Book of Common Prayer
My Help Comes from Yahweh
A Song of Ascents.
121 I will (A)lift up my eyes to (B)the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
2 My (C)help comes from Yahweh,
Who (D)made heaven and earth.
3 [a]He will not (E)allow your foot to stumble;
[b]He who (F)keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel
Will not slumber and will not sleep.
5 Yahweh is your (G)keeper;
Yahweh is your (H)shade on your right hand.
6 The (I)sun will not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
7 Yahweh will (J)keep you from all evil;
He will keep your soul.
8 Yahweh will (K)keep your going out and your coming in
(L)From now until forever.
Go to the House of Yahweh
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
122 I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us (M)go to the house of Yahweh.”
2 Our feet are standing
Within your (N)gates, O Jerusalem,
3 Jerusalem, which is (O)built
As a city (P)joined altogether;
4 To which the tribes, the tribes of Yah, (Q)go up—
A testimony for Israel—
To give thanks to the name of Yahweh.
5 For there, (R)thrones sit for judgment,
The thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the (S)peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who (T)love you.
7 May peace be within your (U)walls,
And tranquility within your (V)palaces.”
8 For the sake of my (W)brothers and my friends,
I will now say, “(X)May peace be within you.”
9 For the sake of the house of Yahweh our God,
I will (Y)seek your good.
To You I Lift Up My Eyes
A Song of Ascents.
I Have Quieted My Soul
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
131 O Yahweh, my heart is not (A)exalted, and my eyes are not (B)raised high;
And I do not [a]involve myself in (C)great matters,
Or in matters (D)too marvelous for me.
2 Surely I have (E)soothed and quieted my soul,
Like a weaned (F)child with his mother,
Like a weaned child is my soul [b]within me.
3 O Israel, (G)wait for Yahweh
(H)From now until forever.
Yahweh Has Chosen Zion
A Song of Ascents.
132 Remember, O Yahweh, on David’s behalf,
All (I)his affliction;
2 How he swore to Yahweh
And vowed to (J)the Mighty One of Jacob,
3 “Surely I will not come into [c](K)my house,
Nor [d]lie in the [e]comfort of my bed;
4 I will not (L)give sleep to my eyes
Or slumber to my eyelids,
5 Until I find a (M)place for Yahweh,
[f]A dwelling place for (N)the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6 Behold, we heard of it in (O)Ephrathah,
We found it in the (P)fields of [g]Jaar.
7 Let us come into His [h](Q)dwelling place;
Let us (R)worship at the (S)footstool of His feet.
8 (T)Arise, O Yahweh, to Your (U)resting place,
You and the ark of Your (V)strength.
9 Let Your priests be (W)clothed with righteousness,
And let Your (X)holy ones sing for joy.
10 For the sake of David Your servant,
Do not turn away the face of Your (Y)anointed.
11 Yahweh has (Z)sworn to David
A truth from which He will not turn back:
“(AA)Of the fruit of your [i]body I will set upon your throne.
12 If your sons keep My covenant
And My testimony which I will teach them,
Their sons also shall (AB)sit upon your throne forever.”
13 For Yahweh has (AC)chosen Zion;
He has (AD)desired it for His habitation.
14 “This is My (AE)resting place forever;
Here I will (AF)inhabit, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly (AG)bless her provision;
I will (AH)satisfy her needy with bread.
16 Her (AI)priests also I will clothe with salvation,
And her (AJ)holy ones will sing loudly for joy.
17 There I will cause the (AK)horn of David to spring up;
I have prepared a (AL)lamp for Mine anointed.
18 His enemies I will (AM)clothe with shame,
But upon him, his (AN)crown shall blossom.”
Vengeance of Yahweh
63 Who is this who comes from (A)Edom,
With (B)garments of [a]glowing colors from (C)Bozrah,
This One who is majestic in His clothing,
[b]Marching in the greatness of His power?
“It is I who speak in righteousness, (D)mighty to save.”
2 Why is Your clothing red,
And Your garments like the one who (E)treads in the wine press?
3 “(F)I have trodden the wine trough alone,
And from the peoples there was no man with Me.
I also (G)trod them in My anger
And (H)trampled them in My wrath;
And (I)their [c]lifeblood is sprinkled on My garments,
And I [d]stained all My clothes.
4 For the (J)day of vengeance was in My heart,
And My year of redemption has come.
5 I looked, and there was (K)no one to help,
And I was astonished, and there was no one to uphold;
So My (L)own arm brought salvation to Me,
And My wrath upheld Me.
To the Church in Thyatira
18 “And to the angel of the church in (A)Thyatira write:
(B)This is what the Son of God, the One (C)who has [a]eyes like a flame of fire and His feet are like burnished bronze, says:
19 ‘(D)I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your last deeds are greater than [b]at first. 20 But (E)I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman (F)Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and deceives My slaves so that they (G)commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 (H)And I gave her time to repent, and she (I)does not wish to repent of her sexual immorality. 22 Behold, I will throw her [c]on a bed of sickness, and those who (J)commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of [d]her deeds. 23 And I will kill her children with [e]pestilence, and all the churches will know that I am He who (K)searches the [f]minds and hearts; and (L)I will give to each one of you according to your deeds. 24 But I say to you, the rest who are in (M)Thyatira, who do not have this teaching, who have not known the (N)deep things of Satan, as they call them—I (O)place no other burden on you. 25 Nevertheless (P)what you have, hold fast (Q)until I come. 26 (R)And he who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds (S)until the end, (T)to him I will give authority over the [g]nations; 27 and he shall [h](U)rule them with a rod of iron, (V)as the vessels of the potter are broken to pieces, as I also have received authority from My Father; 28 and I will give him (W)the morning star. 29 (X)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
The Healing at Bethesda
5 After these things there was (A)a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Now there is in Jerusalem by (B)the sheep gate a pool, which is called (C)in [a]Hebrew [b]Bethesda, having five porticoes. 3 In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, [c][waiting for the moving of the waters; 4 for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever sickness with which he was afflicted.] 5 And a man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been sick a long time, He *said to him, “Do you wish to get well?” 7 The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when (D)the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus *said to him, “(E)Get up, pick up your mat and walk.” 9 And immediately the man became well, and picked up his mat and began to walk.
(F)Now it was the Sabbath on that day. 10 So (G)the Jews were saying to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and (H)it is not lawful for you to carry your mat.” 11 But he answered them, “He who made me well was the one who said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’” 12 They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your mat and walk’?” 13 But the man who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away while there was a crowd in that place. 14 Afterward Jesus *found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well; do not (I)sin anymore, (J)so that nothing worse happens to you.” 15 The man went away, and disclosed to (K)the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
