I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.
  10. “If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave and they had sons or daughters, then only the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master.
  11. But the slave may declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I don’t want to go free.’
  12. My anger will blaze against you, and I will kill you with the sword. Then your wives will be widows and your children fatherless.
  13. I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.”
