Book of Common Prayer
I Will Praise Yahweh Throughout My Life
146 [a]Praise Yah!
(A)Praise Yahweh, O my soul!
2 I will praise Yahweh (B)throughout my life;
I will (C)sing praises to my God while I have my being.
3 (D)Do not trust in nobles,
In merely a son of (E)man, in whom there is (F)no salvation.
4 His (G)spirit departs, he (H)returns to [b]the earth;
In that very day his (I)plans perish.
5 How (J)blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose (K)hope is in Yahweh his God,
6 Who (L)made heaven and earth,
The (M)sea and all that is in them;
Who (N)keeps truth forever;
7 Who (O)does justice for the oppressed;
Who (P)gives food to the hungry.
Yahweh (Q)sets the prisoners free.
8 Yahweh (R)opens the eyes of the blind;
Yahweh (S)raises up those who are bowed down;
Yahweh (T)loves the righteous;
9 Yahweh (U)keeps the sojourners;
He [c](V)helps up the orphan and the widow,
But He bends (W)the way of the wicked.
10 Yahweh will (X)reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, [d]from generation to generation.
[e]Praise Yah!
He Heals the Brokenhearted
147 [f]Praise Yah!
For (Y)it is good to sing praises to our God;
For [g]it is pleasant and praise is (Z)becoming.
2 Yahweh (AA)builds up Jerusalem;
He (AB)gathers the [h]outcasts of Israel.
3 He is the One who heals the (AC)brokenhearted
And who (AD)binds up their [i]wounds,
4 Who (AE)counts the number of the stars;
He [j](AF)gives names to all of them.
5 (AG)Great is our Lord and abundant in power;
His (AH)discernment is [k]infinite.
6 Yahweh [l](AI)helps up the afflicted;
He brings down the wicked to the ground.
7 (AJ)Sing to Yahweh with thanksgiving;
Sing praises to our God on the lyre.
8 He is the One who (AK)covers the heavens with clouds,
The One who (AL)provides rain for the earth,
The One who (AM)makes grass to sprout on the mountains,
9 Who (AN)gives to the animal its food,
And to the (AO)young ravens which call out.
10 He does not delight in the might of the (AP)horse;
He (AQ)does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 Yahweh (AR)is pleased with those who fear Him,
(AS)Those who wait for His lovingkindness.
12 Laud Yahweh, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For He strengthened the (AT)bars of your gates;
He (AU)blessed your sons within you.
14 He is the One who (AV)sets [m]peace in your borders,
He (AW)satisfies you with (AX)the [n]finest of the wheat,
15 The One who sends forth His (AY)command to the earth;
His (AZ)word runs very swiftly,
16 The One who gives (BA)snow like wool;
He scatters the (BB)frost like ashes,
17 Who casts forth His (BC)ice as fragments;
Who can stand before His (BD)cold?
18 He (BE)sends forth His word and melts them;
He (BF)causes His wind to blow and so the waters flow,
19 Who (BG)declares His words to Jacob,
His (BH)statutes and His judgments to Israel.
20 He (BI)has not done so with any nation;
So as for His judgments, they have (BJ)not known them.
[o]Praise Yah!

As a glad mother of children.
[v]Praise Yah!
Yahweh Answers Job
38 Then Yahweh (A)answered Job out of the [a]whirlwind and said,
2 “Who is this that (B)darkens counsel
By words without knowledge?
3 Now (C)gird up your loins like a man,
And (D)I will ask you, and you make Me know!
4 Where were you (E)when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell Me, if you know understanding,
5 Who set its (F)measurements? Since you know.
Or who stretched the line on it?
6 On what (G)were its bases sunk?
Or who laid its cornerstone,
7 When the morning stars sang together
And all the (H)sons of God shouted for joy?
8 “Or who (I)enclosed the sea with doors
When, bursting forth, it went out from the womb,
9 When I made a cloud its garment
And dense gloom its swaddling band,
10 And I [b](J)placed boundaries on it
And set a bolt and doors,
11 And I said, ‘Thus far you shall come, but no farther;
And here shall your proud waves stop’?
Job Repents in Dust and Ashes
42 Then Job answered Yahweh and said,
2 “I know that (A)You can do all things,
And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.
3 ‘Who is this that (B)hides counsel without knowledge?’
Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand,
Things (C)too marvelous for me, which I did not know.
4 ‘Hear, now, and I will speak;
I will (D)ask You, and You make me know.’
5 I have (E)heard of You by the hearing of the ear;
But now my (F)eye sees You;
4 And the (A)twenty-four elders and the (B)four living creatures (C)fell down and worshiped God who sits on the throne saying, “(D)Amen. (E)Hallelujah!” 5 And a voice came from the throne, saying,
“(F)Give praise to our God, all you His slaves, (G)you who fear Him, the small and the great.” 6 Then I heard something like (H)the voice of a great crowd and like (I)the sound of many waters and like the (J)sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying,
“(K)Hallelujah! For the (L)Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
7 Let us rejoice and be glad and (M)give the glory to Him, for (N)the marriage of the Lamb has come and His [a](O)bride has made herself ready.” 8 And it was given to her to clothe herself in (P)fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the (Q)righteous acts of the saints.
9 Then (R)he *said to me, “(S)Write, ‘(T)Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” And he *said to me, “(U)These are true words of God.” 10 Then (V)I fell at his feet to worship him. (W)But he *said to me, “[b]Do not do that! I am a (X)fellow slave with you and your brothers who (Y)have the witness of Jesus. Worship God! For the witness of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
The Rider on a White Horse
11 Then I saw (Z)heaven opened, and behold, a (AA)white horse, and He who sits on it is called (AB)Faithful and True, and in (AC)righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His (AD)eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many (AE)diadems; having a (AF)name written on Him which no one knows except Himself, 13 and being clothed with a (AG)garment dipped in blood, His name is also called (AH)The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in (AI)fine linen, (AJ)white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 (AK)And from His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may (AL)strike down the nations, and He will [c](AM)rule them with a rod of iron; and (AN)He treads the wine press of the wrath of the rage of God, the Almighty. 16 And He has on His garment and on His thigh (AO)a name written, “(AP)KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
29 On the next day, he *saw Jesus coming to him and *said, “Behold, (A)the Lamb of God who (B)takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is He of whom I said, ‘(C)After me comes a man who has been [a]ahead of me, (D)for He existed before me.’ 31 I did not know [b]Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing with water.” 32 And John (E)bore witness saying, “(F)I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He abided on Him. 33 And I did not know [c]Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘The One upon whom you see the Spirit descending and abiding on Him, (G)this is the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I myself have seen, and have borne witness that this is (H)the Son of God.”
