Psalm 117-118

Psalm 117[a]

117 Praise the Lord, all you nations.
Applaud him, all you foreigners.[b]
For his loyal love towers[c] over us,
and the Lord’s faithfulness endures.
Praise the Lord.

Psalm 118[d]

118 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
and his loyal love endures.[e]
Let Israel say,
“Yes, his loyal love endures.”
Let the family[f] of Aaron say,
“Yes, his loyal love endures.”
Let the loyal followers of the Lord[g] say,
“Yes, his loyal love endures.”
In my distress[h] I cried out to the Lord.
The Lord answered me and put me in a wide open place.[i]
The Lord is on my side;[j] I am not afraid.
What can people do to me?[k]
The Lord is on my side[l] as my helper.[m]
I look in triumph on those who hate me.
It is better to take shelter[n] in the Lord
than to trust in people.
It is better to take shelter in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
10 All the nations surrounded me.[o]
Indeed, in the name of the Lord[p] I pushed them away.[q]
11 They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me.
Indeed, in the name of the Lord I pushed them away.
12 They surrounded me like bees.
But they disappeared as quickly[r] as a fire among thorns.[s]
Indeed, in the name of the Lord I pushed them away.
13 “You aggressively attacked me[t] and tried to knock me down,[u]
but the Lord helped me.
14 The Lord gives me strength and protects me;[v]
he has become my deliverer.”[w]
15 They celebrate deliverance in the tents of the godly.[x]
The Lord’s right hand conquers.[y]
16 The Lord’s right hand gives victory;[z]
the Lord’s right hand conquers.
17 I will not die, but live,
and I will proclaim what the Lord has done.[aa]
18 The Lord severely[ab] punished me,
but he did not hand me over to death.
19 Open for me the gates of the just king’s temple.[ac]
I will enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.
20 This is the Lord’s gate—
the godly enter through it.
21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me,
and have become my deliverer.
22 The stone that the builders discarded[ad]
has become the cornerstone.[ae]
23 This is the Lord’s work.
We consider it amazing![af]
24 This is the day the Lord has brought about.[ag]
We will be happy and rejoice in it.
25 Please, Lord, deliver!
Please, Lord, grant us success![ah]
26 May the one who comes in the name of the Lord[ai] be blessed.
We will pronounce blessings on you[aj] in the Lord’s temple.[ak]
27 The Lord is God, and he has delivered us.[al]
Tie the offering[am] with ropes
to the horns of the altar.[an]
28 You are my[ao] God, and I will give you thanks.
You are my God and I will praise you.
29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good
and his loyal love endures.[ap]

Psalm 112-113

Psalm 112[a]

112 Praise the Lord!
How blessed is the one[b] who obeys[c] the Lord,
who takes great delight in keeping his commands.[d]
His descendants[e] will be powerful on the earth;
the godly[f] will be blessed.
His house contains wealth and riches;
his integrity endures.[g]
In the darkness a light[h] shines for the godly,
for each one who is merciful, compassionate, and just.[i]
It goes well for the one[j] who generously lends money,
and conducts his business honestly.[k]
For he will never be shaken;
others will always remember one who is just.[l]
He does not fear bad news.
He[m] is confident; he trusts in the Lord.
His resolve[n] is firm; he will not succumb to fear
before he looks in triumph on his enemies.
He generously gives[o] to the needy;
his integrity endures.[p]
He will be vindicated and honored.[q]
10 When the wicked[r] see this, they will worry;
they will grind their teeth in frustration[s] and melt away.
The desire of the wicked will perish.[t]

Psalm 113[u]

113 Praise the Lord.
Praise, you servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord.
May the Lord’s name be praised
now and forevermore.
From east to west[v]
the Lord’s name is deserving of praise.
The Lord is exalted over all the nations;
his splendor reaches beyond the sky.[w]
Who can compare to the Lord our God,
who sits on a high throne?[x]
He bends down to look[y]
at the sky and the earth.
He raises the poor from the dirt,
and lifts up the needy from the garbage pile,[z]
that he might seat him with princes,
with the princes of his people.
He makes the barren woman of the family[aa]
a happy mother of children.[ab]
Praise the Lord.

Isaiah 59:15-21

15 Honesty has disappeared;
the one who tries to avoid evil is robbed.
The Lord watches and is displeased,[a]
for there is no justice.

The Lord Intervenes

16 He sees there is no advocate;[b]
he is shocked[c] that no one intervenes.
So he takes matters into his own hands;[d]
his desire for justice drives him on.[e]
17 He wears his desire for justice[f] like body armor,[g]
and his desire to deliver is like a helmet on his head.[h]
He puts on the garments of vengeance[i]
and wears zeal like a robe.
18 He repays them for what they have done,
dispensing angry judgment to his adversaries
and punishing his enemies.[j]
He repays the coastlands.[k]
19 In the west, people respect[l] the Lord’s reputation;[m]
in the east they recognize his splendor.[n]
For he comes like a rushing[o] stream
driven on by wind sent from the Lord.[p]
20 “A protector[q] comes to Zion,
to those in Jacob who repent of their rebellious deeds,”[r] says the Lord.

21 “As for me, this is my promise to[s] them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is upon you, and my words, which I have placed in your mouth, will not depart from your mouth or from the mouths of your children and descendants from this time forward,”[t] says the Lord.

Revelation 2:8-17

To the Church in Smyrna

“To[a] the angel of the church in Smyrna write the following:[b]

“This is the solemn pronouncement of[c] the one who is the first and the last, the one who was dead, but[d] came to life: ‘I know the distress you are suffering[e] and your poverty (but you are rich). I also know[f] the slander against you[g] by those who call themselves Jews and really are not, but are a synagogue[h] of Satan. 10 Do not be afraid of the things you are about to suffer. The devil is about to have some of you thrown[i] into prison so you may be tested,[j] and you will experience suffering[k] for ten days. Remain faithful even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown that is life itself.[l] 11 The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers[m] will in no way be harmed by the second death.’

To the Church in Pergamum

12 “To[n] the angel of the church in Pergamum write the following:[o]

“This is the solemn pronouncement of[p] the one who has the sharp double-edged sword:[q] 13 ‘I know[r] where you live—where Satan’s throne is. Yet[s] you continue to cling[t] to my name and you have not denied your[u] faith in me,[v] even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness,[w] who was killed in your city[x] where Satan lives. 14 But I have a few things against you: You have some people there who follow the teaching of Balaam,[y] who instructed Balak to put a stumbling block[z] before the people[aa] of Israel so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.[ab] 15 In the same way, there are also some among you who follow the teaching of the Nicolaitans.[ac] 16 Therefore,[ad] repent! If not, I will come against you quickly and make war against those people[ae] with the sword of my mouth. 17 The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers,[af] I will give him some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white[ag] stone,[ah] and on that stone will be written a new name that no one can understand[ai] except the one who receives it.’

John 4:46-54

Healing the Royal Official’s Son

46 Now he came again to Cana in Galilee where he had made the water wine.[a] In[b] Capernaum[c] there was a certain royal official[d] whose son was sick. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come back from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and begged him[e] to come down and heal his son, who was about to die. 48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people[f] see signs and wonders you will never believe!”[g] 49 “Sir,” the official said to him, “come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus told him, “Go home;[h] your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and set off for home.[i]

51 While he was on his way down,[j] his slaves[k] met him and told him that his son was going to live. 52 So he asked them the time[l] when his condition began to improve,[m] and[n] they told him, “Yesterday at one o’clock in the afternoon[o] the fever left him.” 53 Then the father realized that it was the very time[p] Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live,” and he himself believed along with his entire household. 54 Jesus did this as his second miraculous sign[q] when he returned from Judea to Galilee.
