²⁷ And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: ^(A)“Though the number of the sons of Israel^[a] be as the sand of the sea, ^(B)only a remnant of them will be saved,

The Remnant of Israel Will Return

^20 (A)In that day ^(B)the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more ^(C)lean on him who struck them, but ^(D)will lean on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. ²¹ A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, ^(E)to the mighty God. ^22 (F)For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, ^(G)only a remnant of them will return. ^(H)Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness. ²³ For the Lord God of hosts will make a full end, as decreed, in the midst of all the earth.

⁴ But what is God's reply to him? ^(A)“I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” ⁵ So too at the present time there is ^(B)a remnant, chosen by grace. ^6 (C)But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

^10 [a] Yet ^(A)the number of the children of Israel shall be ^(B)like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. ^(C)And ^(D)in the place where it was said to them, ^(E)“You are not my people,” it shall be said to them, ^(F)“Children^[b] of ^(G)the living God.”

^8 (A)“Yet I will leave some of you alive. When you have among the nations ^(B)some who escape the sword, and when you are scattered through the countries,

¹⁷ I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring ^(A)as the stars of heaven and ^(B)as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess ^(C)the gate of his^[a] enemies,

^11 (A)In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, ^(B)from Assyria, ^(C)from Egypt, from ^(D)Pathros, from ^(E)Cush,^[a] from ^(F)Elam, from ^(G)Shinar, from ^(H)Hamath, and from ^(I)the coastlands of the sea.
