Psalm 40

The One Who Rescues Me

For the choir director. Of David. A Psalm.

40 I (A)hoped [a]earnestly for Yahweh;
And He inclined to me and (B)heard my cry for help.
He brought me up out of the (C)pit of destruction, out of the [b]miry clay,
And (D)He set my feet upon a high rock, (E)He established my steps.
He put a (F)new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will (G)see and fear
And will trust in Yahweh.

How (H)blessed is the man who has made Yahweh his trust,
And (I)has not [c]turned to the proud, nor to those who (J)stray into falsehood.
Many, O Yahweh my God, are (K)the wondrous deeds You have done,
And Your (L)thoughts toward us;
There is none to compare with You.
I would declare and speak of them,
But they (M)are too numerous to recount.

[d](N)Sacrifice and meal offering [e]You have not desired;
My ears You have [f]opened;
Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required.
Then I said, “Behold, I come;
In the scroll of the book it is [g]written of me.
(O)I desire to do Your will, O my God;
(P)Your law is within my inner being.”

I (Q)proclaim good news of righteousness in the great assembly;
Behold, I do (R)not restrain my lips,
O Yahweh, (S)You know.
10 I do (T)not conceal Your righteousness within my heart;
I (U)speak of Your faithfulness and Your salvation;
I do not hide Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly.

11 You, O Yahweh, will not withhold Your compassion from me;
[h]Your (V)lovingkindness and Your truth will continually guard me.
12 For evils beyond number have (W)surrounded me;
My (X)iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see;
They are (Y)more numerous than the hairs of my head,
And my (Z)heart has [i]failed me.

13 (AA)Be pleased, O Yahweh, to deliver me;
Make (AB)haste, O Yahweh, to help me.
14 Let those be (AC)ashamed and humiliated together
Who (AD)seek my [j]life to sweep it away;
Let those be turned back and dishonored
Who delight in [k]evil against me.
15 Let those (AE)be [l]appalled because of their shame
Who (AF)say to me, “Aha, aha!”
16 (AG)Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
Let those who love Your salvation (AH)say continually,
“Yahweh be magnified!”
17 As for me, (AI)I am afflicted and needy,
[m](AJ)May the Lord think of me.
You are my help and the One who rescues me;
Do not delay, O my God.

Psalm 54

God Is My Helper

For the choir director. With stringed instruments. A [a]Maskil of David. [b]When the Ziphites came and said to Saul, “Is not David hiding himself among us?”

54 O God, save me by (A)Your name,
And render justice to me by (B)Your might.
(C)O God, hear my prayer;
(D)Give ear to the words of my mouth.
For strangers have (E)risen against me
And (F)ruthless men have (G)sought my [c]life;
They have (H)not set God before them. [d]Selah.

Behold, (I)God is my helper;
The Lord is among those who (J)sustain my soul.
He will (K)return the evil to my foes;
(L)Destroy them (M)in Your truth.

(N)With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to You;
I will give (O)thanks to Your name, O Yahweh, for it is good.
For [e]He has (P)delivered me from all [f]distress,
And my eye has (Q)looked in triumph upon my enemies.

Psalm 51

Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God

For the choir director. A Psalm of David. When [a]Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

51 (A)Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the abundance of (B)Your compassion (C)blot out my transgressions.
(D)Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And (E)cleanse me from my sin.
For [b]I (F)know my transgressions,
And my sin is ever before me.
(G)Against You, You only, I have sinned
And done what is (H)evil in Your sight,
So that (I)You [c]are justified [d]when You speak
And pure when You judge.

Behold, I was (J)brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
Behold, You delight in (K)truth in the [e]innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will (L)make me know wisdom.
[f]Purify me (M)with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
[g]Wash me, and I shall be (N)whiter than snow.
[h]Make me to hear (O)joy and gladness,
Let the (P)bones which You have crushed rejoice.
(Q)Hide Your face from my sins
And blot out all my iniquities.

10 (R)Create [i]in me a (S)clean heart, O God,
And renew [j]a (T)steadfast spirit within me.
11 (U)Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your (V)Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the (W)joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a (X)willing spirit.
13 Then I will (Y)teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners will [k]be (Z)converted to You.

14 Deliver me from (AA)bloodguiltiness, O God, (AB)the God of my salvation;
Then my (AC)tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, [l](AD)open my lips,
That my mouth may (AE)declare Your praise.
16 For You (AF)do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a (AG)broken spirit;
A broken and a [m]contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

18 (AH)By Your favor do good to Zion;
[n](AI)Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You will delight in [o](AJ)righteous sacrifices,
In (AK)burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then [p]young bulls will be offered on Your altar.

Genesis 17:15-27

Sarah Will Bear Isaac

15 Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but [a]Sarah shall be her name. 16 And I will bless her, and indeed I will give you (A)a son by her. Then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; (B)kings of peoples will [b]come from her.” 17 Then Abraham (C)fell on his face and laughed and said in his heart, “Will a son be born to a man one hundred years old? And (D)will Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a son?” 18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before You!” 19 But God said, “No, but Sarah your wife will bear you (E)a son, and you shall call his name [c]Isaac; and (F)I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him. 20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him and (G)will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly. (H)He shall [d]become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a (I)great nation. 21 But My covenant I will establish with (J)Isaac, whom (K)Sarah will bear to you at this season next year.” 22 So He finished talking with him, and (L)God went up from Abraham.

23 Then Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all who were (M)born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s household, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the very same day, (N)as God had spoken with him. 24 Now Abraham was ninety-nine years old when (O)he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 25 And (P)Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 26 In the very same day Abraham was circumcised, and Ishmael his son. 27 Now all the men of his household, who were (Q)born in the house or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

Hebrews 10:11-25

11 And every priest stands daily ministering and (A)offering time after time the same sacrifices, which (B)can never take away sins; 12 but He, having offered one sacrifice (C)for [a]sins (D)for all time, (E)sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time (F)until His enemies are put as a footstool for His feet. 14 For by one offering He has (G)perfected (H)for all time those who are being sanctified. 15 And (I)the Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,

16 (J)This is the covenant that I will make with them
After those days, says the [b]Lord:
I will put My laws upon their heart,
And on their mind I will write them,”

He then says,

17 (K)And their sins and their lawless deeds
I will remember no more.”

18 Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.

A New and Living Way

19 Therefore, brothers, since we (L)have confidence to (M)enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by (N)a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through (O)the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and since we have (P)a great priest (Q)over the house of God, 22 let us (R)draw near with a [c]sincere heart in (S)full assurance of faith, having our hearts (T)sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies (U)washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the (V)confession of our (W)hope without wavering, for (X)He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how (Y)to stimulate one another to love and (Z)good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own (AA)assembling together, as is the habit of some, but (AB)encouraging one another, and all the more as you see (AC)the day drawing near.

John 6:1-15

Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

After these things (A)Jesus went away to the other side of (B)the Sea of Galilee (or (C)Tiberias). Now a large crowd was following Him, because they were seeing the [a](D)signs which He was doing on those who were sick. Then (E)Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He was sitting down with His disciples. Now (F)the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near. Therefore Jesus, lifting up His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him, *said to (G)Philip, “Where should we buy bread, so that these people may eat?” And this He was saying to (H)test him, for He Himself knew what He was going to do. (I)Philip answered Him, “(J)Two hundred [b]denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, for everyone to receive a little.” One of His (K)disciples, (L)Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, *said to Him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two (M)fish, but what are these for so many people?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people [c]sit down.” Now there was (N)much grass in the place. So the men [d]sat down, in number about (O)five thousand. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and (P)having given thanks, He distributed them to those who were seated; likewise also of the (Q)fish, as much as they wanted. 12 And when they were filled, He *said to His (R)disciples, “Gather up the leftover pieces so that nothing will be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up, and filled twelve (S)baskets with pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. 14 Therefore when the people saw the [e]sign which He had done, they were saying, “This is truly the (T)Prophet who is to come into the world.”

Jesus Walks on the Sea

15 So Jesus, knowing that they were going to come and take Him by force (U)to make Him king, (V)withdrew again to (W)the mountain by Himself alone.
