Book of Common Prayer
I Will Praise Yahweh Throughout My Life
146 [a]Praise Yah!
(A)Praise Yahweh, O my soul!
2 I will praise Yahweh (B)throughout my life;
I will (C)sing praises to my God while I have my being.
3 (D)Do not trust in nobles,
In merely a son of (E)man, in whom there is (F)no salvation.
4 His (G)spirit departs, he (H)returns to [b]the earth;
In that very day his (I)plans perish.
5 How (J)blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose (K)hope is in Yahweh his God,
6 Who (L)made heaven and earth,
The (M)sea and all that is in them;
Who (N)keeps truth forever;
7 Who (O)does justice for the oppressed;
Who (P)gives food to the hungry.
Yahweh (Q)sets the prisoners free.
8 Yahweh (R)opens the eyes of the blind;
Yahweh (S)raises up those who are bowed down;
Yahweh (T)loves the righteous;
9 Yahweh (U)keeps the sojourners;
He [c](V)helps up the orphan and the widow,
But He bends (W)the way of the wicked.
10 Yahweh will (X)reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, [d]from generation to generation.
[e]Praise Yah!
He Heals the Brokenhearted
147 [f]Praise Yah!
For (Y)it is good to sing praises to our God;
For [g]it is pleasant and praise is (Z)becoming.
2 Yahweh (AA)builds up Jerusalem;
He (AB)gathers the [h]outcasts of Israel.
3 He is the One who heals the (AC)brokenhearted
And who (AD)binds up their [i]wounds,
4 Who (AE)counts the number of the stars;
He [j](AF)gives names to all of them.
5 (AG)Great is our Lord and abundant in power;
His (AH)discernment is [k]infinite.
6 Yahweh [l](AI)helps up the afflicted;
He brings down the wicked to the ground.
7 (AJ)Sing to Yahweh with thanksgiving;
Sing praises to our God on the lyre.
8 He is the One who (AK)covers the heavens with clouds,
The One who (AL)provides rain for the earth,
The One who (AM)makes grass to sprout on the mountains,
9 Who (AN)gives to the animal its food,
And to the (AO)young ravens which call out.
10 He does not delight in the might of the (AP)horse;
He (AQ)does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 Yahweh (AR)is pleased with those who fear Him,
(AS)Those who wait for His lovingkindness.
12 Laud Yahweh, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For He strengthened the (AT)bars of your gates;
He (AU)blessed your sons within you.
14 He is the One who (AV)sets [m]peace in your borders,
He (AW)satisfies you with (AX)the [n]finest of the wheat,
15 The One who sends forth His (AY)command to the earth;
His (AZ)word runs very swiftly,
16 The One who gives (BA)snow like wool;
He scatters the (BB)frost like ashes,
17 Who casts forth His (BC)ice as fragments;
Who can stand before His (BD)cold?
18 He (BE)sends forth His word and melts them;
He (BF)causes His wind to blow and so the waters flow,
19 Who (BG)declares His words to Jacob,
His (BH)statutes and His judgments to Israel.
20 He (BI)has not done so with any nation;
So as for His judgments, they have (BJ)not known them.
[o]Praise Yah!

[v]Praise Yah!
5 Then the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was changed toward the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” 6 So he made his chariot ready and took his people with him; 7 and he took six hundred choice chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them. 8 (A)And Yahweh [a]hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, with strength, and he pursued the sons of Israel as the sons of Israel were going out with an [b](B)exalted hand. 9 Then (C)the Egyptians pursued them with all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and they overtook them camping by the sea, (D)beside Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.
10 Now Pharaoh drew near, and the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they became very afraid; (E)so the sons of Israel cried out to Yahweh. 11 Then (F)they said to Moses, “Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What is this you have done against us in [c]bringing us out of Egypt? 12 (G)Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘[d]Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than for us to die in the wilderness.” 13 But Moses said to the people, “(H)Do not fear! [e]Stand by and see (I)the salvation of Yahweh which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. 14 (J)Yahweh will fight for you, and (K)you will keep silent.”
15 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Speak to the sons of Israel so that they go forward. 16 As for you, raise up (L)your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and split it, and the sons of Israel shall [f]go through the midst of the sea on dry land. 17 As for Me, behold, (M)I will [g]harden the hearts of the Egyptians with strength so that they will go in after them; and I will be glorified through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 (N)Then the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh, when I am glorified through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen.”
19 (O)Then the angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them. 20 So it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud [h]along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Thus the one did not come near the other all night.
21 (P)Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and Yahweh [i]swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea into (Q)dry ground, so (R)the waters were split. 22 (S)So the sons of Israel [j]went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and (T)the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
The Word of Life
1 What was (A)from the beginning, what we have (B)heard, what we have (C)seen with our eyes, what we (D)beheld and (E)touched with our hands, concerning the (F)Word of Life— 2 and (G)the life was manifested, and we have (H)seen and (I)bear witness and proclaim to you (J)the eternal life, which was (K)with the Father and was (L)manifested to us— 3 what we have (M)seen and (N)heard we proclaim to you also, so that you may also have fellowship with us; and indeed our (O)fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 (P)And these things we are writing, so that our (Q)joy may be made complete.
God Is Light
5 (R)And this is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you, that (S)God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 (T)If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we (U)lie and (V)do not do the truth; 7 but if we (W)walk in the Light as (X)He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and (Y)the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life
14 “(A)Do not let your heart be troubled; [a]believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for (B)I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, (C)I will come again and receive you to Myself, that (D)where I am, there you may be also. 4 And you know the way where I am going.” 5 (E)Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going. How do we know the way?” 6 Jesus *said to him, “I am (F)the way, and (G)the truth, and (H)the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.
Oneness with the Father
7 (I)If you have come to know Me, you will know My Father also; from now on you (J)know Him, and have (K)seen Him.”
