Book of Common Prayer
Do Not Forsake Me, O Yahweh
A Psalm of David. To bring to remembrance.
38 O Yahweh, (A)reprove me not in Your wrath,
And discipline me not in Your burning anger.
2 For Your (B)arrows have pressed deep into me,
And (C)Your hand has pressed down upon me.
3 There is (D)no soundness in my flesh (E)because of Your indignation;
There is no health (F)in my bones because of my sin.
4 For my (G)iniquities go over my head;
As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.
5 My [a]wounds stink and rot
Because of (H)my [b]folly.
6 I am bent over and (I)greatly bowed down;
I (J)go mourning all day long.
7 For my loins are filled with (K)burning,
And there is (L)no soundness in my flesh.
8 I am (M)faint and [c]badly crushed;
I [d](N)groan because of the [e]agitation of my heart.
9 Lord, all (O)my desire is [f]before You;
And my (P)sighing is not hidden from You.
10 My heart throbs, (Q)my strength forsakes me;
And the (R)light of my eyes, even [g]that [h]has gone from me.
11 My [i](S)loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague;
And my kinsmen (T)stand afar off.
12 Those who (U)search for my life (V)lay snares for me;
And those who (W)seek [j]to do me evil have [k]threatened destruction,
And they (X)meditate on deception all day long.
13 But I, like a deaf man, do not hear;
And I am like a (Y)mute man who does not open his mouth.
14 And I am like a man who does not hear,
And in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15 For (Z)I [l]wait on You, O Yahweh;
You (AA)will answer, O Lord my God.
16 For I said, “Save, lest they be glad over me,
Who, when my foot stumbles, (AB)magnify themselves against me.”
17 For I am (AC)ready to fall,
And (AD)my [m]sorrow is continually before me.
18 For I [n](AE)confess my iniquity;
I am full of (AF)anxiety because of my sin.
19 But my (AG)enemies are vigorous and [o]strong,
And those who wrongfully (AH)hate me abound.
20 And those who (AI)repay evil for good,
They (AJ)accuse me, for I pursue what is good.
21 Do not forsake me, O Yahweh;
O my God, (AK)do not be far from me!
22 Make (AL)haste to help me,
O Lord, (AM)my salvation!

25 My (A)soul clings to the dust;
(B)Revive me (C)according to Your word.
26 I have recounted my ways, and You have answered me;
(D)Teach me Your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts,
So I will (E)muse on Your wondrous deeds.
28 My (F)soul [a]weeps because of grief;
(G)Raise me up according to Your word.
29 Remove the false way from me,
And graciously grant me Your law.
30 I have chosen the faithful way;
I have [b]placed Your judgments before me.
31 I (H)cling to Your testimonies;
O Yahweh, do not put me to shame!
32 I shall run the way of Your commandments,
For You will (I)enlarge my heart.
He
33 (J)Instruct me, O Yahweh, in the way of Your statutes,
That I may observe it to the end.
34 (K)Cause me to understand, that I may (L)observe Your law
And keep it (M)with all my heart.
35 Cause me to walk in the (N)path of Your commandments,
For I (O)delight in it.
36 (P)Cause my heart to incline to Your testimonies
And not to (Q)dishonest gain.
37 Cause my (R)eyes to turn away from looking at worthlessness,
And (S)revive me in Your ways.
38 (T)Cause Your [c]word to be established for Your slave,
[d]As that which produces fear for You.
39 (U)Cause my reproach which I dread to pass away,
For Your judgments are good.
40 Behold, I (V)long for Your precepts;
Revive me in Your righteousness.

41 May Your (W)lovingkindnesses also come to me, O Yahweh,
Your salvation (X)according to Your [e]word;
42 So I will have an (Y)answer for him who (Z)reproaches me,
For I trust in Your word.
43 And do not take away the word of truth utterly from my mouth,
For I [f](AA)wait for Your judgments.
44 So I will (AB)keep Your law continually,
Forever and ever.
45 And I will (AC)walk in a wide place,
For I (AD)seek Your precepts.
46 I will also speak of Your testimonies (AE)before kings
And I shall not be ashamed.
47 I shall [g](AF)delight in Your commandments,
Which I (AG)love.
48 And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments,
Which I (AH)love;
And I will (AI)muse on Your statutes.

8 Yahweh [a]determined to bring to ruin
The wall of the daughter of Zion.
He has (A)stretched out a line;
He has not turned His hand back from swallowing up,
And He has (B)caused rampart and wall to mourn;
They have languished together.
Teth
9 Her (C)gates have sunk into the ground;
He has destroyed and broken her bars.
Her king and her princes are among the nations;
The (D)law is no more.
Also, her prophets find
(E)No vision from Yahweh.
Yodh
10 The elders of the daughter of Zion
(F)Sit on the ground; they (G)are silent.
They have thrown (H)dust up on their heads;
They have girded themselves with (I)sackcloth.
The (J)virgins of Jerusalem
Have bowed their heads down to the ground.

11 My (K)eyes fail because of tears;
My [b](L)inmost being is greatly disturbed;
My [c](M)heart is poured out on the earth
(N)Because of the [d]destruction of the daughter of my people,
When (O)infants and nursing babies faint
In the open squares of the city.
Lamedh
12 They say to their mothers,
“(P)Where is grain and wine?”
As they faint like a wounded man
In the open squares of the city,
As their (Q)life is poured out
On their mothers’ bosom.
Mem
13 What shall I testify about you?
To what (R)shall I equate you,
O daughter of Jerusalem?
To what shall I liken you as I comfort you,
O (S)virgin daughter of Zion?
For your [e]destruction is as vast as the sea;
Who can (T)heal you?
Nun
14 Your (U)prophets have beheld for you
Worthless and ineffective visions;
And they have not (V)uncovered your iniquity
So as to [f]return you from captivity,
But they have (W)beheld for you worthless and misleading [g]oracles.
Samekh
51 Behold, I tell you a (A)mystery: we will not all sleep, but we will all be (B)changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For (C)the trumpet will sound, and (D)the dead will be raised incorruptible, and (E)we will be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on (F)the incorruptible, and this (G)mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when this corruptible puts on the incorruptible, and this mortal puts on immortality, then will come about the word that is written, “(H)Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 (I)O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 Now the sting of (J)death is sin, and (K)the power of sin is the law; 57 but (L)thanks be to God, who gives us the (M)victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
58 (N)Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in (O)the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Lord of the Sabbath
12 (A)At that [a]time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to (B)pick the heads of grain and eat. 2 But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples do what (C)is not lawful to do on a Sabbath.” 3 But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions, 4 how he entered the house of God, and (D)they ate the [b]consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone? 5 Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple [c]break the Sabbath and are innocent? 6 But I say to you that something (E)greater than the temple is here. 7 But if you had known what this [d]means, ‘(F)I desire [e]compassion, and not a sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For (G)the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
Jesus Heals a Man on the Sabbath
9 (H)And departing from there, He went into their synagogue. 10 And behold, a man was there whose hand was withered. And they questioned [f]Jesus, saying, “(I)Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse Him. 11 And He said to them, “(J)What man [g]is there among you who has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 (K)How much more valuable then is a man than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do [h]good on the Sabbath.” 13 Then He *said to the man, “Stretch out your hand!” (L)He stretched it out, and it was restored to [i]normal, like the other. 14 But going out, the Pharisees (M)took counsel together against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.
