²⁷ Whoever is ^(A)greedy for unjust gain ^(B)troubles his own household,
    but he who hates ^(C)bribes will live.

^19 (A)Such are the ways of everyone who is ^(B)greedy for unjust gain;
    ^(C)it takes away the life of its possessors.

^15 (A)He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly,
    who despises the gain of oppressions,
who shakes his hands, lest they hold a bribe,
    who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed
    ^(B)and shuts his eyes from looking on evil,
¹⁶ he will dwell on the heights;
    his place of defense will be the fortresses of rocks;
    ^(C)his bread will be given him; his water will be sure.

²⁹ Whoever ^(A)troubles his own household will ^(B)inherit the wind,
    and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.

⁸ Woe to those who ^(A)join house to house,
    who add field to field,
until there is no more room,
    and you are made to dwell alone
    in the midst of the land.
⁹ The Lord of hosts has sworn in my hearing:
^(B)“Surely many houses shall be desolate,
    large and beautiful houses, without inhabitant.
^10 (C)For ten acres^[a] of vineyard shall yield but one bath,
    and a ^(D)homer of seed shall yield but an ephah.”^[b]

¹⁶ A ruler who ^(A)lacks understanding is a cruel oppressor,
    but he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.
