16 All these men were the leaders of their families. The people also chose them to be leaders of their tribes. 17 Moses and Aaron took the men who had been chosen to be leaders 18 and called all the Israelites together on the first day of the second month. Then the people were listed by their families and their family groups. All the men who were 20 years old or older were listed.

16 These were the men appointed from the community, the leaders(A) of their ancestral tribes.(B) They were the heads of the clans of Israel.(C)
17 Moses and Aaron took these men whose names had been specified, 18 and they called the whole community together on the first day of the second month.(D) The people registered their ancestry(E) by their clans and families,(F) and the men twenty years old or more(G) were listed by name, one by one,
