The Creation of the World
1 In the (A)beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was (B)without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 And God said, (C)“Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
6 And God said, (D)“Let there be an expanse[a] in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7 And God made[b] the expanse and (E)separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were (F)above the expanse. And it was so. 8 And God called the expanse Heaven.[c] And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
9 And God said, (G)“Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry land Earth,[d] and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
11 And God said, (H)“Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants[e] yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. 12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for (I)signs and for (J)seasons,[f] and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16 And God (K)made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 to (L)rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.
20 And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds[g] fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” 21 So (M)God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, (N)“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.
24 And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. 25 And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, (O)“Let us make man[h] in our image, (P)after our likeness. And (Q)let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
(R)male and female he created them.
28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, (S)“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. (T)You shall have them for food. 30 And (U)to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31 (V)And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

14 神说：“天上要有光体，可以分昼夜，做记号，定节令、日子、年岁， 15 并要发光在天空，普照在地上。”事就这样成了。 16 于是神造了两个大光，大的管昼，小的管夜，又造众星。 17 就把这些光摆列在天空，普照在地上， 18 管理昼夜，分别明暗。神看着是好的。 19 有晚上，有早晨，是第四日。
20 神说：“水要多多滋生有生命的物，要有雀鸟飞在地面以上、天空之中。” 21 神就造出大鱼和水中所滋生各样有生命的动物，各从其类；又造出各样飞鸟，各从其类。神看着是好的。 22 神就赐福给这一切，说：“滋生繁多，充满海中的水，雀鸟也要多生在地上。” 23 有晚上，有早晨，是第五日。
24 神说：“地要生出活物来，各从其类；牲畜、昆虫、野兽，各从其类。”事就这样成了。 25 于是神造出野兽，各从其类；牲畜，各从其类；地上一切昆虫，各从其类。神看着是好的。
照自己之像造人
26 神说：“我们要照着我们的形象，按着我们的样式造人，使他们管理海里的鱼、空中的鸟、地上的牲畜和全地，并地上所爬的一切昆虫。” 27 神就照着自己的形象造人，乃是照着他的形象，造男造女。 28 神就赐福给他们，又对他们说：“要生养众多，遍满地面，治理这地，也要管理海里的鱼、空中的鸟和地上各样行动的活物。” 29 神说：“看哪，我将遍地上一切结种子的菜蔬和一切树上所结有核的果子，全赐给你们做食物。 30 至于地上的走兽和空中的飞鸟，并各样爬在地上有生命的物，我将青草赐给它们做食物。”事就这样成了。 31 神看着一切所造的都甚好。有晚上，有早晨，是第六日。

اليَوْمُ الأوَّلُ: النُّور
1 فِي البَدءِ خَلَقَ اللهُ[a] السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأرْضَ. 2 كَانَتِ الأرْضُ قَاحِلَةً وَفَارِغَةً.[b] وَكَانَ الظَّلَامُ يَلُفُّ المُحِيطَ، وَرُوحُ اللهِ تُحَوِّمُ[c] فَوْقَ المِيَاهِ. 3 فِي ذَلِكَ الوَقْتِ، قَالَ اللهُ: «لِيَكُنْ نُورٌ.» فَصَارَ نُورٌ. 4 وَنَظَرَ اللهُ إلَى النُّورِ بِرِضىً. وَفَصَلَ اللهُ النُّورَ عَنِ الظَّلَامِ. 5 وَسَمَّى النُّورَ «نَهَارًا» وَسَمَّى الظَّلَامَ «لَيلًا.»
وَكَانَ مَسَاءٌ، ثُمَّ كَانَ صَبَاحٌ. فَكَانَ هَذَا اليَوْمَ الأوَّلَ.
اليَوْمُ الثَّاني: السَّمَاء
6 ثُمَّ قَالَ اللهُ: «لِتَكُنْ قُبَّةٌ[d] بَيْنَ المِيَاهِ لِتَقْسِمَ المِيَاهَ إلَى قِسْمَينِ.» 7 فَخَلَقَ اللهُ قُبَّةَ السَّمَاءِ. وَفَصَلَ المِيَاهَ الَّتِي تَحْتَ القُبَّةِ عَنِ المِيَاهِ الَّتِي فَوقَهَا. وَهَكَذَا كَانَ. 8 وَسَمَّى اللهُ القُبَّةَ «سَمَاءً.»
وَكَانَ مَسَاءٌ، ثُمَّ كَانَ صَبَاحٌ. فَكَانَ هَذَا اليَوْمَ الثَّانِي.
اليَوْمُ الثَّالثُ: الأرْضُ اليَابِسَةُ وَالنَّبَاتَات
9 ثُمَّ قَالَ اللهُ: «لِتُجْمَعِ المِيَاهُ الَّتِي تَحْتَ السَّمَاءِ مَعًا فِي مَكَانٍ وَاحِدٍ، لِكَي تَظْهَرَ اليَابِسَةُ.» وَهَكَذَا كَانَ. 10 وَسَمَّى اللهُ اليَابِسَةَ «أرْضًا،» وَسَمَّى مَكَانَ تَجَمُّعِ المِيَاهِ «بِحَارًا.» وَنَظَرَ اللهُ إلَى ذَلِكَ بِرِضَىً.
11 ثُمَّ قَالَ اللهُ: «لِتَخْضَرَّ الأرْضُ بِالعُشْبِ وَالنَّبَاتَاتِ ذَاتِ البُذُورِ. وَلْتَكُنْ أشْجَارٌ مُثْمِرَةٌ تَحْمِلُ ثِمَارًا ذَاتَ بُذُورٍ مِنْ نَوْعِهَا عَلَى الأرْضِ.» وَهَكَذَا كَانَ. 12 فَأخْرَجَتِ الأرْضُ عُشْبًا وَنَبَاتَاتٍ تَحْمِلُ ثِمَارًا ذَاتَ بُذُورٍ مِنْ نَوْعِهَا. وَأخْرَجَتْ أشْجَارًا تَحْمِلُ ثِمَارًا ذَاتَ بُذُورٍ مِنْ نَوْعِهَا. وَنَظَرَ اللهُ إلَى ذَلِكَ بِرِضَىً.
13 وَكَانَ مَسَاءٌ، ثُمَّ كَانَ صَبَاحٌ. فَكَانَ هَذَا اليَوْمَ الثَّالِثَ.
اليَوْمُ الرَّابعُ: الشَّمْسُ وَالقَمَرُ وَالنُّجُوم
14 ثُمَّ قَالَ اللهُ: «لِتَكُنْ أنْوَارٌ فِي قُبَّةِ السَّمَاءِ، لِكَي تُمَيِّزَ النَّهَارَ مِنَ اللَّيلِ وَتَكُونَ عَلَامَاتٍ لِتَحْدِيدِ المَوَاسِمِ[e] وَالأيَّامِ وَالسِّنِينِ. 15 وَتَكُونَ أنْوَارًا فِي قُبَّةِ السَّمَاءِ لِتُضِيءَ عَلَى الأرْضِ.» وَهَكَذَا كَانَ.
16 فَخَلَقَ اللهُ النُّورَينِ العَظِيمَيْنِ. خَلَقَ النُّورَ الأكْبَرَ لِيَضْبُطَ النَّهَارَ، وَخَلَقَ النُّورَ الأصْغَرَ لِيَضْبُطَ اللَّيلَ. وَخَلَقَ اللهُ النُّجُومَ أيْضًا. 17 وَوَضَعَ اللهُ هَذِهِ الأنْوَارَ فِي قُبَّةِ السَّمَاءِ لِتُضِيءَ عَلَى الأرْضِ. 18 كَمَا قَصَدَ لَهَا اللهُ أنْ تَضْبُطَ النَّهَارَ وَاللَّيلَ، وَأنْ تُمَيِّزَ النُّورَ مِنَ الظَّلَامِ. وَنَظَرَ اللهُ إلَى ذَلِكَ بِرِضَىً.
19 وَكَانَ مَسَاءٌ، ثُمَّ كَانَ صَبَاحٌ. فَكَانَ هَذَا اليَوْمَ الرَّابِعَ.
اليَوْمُ الخَامِسُ: السَّمَكُ وَالطُّيُور
20 ثُمَّ قَالَ اللهُ: «لِتَمْتَلِئِ المِيَاهُ بِمَخْلُوقَاتٍ حَيَّةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ. وَلْتَكُنْ هُنَاكَ طُيُورٌ تَطِيرُ فَوْقَ الأرْضِ عَبْرَ السَّمَاءِ.» 21 فَخَلَقَ اللهُ وُحُوشَ البَحْرِ الضَّخْمَةَ.[f] كَمَا خَلَقَ جَمِيعَ المَخْلُوقَاتِ الحَيَّةِ الَّتِي تَفِيضُ بِهَا المِيَاهُ. خَلَقَهَا مِنْ كُلِّ نَوْعٍ. كَمَا خَلَقَ كُلَّ طَائِرٍ مُجَنَّحٍ مِنْ كُلِّ نَوْعٍ. وَنَظَرَ اللهُ إلَى ذَلِكَ بِرِضىً.
22 وَبَارَكَهَا اللهُ فَقَالَ: «أثْمِرِي وَتَكَاثَرِي وَامْلَأيْ مِيَاهَ البَحْرِ بِالمَخْلُوقَاتِ. وَلْتَتَكَاثَرِ الطُّيُورُ عَلَى الأرْضِ.»
23 فَكَانَ مَسَاءٌ، ثُمَّ كَانَ صَبَاحٌ. فَكَانَ هَذَا اليَوْمَ الخَامِسَ.
اليَوْمُ السَّادِسُ: الحَيَوَانَاتُ البَرِّيَّةُ وَالإنْسَان
24 ثُمَّ قَالَ اللهُ: «لِتُخْرِجِ الأرْضُ مَخْلُوقَاتٍ حَيَّةً مِنْ كُلِّ نَوْعٍ: مَوَاشِي وَزَوَاحِفَ وَحَيَوَانَاتٍ بَرِّيَّةً مِنْ كُلِّ نَوْعٍ.» وَهَكَذَا كَانَ.
25 فَخَلَقَ اللهُ الحَيَوَانَاتِ البَرِّيَّةَ مِنْ كُلِّ نَوْعٍ، وَالمَوَاشِي مِنْ كُلِّ نَوْعٍ، وَكُلَّ حَيَوَانٍ زَاحِفٍ عَلَى الأرْضِ مِنْ كُلِّ نَوْعٍ. وَنَظَرَ اللهُ إلَى ذَلِكَ بِرِضىً.
26 ثُمَّ قَالَ اللهُ: «لِنَخلِقِ النَّاسَ[g] عَلَى صُورَتِنَا وَكَمِثَالِنَا. وَلْيَسُودُوا عَلَى سَمَكِ البَحْرِ وَطُيُورِ السَّمَاءِ وَالمَوَاشِي وَالحَيَوَانَاتِ البَرِّيَّةِ عَلَى الأرْضِ[h] وَعَلَى كُلِّ زَاحِفٍ يَزْحَفُ عَلَى الأرْضِ.»
27 فَخَلَقَ اللهُ النَّاسَ عَلَى صُورَتِهِ. عَلَى صُورَتِهِ خَلَقَهُمْ ذَكَرًا وَأُنْثَى. 28 وَبَارَكَهُمُ اللهُ فَقَالَ: «أثْمِرُوا وَتَكَاثَرُوا. امْلأُوا الأرْضَ وَأخْضِعُوهَا. سُودُوا عَلَى سَمَكِ البَحْرِ وَطُيُورِ السَّمَاءِ وَكُلِّ مَا يَتَحَرَّكُ عَلَى الأرْضِ.»
29 وَقَالَ اللهُ: «هَا قَدْ أعْطَيتُكُمْ كُلَّ نَبَاتٍ عَلَى وَجْهِ الأرْضِ يَحْمِلُ بُذُورًا. وَأعْطَيتُكُمْ كُلَّ شَجَرَةٍ مُثْمِرَةٍ ذَاتَ بُذُورٍ لِتَكُونَ لَكُمْ طَعَامًا. 30 أمَّا جَمِيعُ حَيَوَانَاتِ الأرْضِ، وَجَمِيعُ طُيُورِ السَّمَاءِ، وَجَمِيعُ الحَيَوَانَاتِ الصَّغِيرَةِ الزَّاحِفَةِ الَّتِي فِيهَا حَيَاةٌ، فَيَكُونُ النَّبَاتُ الأخْضَرُ طَعَامَهَا.» وَهَكَذَا كَانَ.
31 وَنَظَرَ اللهُ إلَى ذَلِكَ بِرِضىً كَبِيرٍ.
وَكَانَ مَسَاءٌ ثُمَّ كَانَ صَبَاحٌ. فَكَانَ هَذَا اليَوْمَ السَّادِسَ.
