Chapter 24

The Destruction of the Temple Foretold. [a](A)Jesus left the temple area and was going away, when his disciples approached him to point out the temple buildings. [b]He said to them in reply, “You see all these things, do you not? Amen, I say to you, there will not be left here a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.”

The Beginning of Calamities. As he was sitting on the Mount of Olives,[c] the disciples approached him privately and said, “Tell us, when will this happen, and what sign will there be of your coming, and of the end of the age?” [d]Jesus said to them in reply, “See that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and they will deceive many. (B)You will hear of wars[e] and reports of wars; see that you are not alarmed, for these things must happen, but it will not yet be the end. (C)Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be famines and earthquakes from place to place. [f]All these are the beginning of the labor pains. [g](D)Then they will hand you over to persecution, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of my name. 10 And then many will be led into sin; they will betray and hate one another. 11 Many false prophets will arise and deceive many; 12 and because of the increase of evildoing, the love of many will grow cold. 13 (E)But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved. 14 (F)And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the world as a witness to all nations,[h] and then the end will come.

The Great Tribulation.[i] 15 (G)“When you see the desolating abomination[j] spoken of through Daniel the prophet standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), 16 then those in Judea must flee[k] to the mountains, 17 [l](H)a person on the housetop must not go down to get things out of his house, 18 a person in the field must not return to get his cloak. 19 Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days. 20 [m]Pray that your flight not be in winter or on the sabbath, 21 [n](I)for at that time there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will be. 22 And if those days had not been shortened, no one would be saved; but for the sake of the elect they will be shortened. 23 (J)If anyone says to you then, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 False messiahs and false prophets will arise, and they will perform signs and wonders so great as to deceive, if that were possible, even the elect. 25 Behold, I have told it to you beforehand. 26 So if they say to you, ‘He is in the desert,’ do not go out there; if they say, ‘He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.[o] 27 (K)For just as lightning comes from the east and is seen as far as the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

The Coming of the Son of Man. 29 [p](L)“Immediately after the tribulation of those days,

the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light,
and the stars will fall from the sky,
    and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

30 (M)And then the sign of the Son of Man[q] will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 (N)And he will send out his angels[r] with a trumpet blast, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

The Lesson of the Fig Tree.[s] 32 “Learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things, know that he is near, at the gates. 34 Amen, I say to you, this generation[t] will not pass away until all these things have taken place. 35 (O)Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

The Unknown Day and Hour.[u] 36 (P)“But of that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son,[v] but the Father alone. 37 [w](Q)For as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 In [those] days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark. 39 They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away. So will it be [also] at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 [x](R)Two men will be out in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one will be left. 42 [y](S)Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. 43 (T)Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. 44 So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.

The Faithful or the Unfaithful Servant.[z] 45 (U)“Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time?[aa] 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. 47 Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. 48 [ab]But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is long delayed,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards, 50 the servant’s master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour 51 (V)and will punish him severely[ac] and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.

  1. 24:1–25:46 The discourse of the fifth book, the last of the five around which the gospel is structured. It is called the “eschatological” discourse since it deals with the coming of the new age (the eschaton) in its fullness, with events that will precede it, and with how the disciples are to conduct themselves while awaiting an event that is as certain as its exact time is unknown to all but the Father (Mt 24:36). The discourse may be divided into two parts, Mt 24:1–44 and Mt 24:45–25:46. In the first, Matthew follows his Marcan source (Mk 13:1–37) closely. The second is drawn from Q and from the evangelist’s own traditional material. Both parts show Matthew’s editing of his sources by deletions, additions, and modifications. The vigilant waiting that is emphasized in the second part does not mean a cessation of ordinary activity and concentration only on what is to come, but a faithful accomplishment of duties at hand, with awareness that the end, for which the disciples must always be ready, will entail the great judgment by which the everlasting destiny of all will be determined.
  2. 24:2 As in Mark, Jesus predicts the destruction of the temple. By omitting the Marcan story of the widow’s contribution (Mk 12:41–44) that immediately precedes the prediction in that gospel, Matthew has established a close connection between it and Mt 23:38, “…your house will be abandoned desolate.”
  3. 24:3 The Mount of Olives: see note on Mt 21:1. The disciples: cf. Mk 13:3–4 where only Peter, James, John, and Andrew put the question that is answered by the discourse. In both gospels, however, the question is put privately: the ensuing discourse is only for those who are disciples of Jesus. When will this happen…end of the age?: Matthew distinguishes carefully between the destruction of the temple (this) and the coming of Jesus that will bring the end of the age. In Mark the two events are more closely connected, a fact that may be explained by Mark’s believing that the one would immediately succeed the other. Coming: this translates the Greek word parousia, which is used in the gospels only here and in Mt 24:27, 37, 39. It designated the official visit of a ruler to a city or the manifestation of a saving deity, and it was used by Christians to refer to the final coming of Jesus in glory, a term first found in the New Testament with that meaning in 1 Thes 2:19. The end of the age: see note on Mt 13:39.
  4. 24:4–14 This section of the discourse deals with calamities in the world (Mt 24:6–7) and in the church (Mt 24:9–12). The former must happen before the end comes (Mt 24:6), but they are only the beginning of the labor pains (Mt 24:8). (It may be noted that the Greek word translated the end in Mt 24:6 and in Mt 24:13–14 is not the same as the phrase “the end of the age” in Mt 24:3, although the meaning is the same.) The latter are sufferings of the church, both from within and without, that will last until the gospel is preached…to all nations. Then the end will come and those who have endured the sufferings with fidelity will be saved (Mt 24:13–14).
  5. 24:6–7 The disturbances mentioned here are a commonplace of apocalyptic language, as is the assurance that they must happen (see Dn 2:28 LXX), for that is the plan of God. Kingdom against kingdom: see Is 19:2.
  6. 24:8 The labor pains: the tribulations leading up to the end of the age are compared to the pains of a woman about to give birth. There is much attestation for rabbinic use of the phrase “the woes (or birth pains) of the Messiah” after the New Testament period, but in at least one instance it is attributed to a rabbi who lived in the late first century A.D. In this Jewish usage it meant the distress of the time preceding the coming of the Messiah; here, the labor pains precede the coming of the Son of Man in glory.
  7. 24:9–12 Matthew has used Mk 13:9–12 in his missionary discourse (Mt 10:17–21) and omits it here. Besides the sufferings, including death, and the hatred of all nations that the disciples will have to endure, there will be worse affliction within the church itself. This is described in Mt 24:10–12, which are peculiar to Matthew. Will be led into sin: literally, “will be scandalized,” probably meaning that they will become apostates; see Mt 13:21 where “fall away” translates the same Greek word as here. Betray: in the Greek this is the same word as the hand over of Mt 24:9. The handing over to persecution and hatred from outside will have their counterpart within the church. False prophets: these are Christians; see note on Mt 7:15–20. Evildoing: see Mt 7:23. Because of the apocalyptic nature of much of this discourse, the literal meaning of this description of the church should not be pressed too hard. However, there is reason to think that Matthew’s addition of these verses reflects in some measure the condition of his community.
  8. 24:14 Except for the last part (and then the end will come), this verse substantially repeats Mk 13:10. The Matthean addition raises a problem since what follows in Mt 24:15–23 refers to the horrors of the First Jewish Revolt including the destruction of the temple, and Matthew, writing after that time, knew that the parousia of Jesus was still in the future. A solution may be that the evangelist saw the events of those verses as foreshadowing the cosmic disturbances that he associates with the parousia (Mt 24:29) so that the period in which the former took place could be understood as belonging to the end.
  9. 24:15–28 Cf. Mk 13:14–23; Lk 17:23–24, 37. A further stage in the tribulations that will precede the coming of the Son of Man, and an answer to the question of Mt 24:3a, “when will this (the destruction of the temple) happen?”
  10. 24:15 The desolating abomination: in 167 B.C. the Syrian king Antiochus IV Epiphanes desecrated the temple by setting up in it a statue of Zeus Olympios (see 1 Mc 1:54). That event is referred to in Dn 12:11 LXX as the “desolating abomination” (NAB “horrible abomination”) and the same Greek term is used here; cf. also Dn 9:27; 11:31. Although the desecration had taken place before Daniel was written, it is presented there as a future event, and Matthew sees that “prophecy” fulfilled in the desecration of the temple by the Romans. In the holy place: the temple; more precise than Mark’s where he should not (Mk 13:14). Let the reader understand: this parenthetical remark, taken from Mk 13:14 invites the reader to realize the meaning of Daniel’s “prophecy.”
  11. 24:16 The tradition that the Christians of Jerusalem fled from that city to Pella, a city of Transjordan, at the time of the First Jewish Revolt is found in Eusebius (Ecclesiastical History, 3:5:3), who attributes the flight to “a certain oracle given by revelation before the war.” The tradition is not improbable but the Matthean command, derived from its Marcan source, is vague in respect to the place of flight (to the mountains), although some scholars see it as applicable to the flight to Pella.
  12. 24:17–19 Haste is essential, and the journey will be particularly difficult for women who are burdened with unborn or infant children.
  13. 24:20 On the sabbath: this addition to in winter (cf. Mk 13:18) has been understood as an indication that Matthew was addressed to a church still observing the Mosaic law of sabbath rest and the scribal limitations upon the length of journeys that might lawfully be made on that day. That interpretation conflicts with Matthew’s view on sabbath observance (cf. Mt 12:1–14). The meaning of the addition may be that those undertaking on the sabbath a journey such as the one here ordered would be offending the sensibilities of law-observant Jews and would incur their hostility.
  14. 24:21 For the unparalleled distress of that time, see Dn 12:1.
  15. 24:26–28 Claims that the Messiah is to be found in some distant or secret place must be ignored. The coming of the Son of Man will be as clear as lightning is to all and as the corpse of an animal is to vultures; cf. Lk 17:24, 37. Here there is clear identification of the Son of Man and the Messiah; cf. Mt 24:23.
  16. 24:29 The answer to the question of Mt 24:3b, “What will be the sign of your coming?” Immediately after…those days: the shortening of time between the preceding tribulation and the parousia has been explained as Matthew’s use of a supposed device of Old Testament prophecy whereby certainty that a predicted event will occur is expressed by depicting it as imminent. While it is questionable that that is an acceptable understanding of the Old Testament predictions, it may be applicable here, for Matthew knew that the parousia had not come immediately after the fall of Jerusalem, and it is unlikely that he is attributing a mistaken calculation of time to Jesus. The sun…be shaken: cf. Is 13:10, 13.
  17. 24:30 The sign of the Son of Man: perhaps this means the sign that is the glorious appearance of the Son of Man; cf. Mt 12:39–40 where “the sign of Jonah” is Jonah’s being in the “belly of the whale.” Tribes of the earth will mourn: peculiar to Matthew; cf. Zec 12:12–14. Coming upon the clouds…glory: cf. Dn 7:13, although there the “one like a son of man” comes to God to receive kingship; here the Son of Man comes from heaven for judgment.
  18. 24:31 Send out his angels: cf. Mt 13:41 where they are sent out to collect the wicked for punishment. Trumpet blast: cf. Is 27:13; 1 Thes 4:16.
  19. 24:32–35 Cf. Mk 13:28–31.
  20. 24:34 The difficulty raised by this verse cannot be satisfactorily removed by the supposition that this generation means the Jewish people throughout the course of their history, much less the entire human race. Perhaps for Matthew it means the generation to which he and his community belonged.
  21. 24:36–44 The statement of Mt 24:34 is now counterbalanced by one that declares that the exact time of the parousia is known only to the Father (Mt 24:36), and the disciples are warned to be always ready for it. This section is drawn from Mark and Q (cf. Lk 17:26–27, 34–35; 12:39–40).
  22. 24:36 Many textual witnesses omit nor the Son, which follows Mk 13:32. Since its omission can be explained by reluctance to attribute this ignorance to the Son, the reading that includes it is probably original.
  23. 24:37–39 Cf. Lk 17:26–27. In the days of Noah: the Old Testament account of the flood lays no emphasis upon what is central for Matthew, i.e., the unexpected coming of the flood upon those who were unprepared for it.
  24. 24:40–41 Cf. Lk 17:34–35. Taken…left: the former probably means taken into the kingdom; the latter, left for destruction. People in the same situation will be dealt with in opposite ways. In this context, the discrimination between them will be based on their readiness for the coming of the Son of Man.
  25. 24:42–44 Cf. Lk 12:39–40. The theme of vigilance and readiness is continued with the bold comparison of the Son of Man to a thief who comes to break into a house.
  26. 24:45–51 The second part of the discourse (see note on Mt 24:1–25:46) begins with this parable of the faithful or unfaithful servant; cf. Lk 12:41–46. It is addressed to the leaders of Matthew’s church; the servant has been put in charge of his master’s household (Mt 24:45) even though that household is composed of those who are his fellow servants (Mt 24:49).
  27. 24:45 To distribute…proper time: readiness for the master’s return means a vigilance that is accompanied by faithful performance of the duty assigned.
  28. 24:48 My master…delayed: the note of delay is found also in the other parables of this section; cf. Mt 25:5, 19.
  29. 24:51 Punish him severely: the Greek verb, found in the New Testament only here and in the Lucan parallel (Lk 12:46), means, literally, “cut in two.” With the hypocrites: see note on Mt 6:2. Matthew classes the unfaithful Christian leader with the unbelieving leaders of Judaism. Wailing and grinding of teeth: see note on Mt 8:11–12.

The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times(A)

24 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another;(B) every one will be thrown down.”

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives,(C) the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming(D) and of the end of the age?”(E)

Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.(F) For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.(G) You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.(H) There will be famines(I) and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted(J) and put to death,(K) and you will be hated by all nations because of me.(L) 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets(M) will appear and deceive many people.(N) 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(O) 14 And this gospel of the kingdom(P) will be preached in the whole world(Q) as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

15 “So when you see standing in the holy place(R) ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[a](S) spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop(T) go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!(U) 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.(V)

22 “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect(W) those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.(X) 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders(Y) to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.

26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning(Z) that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming(AA) of the Son of Man.(AB) 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.(AC)

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
    and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’[b](AD)

30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[c] will mourn(AE) when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven,(AF) with power and great glory.[d] 31 And he will send his angels(AG) with a loud trumpet call,(AH) and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[e] is near, right at the door.(AI) 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.(AJ) 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.(AK)

The Day and Hour Unknown(AL)(AM)

36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[f] but only the Father.(AN) 37 As it was in the days of Noah,(AO) so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,(AP) up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. 42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.(AT) 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming,(AU) he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready,(AV) because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant,(AW) whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.(AX) 47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.(AY) 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.(AZ) 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(BA)

24 ଯୀଶୁ ମନ୍ଦିର ଛାଡ଼ି ବାହାରି ଆସିଲେ ଓ ଗ୍ଭଲି ଯାଉଥିଲେ। ସେହି ସମୟରେ ତାହାଙ୍କ ଶିଷ୍ୟମାନେ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ମନ୍ଦିରର ଭବନଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ଦେଖାଇବା ପାଇଁ ତାହାଙ୍କ ପାଖକୁ ଆସିଲେ। ଯୀଶୁ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ପଗ୍ଭରିଲେ, “ଏହି ଭବନଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଦେଖି ପାରୁଛ? ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ସତ୍ୟ କହୁଛି, ସବୁତକ ଭବନ ଧ୍ୱଂସ ହୋଇଯିବ। ଏଥିର ଗୋଟିଏ ହେଲେ ପଥର ଅନ୍ୟଟି ଉପରେ ରହିପାରିବ ନାହିଁ। ସବୁତକ ପଥର ଅନ୍ୟଟି ଉପରେ ରହି ପାରିବ ନାହିଁ। ସବୁତକ ପଥର ଭୁଇଁ ଉପରେ କୁଢ଼େଇ ହୋଇ ପଡ଼ିବ।”

ପରେ ଯେତେବେଳେ ଯୀଶୁ ଜୀତପର୍ବତ ଉପରେ ବସି ଥିଲେ, ତାହାଙ୍କର ଶିଷ୍ୟମାନେ ସେ ଏକାନ୍ତରେ ଥିବା ସମୟରେ ତାହାଙ୍କ ପାଖକୁ ଆସିଲେ। ସେମାନେ ପଗ୍ଭରିଲେ, “ଆମ୍ଭକୁ କୁହନ୍ତୁ, ଏସବୁ ଘଟଣା କେବେ ଘଟିବ? କେଉଁ ସଙ୍କେତ ଦେଖାଇବ ଯେ ଆପଣଙ୍କ ପୁନର୍ବାର ଆସିବା ଓ ଜଗତର ଅନ୍ତ ହେବା ସମୟ ହେଲାଣି?”

ଯୀଶୁ ଉତ୍ତର ଦେଲେ, “ସାବଧାନ ହୁଅ! ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଯେପରି କେହି ପଥଭ୍ରଷ୍ଟ ନ କରେ। ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଏ କଥା ଏଥିପାଇଁ କହୁଛି ଯେ, ଅନେକ ଲୋକ ମୋ’ ନାମରେ ଆସିବେ ଓ କହିବେ ‘ମୁଁ ନିଜେ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟ,’ ଓ ସେମାନେ ଅନେକ ଲୋକଙ୍କୁ ପଥଭ୍ରଷ୍ଟ କରିବେ। ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ ବିଷୟରେ ଓ ଯୁଦ୍ଧର ଗୁଜବ ବିଷୟରେ ଶୁଣିବ। କିନ୍ତୁ ଦେଖ! ଭୟ କରିବ ନାହିଁ। ଅନ୍ତକାଳ ଆସିବା ପୂର୍ବରୁ ଏସବୁ ଘଟଣା ନିଶ୍ଚୟ ଘଟିବ। ଗୋଟିଏ ଜାତି ଅନ୍ୟ ଜାତିର ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ଓ ଗୋଟିଏ ରାଜ୍ୟ ଅନ୍ୟ ଗୋଟିଏ ରାଜ୍ୟ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ଠିଆ ହେବ। ବିଭିନ୍ନ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଦୁର୍ଭିକ୍ଷ ପଡ଼ିବ ଓ ଭୂମିକମ୍ପ ହେବ। କିନ୍ତୁ ଏ ଘଟଣାଗୁଡ଼ିକ କେବଳ ପ୍ରଥମ ପ୍ରସବବେଦନା ଭଳି ହେବ।

“ସେତେବେଳେ ଲୋକେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତି ଖରାପ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରିବେ। ସେମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦଣ୍ଡ ଦେବା ପାଇଁ ଧରାଇ ଦେବେ। ସେମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ମାରିଦେବେ। ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ମୋର ଶିଷ୍ୟ ହୋଇଥିବା ଯୋଗୁଁ ସମସ୍ତ ଦେଶର ଲୋକମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଘୃଣା କରିବେ। 10 ସେତେବେଳେ ଅନେକ ବିଶ୍ୱାସୀ ଲୋକ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ ହରେଇ ବସିବେ। ସେମାନେ ପରସ୍ପରର ବିରୋଧୀ ହେବେ ଓ ପରସ୍ପରକୁ ଘୃଣା କରିବେ। 11 ଅନେକ ଭଣ୍ଡ ଭବିଷ୍ୟ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ଦ୍‌‌ବକ୍ତା ବାହାରିବେ। ସେମାନେ ଅନେକ ଲୋକଙ୍କୁ ଠକିବେ, ଓ ସେମାନଙ୍କ କଥାରେ ପଡ଼ି ଅନେକ ଲୋକ ଭୁଲ୍ କଥାରେ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ କରିବେ। 12 ସଂସାରରେ ମନ୍ଦ ବଢ଼ି ବଢ଼ି ଗ୍ଭଲିବ। ଅଧିକାଂଶ ବିଶ୍ୱାସୀ ଲୋକଙ୍କର ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ପ୍ରେମ ଲୋପ ପାଇଯିବ। 13 କିନ୍ତୁ ଯେଉଁ ଲୋକ ଶେଷ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଦୃଢ଼ ଭାବରେ ତିଷ୍ଠି ରହିବ ସେ ଉଦ୍ଧାର ପାଇବ। 14 ଈଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ରାଜ୍ୟର ସୁସମାଗ୍ଭର ସାରା ଜଗତରେ ପ୍ରଗ୍ଭରିତ ହେବ। ସମସ୍ତ ଦେଶର ଲୋକମାନେ ଏହା ଶୁଣିବେ। ତା'ପରେ ଅନ୍ତକାଳ ଆସିବ।

15 “ଭବିଷ୍ୟ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ଦ୍‌‌ବକ୍ତା ଦାନିୟେଲ ‘ଧ୍ୱଂସ ସାଧକ ଭୟଙ୍କର ବସ୍ତୁ’[a] ବିଷୟରେ କହିଲେ। ଏହି ଭୟଙ୍କର ବସ୍ତୁଟି ପବିତ୍ର ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଠିଆ ହୋଇଥିବାର ଦେଖାଯିବ।’’ (ଏହାକୁ ପ‌ଢ଼ୁଥିବା ଲୋକେ ଏହାର ଅର୍ଥ ବୁଝି ପାରିବା ଉଚିତ୍।) 16 “ସେତେବେଳେ ଯିହୂଦାର ଲୋକମାନେ ପର୍ବତ ଆଡ଼କୁ ପଳେଇଯିବା ଉଚିତ୍। 17 ସେତେବେଳେ କୌଣସି ଜିନିଷ ପାଇଁ ତିଳେ ହେଲେ ସମୟ ନଷ୍ଟ କରିବା ଉଚିତ୍ ନୁହେଁ। ସେତେବେଳେ ଘରର ଛାତ ଉପରେ ଥିବା ଲୋକ ଘରୁ କୌଣସି ଜିନିଷ ପାଇବା ପାଇଁ ତଳକୁ ଓହ୍ଲେଇ ନ ଆସୁ। 18 ଜମିରେ ଥିବା ବ୍ୟକ୍ତି ନିଜର ଗ୍ଭଦର ଆଣିବାକୁ ଫେରି ନ ଯାଉ।

19 “ଯେଉଁ ମହିଳାମାନେ ଗର୍ଭବତୀ ଥିବେ, କି ଯାହା କୋଳରେ ଶିଶୁଟିଏ ଥିବ ସେମାନେ ଏହି ସମୟରେ ବହୁତ କଷ୍ଟ ଭୋଗିବେ। 20 କିନ୍ତୁ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କର ଯେ ଶୀତଦିନ କି ବିଶ୍ରାମ ଦିବସ[b]ରେ ଏଗୁଡ଼ିକ ନ ଘଟୁ ଯେପରି ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ପଳାଇବାକୁ ନ ପଡ଼େ। 21 କାରଣ ସେତେବେଳେ ଏତେ ଅଧିକ ବିପଦ ଆସିବ ଯେ ସେଭଳି ବିପଦ ସୃଷ୍ଟିର ଆରମ୍ଭ କାଳରୁ ଏ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଆସି ନାହିଁ କି ଭବିଷ୍ୟତରେ ଆସିବ ନାହିଁ।

22 “ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ଏହି ବିପଦପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ସମୟକୁ କମେଇ ଦେବାକୁ ସ୍ଥିର କରିଛନ୍ତି, ନ ହେଲେ କେହି ବଞ୍ଚି ରହି ପାରିବେ ନାହିଁ। କିନ୍ତୁ ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ଯେଉଁମାନଙ୍କୁ ବାଛିଛନ୍ତି, କେବଳ ସେହିମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ସେହି ସମୟକୁ କମେଇ ଦେଇଛନ୍ତି।

23 “ସେହି ସମୟରେ କେତେକ ଲୋକ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ କହିପାରନ୍ତି ‘ଦେଖ, ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟ ଏଠାରେ ଅଛନ୍ତି’ କି ‘ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟ ସେଠାରେ ଅଛନ୍ତି।’ କିନ୍ତୁ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ କରିବ ନାହିଁ। 24 ଭଣ୍ଡ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟମାନେ ଓ ଭଣ୍ଡ ଭବିଷ୍ୟ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ଦ୍‌‌ବକ୍ତାମାନେ ବାହାରିବେ। ସେମାନେ ବହୁତ ବଡ଼ ବଡ଼ ଆଶ୍ଚର୍ଯ୍ୟଜନକ କାମ କରିବେ ଓ ଚମତ୍କାର ପ୍ରଦର୍ଶନ କରିବେ, ଯଦି ସମ୍ଭବ ହୁଏ, ତେବେ ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ମନୋନୀତ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ସେମାନେ ବୋକା ବନେଇ ଦେବାକୁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରିବେ। 25 ଏ ଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଘଟିବା ପୂର୍ବରୁ ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଚେତାବନୀ ଦେଉଛି।

26 “କିଛି ଲୋକେ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ କହି ପାରନ୍ତି: ‘ଦେଖ, ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟ ଜନବିହୀନ ମରୁଭୂମି ଅଞ୍ଚଳରେ ଅଛନ୍ତି!’ କିନ୍ତୁ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟଙ୍କୁ ଖୋଜିବା ପାଇଁ ଜନବିହୀନ ମରୁଭୂମି ଅଞ୍ଚଳକୁ ଯିବ ନାହିଁ। ବା ସେମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ କହି ପାରନ୍ତି: ‘ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟ ସେହି କୋଠରୀରେ ଅଛନ୍ତି।’ କିନ୍ତୁ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ କରିବ ନାହିଁ। 27 ଆକାଶରେ ବିଜୁଳି ମାରିଲେ ପୂର୍ବରୁ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହୋଇ ପଶ୍ଚିମ ଆକାଶ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ବ୍ୟାପି ଯାଏ ଓ ଯେପରି ସମସ୍ତେ ତାହା ଦେଖି ପାରନ୍ତି ଠିକ୍ ସେହିଭଳି ମନୁଷ୍ୟପୁତ୍ରଙ୍କ ଆସିବା ସମୟରେ ସମସ୍ତେ ଦେଖି ପାରିବେ। 28 ଯେଉଁ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଶାଗୁଣାମାନଙ୍କୁ ଏକାଠି ହୋଇଥିବାର ଦେଖ, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ସହଜରେ ଜାଣିପାର ଯେ ସେହି ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଗୋଟିଏ ମଲା ଜୀବ ପଡ଼ିଛି। ଠିକ୍ ସେହିଭଳି ମୋର ଆସିବା ଦିନ ଏହି ପ୍ରକାର ହେବ।

29 “ସେହି ଦିନଗୁଡ଼ିକର ବିପଦ ପଡ଼ିବା ପରେ ପରେ ଏହି ଘଟଣାମାନ ଘଟିବ:

‘ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ଅନ୍ଧକାରମୟ ହେବ,
    ଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ଆଲୋକ ଦେବ ନାହିଁ।
ତାରାମାନେ ଆକାଶରୁ ଖସି ପଡ଼ିବେ,
    ଆକାଶର ସମସ୍ତ ଶକ୍ତିଗୁଡ଼ିକ ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତିତ ହୋଇଯିବେ।’(A)

30 “ସେତିକିବେଳେ ମନୁଷ୍ୟପୁତ୍ରଙ୍କ ଆସିବା ସଙ୍କେତ ଆକାଶରେ ଦେଖାଦେବ। ଜଗତର ସମସ୍ତ ଲୋକ ବିଳାପ କରିବେ। ଲୋକେ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ଆକାଶରେ ମେଘମାଳା ଉପରେ ଆସୁଥିବାର ଦେଖିବେ। ମନୁଷ୍ୟପୁତ୍ର ଶକ୍ତି ଓ ମହାନ୍ ମହିମା ସହିତ ଆସିବେ। 31 ନିଜର ସ୍ୱର୍ଗଦୂତମାନଙ୍କୁ ପୃଥିବୀରେ ସର୍ବତ୍ର ପଠାଇବା ପାଇଁ ମନୁଷ୍ୟପୁତ୍ର ମହା ତୂରୀ ଧ୍ୱନି ସହିତ ଆସିବେ। ସେହି ସ୍ୱର୍ଗଦୂତମାନେ ମର୍ତ୍ତ୍ୟର ଗୋଟିଏ ଭାଗରୁ ଆଉ ଗୋଟିଏ ଭାଗ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ବୁଲି, ଗ୍ଭରିଆଡ଼ୁ ତାହାଙ୍କର ମନୋନୀତ ଲୋକଙ୍କୁ ଏକାଠି କରିବେ।

32 “ଡିମିରିଗଛରୁ ଗୋଟିଏ ଶିକ୍ଷା ଲାଭ କର। ଯେତେବେଳେ ଡିମିରିଗଛର ଡାଳଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଶାଗୁଆ ଓ ନରମ ହୁଏ, ସେତେବେଳେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଜାଣ ଯେ, ଖରାଦିନ ଶୀଘ୍ର ଆସିଯିବ। 33 ଠିକ୍ ସେହିଭଳି ମୁଁ କହିଥିବା କଥାଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଯେତେବେଳେ ଘଟିବାର ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଦେଖିବ, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଜାଣିବ ଯେ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟଙ୍କ ଆସିବା ସମୟ ନିକଟ ହେଲାଣି। 34 ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ସତ୍ୟ କହୁଛି। ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନର ଲୋକେ ବଞ୍ଚିଥିବା ସମୟରେ ହିଁ ଏସବୁ ଘଟଣା ଘଟିବ। 35 ପୃଥିବୀ ଓ ଆକାଶ ନଷ୍ଟ ହୋଇଯିବ, କିନ୍ତୁ ମୋର ବାକ୍ୟ କେବେ ଅନ୍ୟଥା ହେବ ନାହିଁ।

କେବଳ ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ଉଚିତ୍ ସମୟ ଜାଣନ୍ତି

36 “ସେହି ଦିନ ବା ସେହି ସମୟ କେବେ ଆସିବ, କେହି ଜାଣନ୍ତି ନାହିଁ। ଏପରିକି ସ୍ୱର୍ଗର ଦୂତମାନେ ଜାଣନ୍ତି ନାହିଁ। ଏପରିକି ପୁତ୍ର ଜାଣନ୍ତି ନାହିଁ, କେବଳ ପରମପିତା ଏହା ଜାଣନ୍ତି।

37 “ନୋହଙ୍କ ସମୟରେ ଯେଭଳି ଘଟିଥିଲା, ମନୁଷ୍ୟପୁତ୍ରଙ୍କ ଆସିବା ସମୟରେ ସେହିପରି ଘଟିବ। 38 ସେତେବେଳେ ବନ୍ୟା ଆସିବା ପୂର୍ବରୁ ଲୋକମାନେ ଭୋଜନପାନ କରୁଥିଲେ, ଲୋକେ ବିବାହ କରୁଥିଲେ ଏବଂ ପିଲାମାନଙ୍କୁ ବିବାହ ଦେଉଥିଲେ। ନୋହଙ୍କର ଜାହାଜରେ ପ୍ରବେଶ କରିବା ଦିନ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଲୋକେ ଏସବୁ କରୁଥିଲେ। 39 ଯାହାସବୁ ସେତେବେଳେ ଘଟି ଯାଉଥିଲା, ଲୋକେ ତାହା ଜାଣିପାରୁ ନ ଥିଲେ। ସେତିକିବେଳେ ବନ୍ୟା ମାଡ଼ିଆସିଲା। ସବୁ ଲୋକ ନଷ୍ଟ ହୋଇଗଲେ।

“ମନୁଷ୍ୟପୁତ୍ର ଆସିବା ସମୟରେ ଠିକ୍ ସେହିପରି ହେବ। 40 ଦୁଇଜଣ ଲୋକ ଏକାଠି କାମ କରୁଥିବେ, ସେମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଜଣକୁ ସେଠାରେ ଛାଡ଼ି ଆର ଜଣକୁ ନିଆଯିବ। 41 ଦୁଇଜଣ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀଲୋକ ମିଶି ଚକିରେ ଶସ୍ୟ ପେଷୁଥିବେ, ସେମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଜଣକୁ ସେଠାରେ ପରିତ୍ୟାଗ କରି ଆରଜଣକୁ ନିଆଯିବ।

42 “ତେଣୁ ସଦାବେଳେ ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତ ରୁହ। ତୁମ୍ଭର ପ୍ରଭୁ କେଉଁଦିନ ଆସିବେ ତାହା ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଜାଣ ନାହିଁ। 43 ମନେରଖ, ଯଦି ଘରମାଲିକ ଜାଣିଥା’ନ୍ତା ଯେ ଗ୍ଭେର କେତେବେଳେ ଆସିବ, ତେବେ ସେ ସତର୍କ ରହନ୍ତେ ଓ ଗ୍ଭେରକୁ ଘରେ ପଶିବାକୁ ଦିଅନ୍ତେ ନାହିଁ। 44 ଠିକ୍ ସେହିଭଳି ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଜାଗ୍ରତ ରୁହ। କାରଣ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଯେତେବେଳେ ଆଶା କରୁ ନ ଥିବ, ଠିକ୍ ସେତେକି ବେଳେ ମନୁଷ୍ୟପୁତ୍ର ଆସିଯିବେ।

ଉତ୍ତମ ଓ ମନ୍ଦ ସେବକ

(ଲୂକ 12:41-48)

45 “କିଏ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ ଯୋଗ୍ୟ ଓ ବିଜ୍ଞ ଗ୍ଭକର? ଯିଏ ଅନ୍ୟ ଗ୍ଭକରମାନଙ୍କୁ ଠିକ୍ ସମୟରେ ସେମାନଙ୍କର ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଦେବ, ମାଲିକ ସେହିଭଳି ଗ୍ଭକରକୁ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ କରିଥା’ନ୍ତି। କିଏ ସେ ଗ୍ଭକର, ସେହି କାମ କରିବା ପାଇଁ, ସେ କେଉଁ ଗ୍ଭକରକୁ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ କରିବେ? 46 ଯେତେବେଳେ ମାଲିକ ଫେରି ଆସି ଦେଖିବେ ଯେ ସେ ଗ୍ଭକରଟିକୁ ଯେଉଁ କାମ ଦେଇଥିଲେ, ସେ ସେହି କାମ ଠିକ୍ ଭାବରେ କରୁଛି, ସେତେବେଳେ ସେ ଗ୍ଭକରଟି ଉପରେ ବହୁତ ଖୁସୀ ହେବ। 47 ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ସତ୍ୟ କହୁଛି, ମାଲିକ ତାହାଙ୍କ ନିଜର ସମସ୍ତ ସମ୍ପତ୍ତିର ଦାୟିତ୍ୱ ଦେବା ପାଇଁ ସେହି ଗ୍ଭକରଟିକୁ ବାଛିବେ।

48 “ଅନ୍ୟ ପକ୍ଷରେ ଗ୍ଭକରଟି ଯଦି ମନ୍ଦ ଲୋକ ହୋଇଥିବ, ଏବଂ ସେ ମନେ ମନେ ଭାବିବ ଯେ ମାଲିକ ଏତେ ଶୀଘ୍ର ଆସିବେ ନାହିଁ। 49 ତେବେ ସେ ଅନ୍ୟ ଗ୍ଭକରମାନଙ୍କୁ ପିଟିବା ଆରମ୍ଭ କରିଦେବ। ସେ ଖାଇ ଓ ଅନ୍ୟ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କ ସହିତ ମଦ୍ୟପାନ କରି ରହିବ। 50 ଗ୍ଭକରଟି ଆଶା କରି ନ ଥିବା ଦିନ ଓ ତାକୁ ଜଣା ନ ଥିବା ସମୟରେ ସେ ମାଲିକ ଆସି ପହଞ୍ଚିବେ। 51 ମାଲିକ ତାକୁ କଠିନ ଶାସ୍ତି ଦେବେ। ସେ ତାକୁ କପଟୀଲୋକଙ୍କ ସହିତ ଯେଉଁଠାରେ ଲୋକମାନେ କାନ୍ଦନ୍ତି ଓ ଯନ୍ତ୍ରଣାରେ ଦାନ୍ତ କଡ଼ମଡ଼ କରନ୍ତି ସେହି ସ୍ଥାନକୁ ପଠାଇଦେବେ।

Jesus Warns About the Future(A)

24 Jesus left the Temple area and was walking away. But his followers came to him to show him the Temple’s buildings. He asked them, “Are you looking at these buildings? The fact is, they will be destroyed. Every stone will be thrown down to the ground. Not one stone will be left on another.”

Later, Jesus was sitting at a place on the Mount of Olives. The followers came to be alone with him. They said, “Tell us when these things will happen. And what will happen to prepare us for your coming and the end of time?”

Jesus answered, “Be careful! Don’t let anyone fool you. Many people will come and use my name. They will say, ‘I am the Messiah.’ And they will fool many people. You will hear about wars that are being fought. And you will hear stories about other wars beginning. But don’t be afraid. These things must happen before the end comes. Nations will fight against other nations. Kingdoms will fight against other kingdoms. There will be times when there is no food for people to eat. And there will be earthquakes in different places. These things are only the beginning of troubles, like the first pains of a woman giving birth.

“Then you will be arrested and handed over to be punished and killed. People all over the world will hate you because you believe in me. 10 During that time many believers will lose their faith. They will turn against each other and hate each other. 11 Many false prophets will come and cause many people to believe things that are wrong. 12 There will be so much more evil in the world that the love of most believers will grow cold. 13 But the one who remains faithful to the end will be saved. 14 And the Good News I have shared about God’s kingdom will be told throughout the world. It will be spread to every nation. Then the end will come.

15 “Daniel the prophet spoke about ‘the terrible thing that causes destruction.’[a] You will see this terrible thing standing in the holy place.” (You who read this should understand what it means.) 16 “The people in Judea at that time should run away to the mountains. 17 They should run away without wasting time to stop for anything. If they are on the roof of their house, they must not go down to get anything out of the house. 18 If they are in the field, they must not go back to get a coat.

19 “During that time it will be hard for women who are pregnant or have small babies! 20 Pray that it will not be winter or a Sabbath day when these things happen and you have to run away, 21 because it will be a time of great trouble. There will be more trouble than has ever happened since the beginning of the world. And nothing as bad as that will ever happen again.

22 “But God has decided to make that terrible time short. If it were not made short, no one would continue living. But God will make that time short to help the people he has chosen.

23 “Someone might say to you at that time, ‘Look, there is the Messiah!’ Or someone else might say, ‘There he is!’ But don’t believe them. 24 False messiahs and false prophets will come and do great miracles and wonders,[b] trying to fool the people God has chosen, if that is possible. 25 Now I have warned you about this before it happens.

26 “Someone might tell you, ‘The Messiah is there in the desert!’ But don’t go into the desert to look for him. Someone else might say, ‘There is the Messiah in that room!’ But don’t believe it. 27 When the Son of Man comes, everyone will see him. It will be like lightning flashing in the sky that can be seen everywhere. 28 It’s like looking for a dead body: You will find it where the vultures are gathering above.

29 “Right after the trouble of those days, this will happen:

‘The sun will become dark,
    and the moon will not give light.
The stars will fall from the sky,
    and everything in the sky will be changed.’[c]

30 “Then there will be something in the sky that shows the Son of Man is coming. All the people of the world will cry. Everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds in the sky. He will come with power and great glory. 31 He will use a loud trumpet to send his angels all around the earth. They will gather his chosen people from every part of the earth.

32 “The fig tree teaches us a lesson: When its branches become green and soft, and new leaves begin to grow, then you know that summer is very near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things happening, you will know that the time[d] is very near, already present. 34 I assure you that all these things will happen while some of the people of this time are still living. 35 The whole world, earth and sky, will be destroyed, but my words will last forever.

Only God Knows When the Time Will Be(B)

36 “No one knows when that day or time will be. The Son and the angels in heaven don’t know when it will be. Only the Father knows.

37 “When the Son of Man comes, it will be the same as what happened during Noah’s time. 38 In those days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving their children to be married right up to the day Noah entered the boat. 39 They knew nothing about what was happening until the flood came and destroyed them all.

“It will be the same when the Son of Man comes. 40 Two men will be working together in the field. One will be taken and the other will be left. 41 Two women will be grinding grain with a mill. One will be taken and the other will be left.

42 “So always be ready. You don’t know the day your Lord will come. 43 What would a homeowner do if he knew when a thief was coming? You know he would be ready and not let the thief break in. 44 So you also must be ready. The Son of Man will come at a time when you don’t expect him.

Good Servants and Bad Servants(C)

45 “Who is the wise and trusted servant? The master trusts one servant to give the other servants their food at the right time. Who is the one the master trusts to do that work? 46 When the master comes and finds that servant doing the work he gave him, it will be a day of blessing for that servant. 47 I can tell you without a doubt, the master will choose that servant to take care of everything he owns.

48 “But what will happen if that servant is evil and thinks his master will not come back soon? 49 He will begin to beat the other servants. He will eat and drink with others who are drunk. 50 Then the master will come when the servant is not ready, at a time when the servant is not expecting him. 51 Then the master will punish that servant. He will send him away to be with the hypocrites, where people will cry and grind their teeth with pain.
