  174. The Valley of Slaughter

    “For the sons of Judah have done evil in my sight, declares the Lord. They have set their detestable things in the house that is called by my name, to defile it.
  175. There is none like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is great in might.
  176. Not like these is he who is the portion of Jacob, for he is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the Lord of hosts is his name.

    Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”

  216. “As I live, declares the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts, like Tabor among the mountains and like Carmel by the sea, shall one come.
  217. The destroyer of Moab and his cities has come up, and the choicest of his young men have gone down to slaughter, declares the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.
  218. Grieve for him, all you who are around him, and all who know his name; say, ‘How the mighty scepter is broken, the glorious staff.’
  219. Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name. He will surely plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, but unrest to the inhabitants of Babylon.
  220. Not like these is he who is the portion of Jacob, for he is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the Lord of hosts is his name.
  221. I will make drunk her officials and her wise men, her governors, her commanders, and her warriors; they shall sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake, declares the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.
  222. The Fall of Jerusalem Recounted

    Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
  223. “I called on your name, O Lord, from the depths of the pit;
  224. But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made myself known to them in bringing them out of the land of Egypt.
  225. But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.
  226. But I withheld my hand and acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.
  227. (I said to them, ‘What is the high place to which you go?’ So its name is called Bamah to this day.)
  228. “As for you, O house of Israel, thus says the Lord God: Go serve every one of you his idols, now and hereafter, if you will not listen to me; but my holy name you shall no more profane with your gifts and your idols.
  229. And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I deal with you for my name's sake, not according to your evil ways, nor according to your corrupt deeds, O house of Israel, declares the Lord God.”
  230. Those who are near and those who are far from you will mock you; your name is defiled; you are full of tumult.
  231. Oholah was the name of the elder and Oholibah the name of her sister. They became mine, and they bore sons and daughters. As for their names, Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem.
  232. “Son of man, write down the name of this day, this very day. The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.
  233. The Lord's Concern for His Holy Name

    The word of the Lord came to me:
  234. But when they came to the nations, wherever they came, they profaned my holy name, in that people said of them, ‘These are the people of the Lord, and yet they had to go out of his land.’
  235. But I had concern for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they came.
  236. I Will Put My Spirit Within You

    “Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came.
  237. And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Lord God, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.
  238. “And my holy name I will make known in the midst of my people Israel, and I will not let my holy name be profaned anymore. And the nations shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel.
  239. (Hamonah is also the name of the city.) Thus shall they cleanse the land.
  240. The Lord Will Restore Israel

    “Therefore thus says the Lord God: Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for my holy name.
  241. and he said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the people of Israel forever. And the house of Israel shall no more defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoring and by the dead bodies of their kings at their high places,
  242. by setting their threshold by my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with only a wall between me and them. They have defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed, so I have consumed them in my anger.
  243. “These are the names of the tribes: Beginning at the northern extreme, beside the way of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath, as far as Hazar-enan (which is on the northern border of Damascus over against Hamath), and extending from the east side to the west, Dan, one portion.
  244. three gates, the gate of Reuben, the gate of Judah, and the gate of Levi, the gates of the city being named after the tribes of Israel.
  245. The circumference of the city shall be 18,000 cubits. And the name of the city from that time on shall be, The Lord Is There.”
  246. And the chief of the eunuchs gave them names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.
  247. Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might.
  248. The king declared to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream that I have seen and its interpretation?”
  249. At last Daniel came in before me—he who was named Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods—and I told him the dream, saying,
  250. Daniel Interprets the Second Dream

    Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was dismayed for a while, and his thoughts alarmed him. The king answered and said, “Belteshazzar, let not the dream or the interpretation alarm you.” Belteshazzar answered and said, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you and its interpretation for your enemies!
  251. because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.”
  252. in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, perceived in the books the number of years that, according to the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet, must pass before the end of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years.
  253. We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
  254. And now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and have made a name for yourself, as at this day, we have sinned, we have done wickedly.
  255. O my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations, and the city that is called by your name. For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy.
  256. O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.”
  257. Daniel's Terrifying Vision of a Man

    In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar. And the word was true, and it was a great conflict. And he understood the word and had understanding of the vision.
  258. The Time of the End

    “At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book.
  259. And the Lord said to him, “Call his name Jezreel, for in just a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.
  260. She conceived again and bore a daughter. And the Lord said to him, “Call her name No Mercy, for I will no more have mercy on the house of Israel, to forgive them at all.
  261. And the Lord said, “Call his name Not My People, for you are not my people, and I am not your God.”
  262. For I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they shall be remembered by name no more.
  263. the Lord, the God of hosts, the Lord is his memorial name:
  264. “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame.
  265. And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the Lord calls.
  266. those who trample the head of the poor into the dust of the earth and turn aside the way of the afflicted; a man and his father go in to the same girl, so that my holy name is profaned;
  267. For behold, he who forms the mountains and creates the wind, and declares to man what is his thought, who makes the morning darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth— the Lord, the God of hosts, is his name!
  268. He who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns deep darkness into the morning and darkens the day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the Lord is his name;
  269. and I will send you into exile beyond Damascus,” says the Lord, whose name is the God of hosts.
  270. And when one's relative, the one who anoints him for burial, shall take him up to bring the bones out of the house, and shall say to him who is in the innermost parts of the house, “Is there still anyone with you?” he shall say, “No”; and he shall say, “Silence! We must not mention the name of the Lord.”
  271. who builds his upper chambers in the heavens and founds his vault upon the earth; who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out upon the surface of the earth— the Lord is his name.
  272. that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations who are called by my name,” declares the Lord who does this.
  273. For all the peoples walk each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.
  274. And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth.
  275. Destruction of the Wicked

    The voice of the Lord cries to the city— and it is sound wisdom to fear your name: “Hear of the rod and of him who appointed it!
  276. The Lord has given commandment about you: “No more shall your name be perpetuated; from the house of your gods I will cut off the carved image and the metal image. I will make your grave, for you are vile.”
  277. “I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off from this place the remnant of Baal and the name of the idolatrous priests along with the priests,
  278. The Conversion of the Nations

    “For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples to a pure speech, that all of them may call upon the name of the Lord and serve him with one accord.
  279. But I will leave in your midst a people humble and lowly. They shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord,
  280. I will send it out, declares the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter the house of the thief, and the house of him who swears falsely by my name. And it shall remain in his house and consume it, both timber and stones.”
  281. And say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord.
  282. I will make them strong in the Lord, and they shall walk in his name,” declares the Lord.
  283. So I became the shepherd of the flock doomed to be slaughtered by the sheep traders. And I took two staffs, one I named Favor, the other I named Union. And I tended the sheep.
  284. Idolatry Cut Off

    “And on that day, declares the Lord of hosts, I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, so that they shall be remembered no more. And also I will remove from the land the prophets and the spirit of uncleanness.
  285. And if anyone again prophesies, his father and mother who bore him will say to him, ‘You shall not live, for you speak lies in the name of the Lord.’ And his father and mother who bore him shall pierce him through when he prophesies.
  286. And I will put this third into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are my people’; and they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”
  287. And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.
  288. The Priests' Polluted Offerings

    “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. But you say, ‘How have we despised your name?’
  289. For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering. For my name will be great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts.
  290. Cursed be the cheat who has a male in his flock, and vows it, and yet sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished. For I am a great King, says the Lord of hosts, and my name will be feared among the nations.
  291. If you will not listen, if you will not take it to heart to give honor to my name, says the Lord of hosts, then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have already cursed them, because you do not lay it to heart.
  292. My covenant with him was one of life and peace, and I gave them to him. It was a covenant of fear, and he feared me. He stood in awe of my name.
  293. The Book of Remembrance

    Then those who feared the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the Lord and esteemed his name.
  294. But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.
  295. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
  296. “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).

    King Herod heard of it, for Jesus' name had become known. Some said, “John the Baptist has been raised from the dead. That is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.”

    The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”

  348. Martha and Mary

    Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.
  349. And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.
  350. Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

    Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man,
  358. On the Road to Emmaus

    That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,
  359. Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
  360. and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
  361. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
  362. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
  363. Jesus Knows What Is in Man

    Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing.
  364. You Must Be Born Again

    Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
  365. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
  366. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
  367. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

  373. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
  374. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
  375. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.
  376. In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.
  377. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
  378. In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf;
  379. “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
  380. And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.
  381. While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
  382. I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
  383. Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.)
  384. but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
  385. And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’
  386. And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  387. But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”
  388. And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.

  390. let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well.

  392. But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.”
  393. So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.

  395. Ananias and Sapphira

    But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property,
  396. saying, “We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us.”
  397. But a Pharisee in the council named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in honor by all the people, stood up and gave orders to put the men outside for a little while.
  398. and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
  399. Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.
  400. Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.
  401. Simon the Magician Believes

    But there was a man named Simon, who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was somebody great.
  402. But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
  403. for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
  404. Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.”
  405. And the Lord said to him, “Rise and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying,
  406. and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight.”
  407. And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name.”
  408. But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel.
  409. For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”
  410. And all who heard him were amazed and said, “Is not this the man who made havoc in Jerusalem of those who called upon this name? And has he not come here for this purpose, to bring them bound before the chief priests?”
  411. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles and declared to them how on the road he had seen the Lord, who spoke to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus.
  412. So he went in and out among them at Jerusalem, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord.
  413. There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed.
  414. Dorcas Restored to Life

    Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity.
  415. Peter and Cornelius

    At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort,
  416. To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
  417. And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.
  418. And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius).
  419. When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.
  420. And when he knocked at the door of the gateway, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer.
  421. And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had completed their service, bringing with them John, whose other name was Mark.
  422. When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus.
  423. But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.
  424. Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name.
  425. that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these things
  426. men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  427. Timothy Joins Paul and Silas

    Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek.
  428. One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.
  429. And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.
  430. But some men joined him and believed, among whom also were Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris and others with them.
  431. And he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. And he went to see them,
  432. And he left there and went to the house of a man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God. His house was next door to the synagogue.
  433. But since it is a matter of questions about words and names and your own law, see to it yourselves. I refuse to be a judge of these things.”
  434. Apollos Speaks Boldly in Ephesus

    Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures.
  435. On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
  436. Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.”
  437. Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this.
  438. And this became known to all the residents of Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks. And fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was extolled.
  439. For a man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little business to the craftsmen.
  440. And a young man named Eutychus, sitting at the window, sank into a deep sleep as Paul talked still longer. And being overcome by sleep, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.
  441. While we were staying for many days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.
  442. Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”
  443. And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’
  444. “I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things in opposing the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
  445. Paul Sails for Rome

    And when it was decided that we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan Cohort named Julius.
  446. Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us and entertained us hospitably for three days.
  447. through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,
  448. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
  449. For, as it is written, “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”
  450. and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”
  451. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
  452. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
  453. and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name.”
  454. and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else's foundation,
  455. To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:
  456. Divisions in the Church

    I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.
  457. Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
  458. so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name.
  459. When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus,
  460. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.
  461. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
  462. far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
  463. from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
  464. But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.
  465. giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
  466. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
  467. so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
  468. Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.
  469. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
  470. so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
  471. Warning Against Idleness

    Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us.
  472. Let all who are under a yoke as bondservants regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled.
  473. But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”
  474. having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
  475. But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
  476. saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”
  477. For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.
  478. and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace.
  479. Jesus Compared to Melchizedek

    Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron?
  480. of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”
  481. Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
  482. Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called?
  483. As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
  484. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
  485. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
  486. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.
  487. I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name's sake.
  488. And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.
  489. That You May Know

    I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
  490. For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.
  491. Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends, each by name.
  492. I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary.
  493. “‘I know where you dwell, where Satan's throne is. Yet you hold fast my name, and you did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.
  494. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.’
  495. Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.
  496. The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.
  497. “‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.
  498. The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.
  499. And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth.
  500. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many people died from the water, because it had been made bitter.
