Psalm 31

31 1 David delivered from some great danger, first rehearseth what meditation he had by the power of faith, when death was before his eyes, his enemy being ready to take him. 15 Then he affirmeth that the favor of God is always ready to those that fear him. 20 Finally he exhorteth all the faithful to trust in God and to love him, because he preserveth and strengtheneth them, as they may see by his example.

To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.

In (A)thee, O Lord, have I put my trust: let me never be confounded: deliver me in thy [a]righteousness.

Bow down thine ear to me: make haste to deliver me: be unto me a strong rock, and an house of defense to save me.

For thou art my rock and my fortress: therefore for thy Name’s sake direct me and guide me.

Draw me out of the [b]net, that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.

Into thine [c]hand I commend my spirit: for thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.

I have hated them that give themselves to deceitful vanities: for I [d]trust in the Lord.

I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast seen my trouble: thou hast known my soul in adversities,

And thou hast not shut me up in the hand of the enemy, but hast set my feet at [e]large.

Have mercy upon me, O Lord: for I am in trouble: mine [f]eye, my soul and my belly are consumed with grief.

10 For my life is wasted with heaviness, and my years with mourning: my strength faileth for my pain, and my bones are consumed.

11 I was a [g]reproach among all mine enemies, but specially among my neighbors: and a fear to mine acquaintance, [h]who seeing me in the street, fled from me.

12 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.

13 For I have heard the railing of [i]great men: fear was on every side, while they conspired together against me, and consulted to take my life.

14 But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, [j]Thou art my God.

15 My [k]times are in thine hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

16 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: and save me through thy mercy.

17 Let me not be confounded, O Lord: for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be put to confusion, and to [l]silence in the grave.

18 Let the lying lips be made dumb, which cruelly, proudly, and spitefully speak against the righteous.

19 How great is thy goodness, which thou [m]hast laid up for them that fear thee! and done to them that trust in thee, even before the sons of men!

20 Thou dost hide them [n][o]privily in thy presence from the pride of men: thou keepest them secretly in thy Tabernacle from the strife of tongues.

21 Blessed be the Lord: for he hath showed his marvelous kindness toward me in a [p]strong city.

22 Though I said in mine [q]haste, I am cast out of thy sight, yet thou heardest the voice of my prayer, when I cried unto thee.

23 Love ye the Lord all his [r]Saints: for the Lord preserveth the faithful, and rewardeth abundantly the proud doer.

24 All ye that trust in the Lord, be [s]strong, and he shall establish your heart.

Psalm 35

35 1 So long as Saul was enemy to David, all that had any authority under him, to flatter their king (as is the course of the world) did also most cruelly persecute David: against whom he prayeth God to plead and to avenge his cause, 8 that they may be taken in their nets and snares, which they laid for him, that his innocency may be declared, 27 and that the innocent, which taketh part with him, may rejoice and praise the Name of the Lord, that thus delivereth his servant. 28 And so he promiseth to speak forth the justice of the Lord, and to magnify his Name all the days of his life.

A Psalm of David.

Plead thou my [a]cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight thou against them that fight against me.

[b]Lay hand upon the shield and buckler, and stand up for my help.

Bring out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me, say unto my [c]soul, I am thy salvation.

Let them be confounded and put to shame, that seek after my soul: let them be turned back, and brought to confusion, that imagine mine hurt.

Let them be as chaff before the wind, and let the Angel of the Lord [d]scatter them.

Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the Angel of the Lord persecute them.

For [e]without cause they have hid the pit and their net for me: without cause have they dug a pit for my soul.

Let destruction come upon [f]him at unawares, and let his net, that he hath laid privily, take him: let him fall into [g]the same destruction.

Then my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation.

10 All my [h]bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him, that is too strong for him! yea, the poor and him that is in misery, from him that spoileth him!

11 [i]Cruel witnesses did rise up: they asked of me things that I knew not.

12 They rewarded me evil for good, to [j]have spoiled my soul.

13 Yet I, when they were sick, I was clothed with a sack: I humbled my soul with fasting: and [k]my prayer was turned upon my bosom.

14 I behaved myself as to my friend, or as to my brother: I humbled myself, mourning as one that bewaileth his mother.

15 But in mine [l]adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: the abjects assembled themselves against me, and I knew not: they tare [m]me, and ceased not,

16 With the false scoffers at [n]banquets, gnashing their teeth against me.

17 Lord, how long wilt thou behold this? deliver my soul from their tumult, even my desolate soul from the lions.

18 So will I give thee thanks in a great Congregation: I will praise thee among much people.

19 Let not them that are mine enemies unjustly rejoice over me, neither let them [o]wink with the eye, that hate me without a cause.

20 For they speak not as friends: but they imagine deceitful words against the [p]quiet of the land.

21 And they gaped on me with their mouths, saying, Aha, aha, [q]our eye hath seen.

22 Thou hast seen it, O Lord: keep not silence: be not far from me, O Lord.

23 Arise and wake to my judgment, even to my cause, my God, and my Lord.

24 Judge me, O Lord my God, according to thy [r]righteousness, and let them not rejoice over me.

25 Let them not say in their hearts, [s]O our soul rejoice: neither let them say, We have devoured him.

26 Let them be confounded, and put to shame [t]together, that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed [u]with confusion and shame, that lift up themselves against me.

27 But let them be joyful and glad, [v]that love my righteousness: yea, let them say always, Let the Lord be magnified, which loveth the [w]prosperity of his servant.

28 And my tongue shall utter thy righteousness, and thy praise every day.

1 Samuel 21

21 1 David fleeth to Nob to Ahimelech the Priest. 6 He getteth of him the showbread to satisfy his hunger. 7 Doeg Saul’s servant was present. 10 David fleeth to King Achish, 13 and there feigneth himself mad.

Then came David to [a]Nob, to Ahimelech the Priest, and Ahimelech was astonied at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

And David said to Ahimelech the Priest, The [b]King hath commanded me a certain thing, and hath said unto me, Let no man know whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such places.

Now therefore if thou hast ought under thine hand, give me five cakes of bread, or what cometh to hand.

And the Priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but here is (A)hallowed bread, if the young men have kept themselves, at least from [c]women.

David then answered the Priest, and said unto him, Certainly women have been separate from us these two or three days since I came out: and the [d]vessels of the young men were holy, though the way were profane, and how much more then shall every one [e]be sanctified this day in the vessel?

So the Priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there, save the showbread that was taken from before the Lord, to put hot bread there, the day that it was taken away.

(And there was the same day one of the servants of Saul [f]abiding before the Lord, named Doeg the Edomite, the [g]chiefest of Saul’s herdmen.)

And David said unto Ahimelech, Is there not here under thine hand a spear or a sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor mine harness with me, because the king’s business required haste.

And the Priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the (B)valley of Elah, behold, it is wrapped in a cloth behind the [h]Ephod: if thou wilt take that to thee, take it: for there is none other save that here: And David said, There is none to that, give it me.

10 And David arose and fled the same day from the [i]presence of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

11 And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the (C)King of the land? did they not sing unto him in dances, saying, (D)Saul hath slain his thousand, and David his ten thousand?

12 And David [j]considered these words, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

13 And he changed his behavior before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and [k]scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

14 Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is beside himself, wherefore have ye brought him to me?

15 Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? [l]shall he come into mine house?

Acts 13:13-25

13 [a]Now when Paul and they that were with him were departed by ship from Paphos, they came to Perga a city of Pamphylia: then John departed from them, and returned to Jerusalem.

14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch a city of [b]Pisidia, and went into the Synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down.

15 [c]And after the lecture of the Law and Prophets, the rulers of the Synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye [d]have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

16 [e]Then Paul stood up and beckoned with the hand, and said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hearken.

17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and [f]exalted the people when they dwelt in the land of (A)Egypt, and with an (B)[g]high arm brought them out thereof.

18 And about the time (C)of forty years, suffered he their manners in the wilderness.

19 And he destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, and (D)divided their land to them by lot.

20 Then afterward he gave unto them (E)Judges about [h]four hundred and fifty years, unto the time of Samuel the Prophet.

21 So after that, they desired a (F)King, and God gave unto them (G)Saul, the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of [i]forty years.

22 And after he had taken him away, he raised up (H)David to be their King, of whom he witnessed, saying, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which will do all things that I will.

23 [j]Of this man’s seed hath God (I)according to his promise raised up to Israel, the Savior Jesus:

24 When (J)John had first preached [k]before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

25 And when John had fulfilled his course, he said, (K)Whom ye think that I am, I am not he: but behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoe of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

Mark 3:7-19

But Jesus avoided with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude followed him from Galilee, and from Judea,

And from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and [a]beyond Jordan: and they that dwelled about Tyre and Sidon, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him in great number.

And he commanded his disciples, that a little ship should [b]wait for him, because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.

10 For he had healed many, insomuch that they pressed upon him to touch him, as many as had [c]plagues.

11 And when the [d]unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

12 And he sharply rebuked them, to the end they should not utter him.

13 (A)Then he went up into a mountain, and called unto him whom he would, and they came unto him.

14 [e]And he [f]appointed twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them to preach.

15 And that they might have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:

16 And the first was Simon, and he named Simon, Peter,

17 Then James the son of Zebedee, and John James’ brother (and surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder.)

18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and [g]Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,

19 And Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him, and they came [h]home.
