is refined.
11 You (U)brought us into the net;
You laid an oppressive burden upon our loins.
12 You made men (V)ride over our heads;
We went through (W)fire and through water,
Yet You (X)brought us out into a place of abundance.
13 I shall (Y)come into Your house with burnt offerings;
I shall (Z)pay You my vows,
14 Which my lips uttered
And my mouth spoke when I was (AA)in distress.
15 I shall (AB)offer to You burnt offerings of fat beasts,
With the smoke of (AC)rams;
I shall make an offering of [f]bulls with male goats. Selah.
16 (AD)Come and hear, all who [g]fear God,
And I will (AE)tell of what He has done for my soul.
17 I cried to Him with my mouth,
And [h]He was (AF)extolled with my tongue.
18 If I [i](AG)regard wickedness in my heart,
The (AH)Lord [j]will not [k]hear;
19 But certainly (AI)God has heard;
He has given heed to the voice of my prayer.
20 (AJ)Blessed be God,
Who (AK)has not turned away my prayer
Nor His lovingkindness from me.
The Nations Exhorted to Praise God.
For the choir director; with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.
67 God be gracious to us and (AL)bless us,
And (AM)cause His face to shine [l]upon us— [m]Selah.
2 That (AN)Your way may be known on the earth,
(AO)Your salvation among all nations.
3 Let the (AP)peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
4 Let the (AQ)nations be glad and sing for joy;
For You will (AR)judge the peoples with uprightness
And (AS)guide the nations on the earth. Selah.
5 Let the (AT)peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
6 The (AU)earth has yielded its produce;
God, our God, (AV)blesses us.
7 God blesses us,
[n]That (AW)all the ends of the earth may fear Him.
The Works and the Word of God.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
19 The (A)heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their (B)expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
2 Day to (C)day pours forth speech,
And (D)night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
4 Their [a](E)line has gone out through all the earth,
And their utterances to the end of the world.
In them He has (F)placed a tent for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.
6 Its (G)rising is from [b]one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the [c]other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 (H)The law of the Lord is [d](I)perfect, (J)restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is (K)sure, making (L)wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are (M)right, (N)rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is (O)pure, (P)enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are (Q)true; they are (R)righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than (S)gold, yes, than much fine gold;
(T)Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them (U)Your servant is warned;
In keeping them there is great (V)reward.
12 Who can (W)discern his errors? (X)Acquit me of (Y)hidden faults.
13 Also keep back Your servant (Z)from presumptuous sins;
Let them not (AA)rule over me;
Then I will be [e](AB)blameless,
And I shall be acquitted of (AC)great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth and (AD)the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, (AE)my rock and my (AF)Redeemer.
God the Refuge of His People.
For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah, [a]set to Alamoth. A Song.
46 God is our (A)refuge and strength,
[b]A very (B)present help (C)in [c]trouble.
2 Therefore we will (D)not fear, though (E)the earth should change
And though (F)the mountains slip into the heart of the [d]sea;
3 Though its (G)waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. [e]Selah.
4 There is a (H)river whose streams make glad the (I)city of God,
The holy (J)dwelling places of the Most High.
5 God is (K)in the midst of her, she will not be moved;
God will (L)help her [f]when morning dawns.
6 The [g]nations (M)made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered;
He [h](N)raised His voice, the earth (O)melted.
7 The Lord of hosts (P)is with us;
The God of Jacob is (Q)our stronghold. Selah.
8 Come, (R)behold the works of the Lord,
[i]Who has wrought (S)desolations in the earth.
9 He (T)makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;
He (U)breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He (V)burns the chariots with fire.
10 “[j]Cease striving and (W)know that I am God;
I will be (X)exalted among the [k]nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.
8 When Israel (A)saw Joseph’s sons, he said, “Who are these?” 9 Joseph said to his father, “(B)They are my sons, whom God has given me here.” So he said, “Bring them to me, please, that (C)I may bless them.” 10 Now (D)the eyes of Israel were so dim from age that he could not see. Then [a]Joseph brought them close to him, and he (E)kissed them and embraced them. 11 Israel said to Joseph, “I never [b]expected to see your face, and behold, God has let me see your [c]children as well.” 12 Then Joseph [d]took them from his knees, and (F)bowed with his face to the ground. 13 Joseph took them both, Ephraim with his right hand toward Israel’s left, and Manasseh with his left hand toward Israel’s right, and brought them close to him. 14 But Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, [e]crossing his hands, [f]although (G)Manasseh was the firstborn. 15 He blessed Joseph, and said,
“(H)The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked,
(I)The God who has been my shepherd [g]all my life to this day,
16 (J)The angel who has redeemed me from all evil,
(K)Bless the lads;
And may my name [h]live on in them,
And the [i]names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac;
And (L)may they grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.”
17 When Joseph saw that his father (M)laid his right hand on Ephraim’s head, it displeased him; and he grasped his father’s hand to remove it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head. 18 Joseph said to his father, “Not so, my father, for this one is the firstborn. Place your right hand on his head.” 19 But his father refused and said, “I know, my son, I know; he also will become a people and he also will be great. However, his younger brother shall be greater than he, and (N)his [j]descendants shall become a [k]multitude of nations.” 20 (O)He blessed them that day, saying,
“By you Israel will pronounce blessing, saying,
‘May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh!’”
Thus he put Ephraim before Manasseh. 21 Then Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am about to die, but (P)God will be with you, and (Q)bring you back to the land of your fathers. 22 I give you one [l]portion more than your brothers, (R)which I took from the hand of the Amorite with my sword and my bow.”
11 But if the Spirit of Him who (A)raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, (B)He who raised (C)Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies [a]through His Spirit who dwells in you.
12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— 13 for (D)if you are living according to the flesh, you [b]must die; but if by the Spirit you are (E)putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are (F)being led by the Spirit of God, these are (G)sons of God. 15 For you (H)have not received a spirit of slavery [c]leading to fear again, but you (I)have received [d]a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “(J)Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself (K)testifies with our spirit that we are (L)children of God, 17 and if children, (M)heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, (N)if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (O)are not worthy to be compared with the (P)glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the (Q)anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for (R)the revealing of the (S)sons of God. 20 For the creation (T)was subjected to (U)futility, not willingly, but (V)because of Him who subjected it, [e]in hope 21 that (W)the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation (X)groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23 (Y)And not only this, but also we ourselves, having (Z)the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves (AA)groan within ourselves, (AB)waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, (AC)the redemption of our body. 24 For (AD)in hope we have been saved, but (AE)hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? 25 But (AF)if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.
27 Do not (A)work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to (B)eternal life, which (C)the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, (D)has set His seal.” 28 Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is (E)the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He (F)has sent.” 30 So they said to Him, “(G)What then do You do for a (H)sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? 31 (I)Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘(J)He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33 For the bread of God is [a]that which (K)comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, always (L)give us this bread.”
35 Jesus said to them, “(M)I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me (N)will never thirst. 36 But (O)I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. 37 (P)All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. 38 For (Q)I have come down from heaven, (R)not to do My own will, but (S)the will of Him who (T)sent Me. 39 This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of (U)all that He has given Me I (V)lose nothing, but (W)raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who (X)beholds the Son and (Y)believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will (Z)raise him up on the last day.”
