獻給提阿費羅
1 提阿費羅大人哪，既然有許多人著手編錄關於在我們中間所成就的事， 2 就是照著從起初以來的目擊者和做福音[a]僕人的那些人所傳給我們的， 3 我也已經從頭仔細地追蹤了這一切，我就認為應該按著次序寫給您， 4 好讓您了解到您所領受的話語都是確實的。

使徒行傳 1:1-8
引言
1 提阿費羅大人[a]哪，在前一卷書[b]中，我確實寫了有關耶穌開始做的和教導的一切事， 2 一直到他藉著聖靈吩咐了他所揀選的使徒們之後，被接升天的那一天為止。 3 耶穌受難之後，用很多確據向這些人顯明自己是活著的。他在四十天的時間裡向他們顯現，並且講說有關神國的事。
應許賜聖靈
4 耶穌和他們聚集的時候，吩咐他們說：「不要離開耶路撒冷，而要等候父所應許的，就是你們從我聽到的， 5 因為約翰是用水[c]施洗[d]，但過不了多少日子，你們就要受聖靈的洗。」
6 於是聚集的時候，他們就問耶穌說：「主啊！你復興以色列國，是否在這時候呢？」
7 耶穌對他們說：「父憑著自己的權柄所定的時候和日期，不是你們可以知道的。 8 不過聖靈臨到你們的時候，你們將得著能力，並且要在耶路撒冷，在猶太和撒馬利亞全地，直到地極，做我的見證人。」
