The Plot to Kill Jesus
26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, 2 “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 and they conspired to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. 5 But they said, “Not during the festival, or there may be a riot among the people.”
The Anointing at Bethany
6 Now while Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[a] 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very costly ointment, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table. 8 But when the disciples saw it, they were angry and said, “Why this waste? 9 For this ointment could have been sold for a large sum, and the money given to the poor.” 10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? She has performed a good service for me. 11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. 12 By pouring this ointment on my body she has prepared me for burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this good news[b] is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in remembrance of her.”
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
14 Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What will you give me if I betray him to you?” They paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment he began to look for an opportunity to betray him.
The Passover with the Disciples
17 On the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where do you want us to make the preparations for you to eat the Passover?” 18 He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is near; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’” 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover meal.
20 When it was evening, he took his place with the twelve;[c] 21 and while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.” 22 And they became greatly distressed and began to say to him one after another, “Surely not I, Lord?” 23 He answered, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that one by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that one not to have been born.” 25 Judas, who betrayed him, said, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” He replied, “You have said so.”
The Institution of the Lord’s Supper
26 While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is my blood of the[d] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will never again drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
30 When they had sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Peter’s Denial Foretold
31 Then Jesus said to them, “You will all become deserters because of me this night; for it is written,
‘I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32 But after I am raised up, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” 33 Peter said to him, “Though all become deserters because of you, I will never desert you.” 34 Jesus said to him, “Truly I tell you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.” 35 Peter said to him, “Even though I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And so said all the disciples.
Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and agitated. 38 Then he said to them, “I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and stay awake with me.” 39 And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not what I want but what you want.” 40 Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, “So, could you not stay awake with me one hour? 41 Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial;[e] the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 Again he went away for the second time and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” 43 Again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Get up, let us be going. See, my betrayer is at hand.”
The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, arrived; with him was a large crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 At once he came up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him. 50 Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you are here to do.” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and arrested him. 51 Suddenly, one of those with Jesus put his hand on his sword, drew it, and struck the slave of the high priest, cutting off his ear. 52 Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the scriptures be fulfilled, which say it must happen in this way?” 55 At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me as though I were a bandit? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56 But all this has taken place, so that the scriptures of the prophets may be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
Jesus before the High Priest
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, in whose house the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58 But Peter was following him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest; and going inside, he sat with the guards in order to see how this would end. 59 Now the chief priests and the whole council were looking for false testimony against Jesus so that they might put him to death, 60 but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward 61 and said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’” 62 The high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer? What is it that they testify against you?” 63 But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I put you under oath before the living God, tell us if you are the Messiah,[f] the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you,
From now on you will see the Son of Man
seated at the right hand of Power
and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66 What is your verdict?” They answered, “He deserves death.” 67 Then they spat in his face and struck him; and some slapped him, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, you Messiah![g] Who is it that struck you?”
Peter’s Denial of Jesus
69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant-girl came to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” 70 But he denied it before all of them, saying, “I do not know what you are talking about.” 71 When he went out to the porch, another servant-girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”[h] 72 Again he denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man.” 73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you.” 74 Then he began to curse, and he swore an oath, “I do not know the man!” At that moment the cock crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said: “Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

3 Allora i capi dei sacerdoti [, gli scribi] e gli anziani del popolo si riunirono nel palazzo del sommo sacerdote, che si chiamava Caiafa, 4 e deliberarono di prendere Gesù con inganno e di farlo morire. 5 Ma dicevano: «Non durante la festa, perché non accada qualche tumulto nel popolo».
Maria di Betania unge il capo a Gesù
6 (B)Mentre Gesù era a Betania, in casa di Simone il lebbroso, 7 venne a lui una donna che aveva un vaso di alabastro pieno d’olio profumato di gran valore e lo versò sul capo di lui che stava a tavola. 8 Veduto ciò, i [suoi] discepoli si indignarono e dissero: «Perché questo spreco? 9 Questo[a], infatti, si sarebbe potuto vendere caro e dare il denaro ai poveri». 10 Ma Gesù se ne accorse e disse loro: «Perché date noia a questa donna? Ha fatto una buona azione verso di me. 11 Perché i poveri li avete sempre con voi, ma me non mi avete sempre. 12 Versando quest’olio sul mio corpo, lo ha fatto in vista della mia sepoltura. 13 In verità vi dico che in tutto il mondo, dovunque sarà predicato questo vangelo, anche ciò che ella ha fatto sarà raccontato in memoria di lei».
Giuda decide di tradire Gesù
14 (C)Allora uno dei dodici, che si chiamava Giuda Iscariota, andò dai capi dei sacerdoti 15 e disse: «Che cosa siete disposti a darmi, se io ve lo consegno?» Ed essi gli fissarono trenta sicli d’argento. 16 Da quell’ora cercava il momento opportuno per consegnarlo.
L’ultima Pasqua
17 (D)Il primo giorno degli Azzimi i discepoli si avvicinarono a Gesù e [gli] dissero: «Dove vuoi che ti prepariamo da mangiare la Pasqua?» 18 Egli disse: «Andate in città dal tale e ditegli: “Il Maestro dice: ‘Il mio tempo è vicino; farò la Pasqua da te, con i miei discepoli’”». 19 E i discepoli fecero come Gesù aveva loro ordinato e prepararono la Pasqua.
20 Quando fu sera, si mise a tavola con i dodici. 21 Mentre mangiavano, disse: «In verità vi dico: uno di voi mi tradirà[b]». 22 Ed essi, profondamente rattristati, cominciarono ciascuno [di loro] a dirgli uno dopo l’altro: «Sono forse io, Signore?» 23 Ma egli rispose: «Colui che ha messo con me la mano nel piatto, quello mi tradirà. 24 Certo, il Figlio dell’uomo se ne va, come è scritto di lui; ma guai a quell’uomo dal quale il Figlio dell’uomo è tradito! Meglio sarebbe per quell’uomo se non fosse mai nato». 25 E Giuda, il traditore, prese a dire: «Sono forse io, Rabbì?» E Gesù a lui: «Lo hai detto».
La cena del Signore
26 (E)Mentre mangiavano, Gesù prese del pane e, dopo aver pronunciato la benedizione[c], lo spezzò e lo diede ai suoi discepoli dicendo: «Prendete, mangiate, questo è il mio corpo». 27 Poi prese un calice[d] e, dopo aver reso grazie, lo diede loro dicendo: «Bevetene tutti, 28 perché questo è il mio sangue, il sangue del [nuovo] patto, il quale è sparso per molti per il perdono dei peccati. 29 Vi dico che da ora in poi non berrò più di questo frutto della vigna, fino al giorno che lo berrò nuovo con voi nel regno del Padre mio».
Gesù predice il rinnegamento di Pietro
30 (F)Dopo che ebbero cantato l’inno, uscirono per andare al monte degli Ulivi.
31 Allora Gesù disse loro: «Questa notte voi tutti avrete in me un’occasione di caduta; perché è scritto: “Io percuoterò il pastore e le pecore del gregge saranno disperse”[e]. 32 Ma dopo che sarò risuscitato, vi precederò in Galilea». 33 Pietro, rispondendo, gli disse: «Quand’anche tu fossi per tutti un’occasione di caduta, non lo sarai mai per me». 34 Gesù gli disse: «In verità ti dico che questa stessa notte, prima che il gallo canti, tu mi rinnegherai tre volte». 35 E Pietro a lui: «Quand’anche dovessi morire con te, non ti rinnegherò». E lo stesso dissero pure tutti i discepoli.
Agonia di Gesù nel giardino del Getsemani
36 (G)Allora Gesù andò con loro in un podere chiamato Getsemani[f] e disse ai discepoli: «Sedete qui finché io sia andato là e abbia pregato». 37 E, presi con sé Pietro e i due figli di Zebedeo, cominciò a essere triste e angosciato. 38 Allora disse loro: «L’anima mia è oppressa da tristezza mortale; rimanete qui e vegliate con me». 39 E, andato un po’ più avanti, si gettò con la faccia a terra, pregando e dicendo: «Padre mio, se è possibile, passi oltre da me questo calice! Ma pure, non come voglio io, ma come tu vuoi». 40 Poi tornò dai discepoli e li trovò addormentati. E disse a Pietro: «Così non siete stati capaci di vegliare con me un’ora sola? 41 Vegliate e pregate, affinché non cadiate in tentazione[g]; lo spirito è pronto, ma la carne è debole». 42 Di nuovo, per la seconda volta, andò e pregò, dicendo: «Padre mio, se non è possibile che questo [calice] passi oltre da me senza che io lo beva, sia fatta la tua volontà». 43 E, tornato, li trovò addormentati, perché i loro occhi erano appesantiti. 44 Allora, lasciatili, andò di nuovo e pregò per la terza volta, ripetendo le medesime parole. 45 Poi tornò dai [suoi] discepoli e disse loro: «Dormite pure oramai, e riposatevi! Ecco, l’ora è vicina, e il Figlio dell’uomo è dato nelle mani dei peccatori. 46 Alzatevi, andiamo; ecco, colui che mi tradisce è vicino».
Arresto di Gesù
47 (H)Mentre parlava ancora, ecco arrivare Giuda, uno dei dodici, e insieme a lui una gran folla con spade e bastoni, da parte dei capi dei sacerdoti e degli anziani del popolo. 48 Colui che lo tradiva aveva dato loro un segnale, dicendo: «Quello che bacerò, è lui; prendetelo». 49 E in quell’istante, avvicinatosi a Gesù, gli disse: «Ti saluto, Rabbì!» e lo baciò. 50 Ma Gesù gli disse: «Amico, che cosa sei venuto a fare?» Allora, avvicinatisi, misero le mani addosso a Gesù e lo presero.
51 Ed ecco, uno di quelli che erano con Gesù, stesa la mano, tirò fuori la sua spada e, colpito il servo del sommo sacerdote, gli recise l’orecchio. 52 Allora Gesù gli disse: «Riponi la tua spada al suo posto, perché tutti quelli che prendono la spada periranno[h] di spada. 53 Credi forse che io non potrei pregare il Padre mio che mi mandi in questo istante più di dodici legioni[i] d’angeli[j]? 54 Come dunque si adempirebbero le Scritture, secondo le quali bisogna che così avvenga?»
55 In quel momento Gesù disse alla folla: «Voi siete usciti con spade e bastoni, come contro un brigante, per prendermi. Ogni giorno sedevo nel tempio a insegnare e voi non mi avete preso; 56 ma tutto questo è avvenuto affinché si adempissero le Scritture dei profeti». Allora tutti i discepoli lo abbandonarono e fuggirono.
Gesù davanti a Caiafa e al sinedrio
57 (I)Quelli che avevano preso Gesù lo condussero da Caiafa, sommo sacerdote, presso il quale erano riuniti gli scribi e gli anziani. 58 Pietro lo seguiva da lontano, finché giunsero al cortile del sommo sacerdote; ed entrò, mettendosi a sedere con le guardie, per vedere come la vicenda sarebbe finita.
59 I capi dei sacerdoti [, gli anziani] e tutto il sinedrio cercavano qualche falsa testimonianza contro Gesù per farlo morire; 60 e non ne trovavano, benché si fossero fatti avanti molti falsi testimoni[k]. 61 Alla fine se ne fecero avanti due[l], che dissero: «Costui ha detto: “Io posso distruggere il tempio di Dio e ricostruirlo in tre giorni”». 62 E il sommo sacerdote, alzatosi in piedi, gli disse: «Non rispondi nulla? Non senti quello che testimoniano costoro contro di te?» 63 Ma Gesù taceva. E il sommo sacerdote gli disse[m]: «Ti scongiuro per il Dio vivente di dirci se tu sei il Cristo, il Figlio di Dio». 64 Gesù gli rispose: «Tu l’hai detto; anzi vi dico che da ora in poi vedrete il Figlio dell’uomo seduto alla destra della Potenza e venire sulle nuvole del cielo»[n]. 65 Allora il sommo sacerdote si stracciò le vesti, dicendo: «Egli ha bestemmiato; che bisogno abbiamo ancora di testimoni? Ecco, ora avete udito la [sua] bestemmia; 66 che ve ne pare?» Ed essi risposero: «È reo di morte». 67 Allora gli sputarono in viso e gli diedero dei pugni e altri lo schiaffeggiarono[o], 68 dicendo: «Indovina[p], Cristo! Chi ti ha percosso?»
Gesù rinnegato tre volte da Pietro
69 (J)Pietro, intanto, stava seduto fuori nel cortile e una serva gli si avvicinò, dicendo: «Anche tu eri con Gesù il Galileo». 70 Ma egli lo negò davanti a tutti[q], dicendo: «Non so che cosa dici». 71 Come fu uscito nell’atrio, un’altra lo vide e disse a coloro che erano là: «[Anche] costui era con Gesù il Nazareno». 72 Ed egli negò di nuovo giurando: «Non conosco quell’uomo». 73 Di lì a poco, coloro che erano presenti si avvicinarono e dissero a Pietro: «Certo anche tu sei di quelli, perché anche il tuo parlare[r] ti fa riconoscere». 74 Allora egli cominciò a imprecare e a giurare: «Non conosco quell’uomo!» In quell’istante il gallo cantò. 75 Pietro si ricordò delle parole di Gesù che [gli] aveva dette: «Prima che il gallo canti, tu mi rinnegherai tre volte». E, andato fuori, pianse amaramente.

33 Ekkor Péter így szólt hozzá: "Ha mindenki meg is botránkozik benned, én soha meg nem botránkozom."
34 Jézus pedig ezt mondta neki: "Bizony, mondom néked, hogy ezen az éjszakán, mielőtt a kakas megszólal, háromszor tagadsz meg engem."
35 Péter így válaszolt: "Ha meg is kell halnom veled, akkor sem tagadlak meg." Ugyanígy beszélt a többi tanítvány is.
A Gecsemáné-kertben(F)
36 Akkor elment velük Jézus egy helyre, amelyet Gecsemánénak hívtak, és így szólt tanítványaihoz: "Üljetek le itt, amíg elmegyek, és amott imádkozom."

38 Akkor így szólt hozzájuk: "Szomorú az én lelkem mindhalálig: maradjatok itt, és virrasszatok velem!"
39 Egy kissé továbbment, arcra borult, és így imádkozott: "Atyám, ha lehetséges, távozzék el tőlem ez a pohár; mindazáltal ne úgy legyen, ahogyan én akarom, hanem amint te."
40 Amikor visszament a tanítványokhoz, alva találta őket, és így szólt Péterhez: "Ennyire nem tudtatok virrasztani velem egy órát sem?
41 Virrasszatok, és imádkozzatok, hogy kísértésbe ne essetek: a lélek ugyan kész, de a test erőtlen."
42 Másodszor is elment, és így imádkozott: "Atyám, ha nem távozhat el tőlem ez a pohár, hanem ki kell innom, legyen meg a te akaratod."
43 Amikor visszament, ismét alva találta őket, mert elnehezült a szemük.
44 Otthagyta őket, újra elment, harmadszor is imádkozott ugyanazokkal a szavakkal.
45 Azután visszatért a tanítványokhoz, és így szólt hozzájuk: "Aludjatok tovább és pihenjetek! Íme, eljött az óra, és az Emberfia bűnösök kezébe adatik.
46 Ébredjetek, menjünk! Íme, közel van az, aki engem elárul."
Jézus elfogatása(G)
47 Még beszélt, amikor megjött Júdás, egy a tizenkettő közül, és nagy sokaság jött vele kardokkal és botokkal a főpapoktól és a nép véneitől.
48 Az árulója ezt az ismertetőjelet adta meg nekik: "Akit megcsókolok, az lesz ő, azt fogjátok el!"
49 Majd egyenest Jézushoz menve így szólt: "Üdvözlégy, Mester!" - és megcsókolta őt.
50 Jézus ezt mondta neki: "Barátom, hát ezért jöttél!" Akkor odamentek, rátették a kezüket, és elfogták.
51 Egy pedig azok közül, akik Jézussal voltak, kardjához kapott, kirántotta, lecsapott a főpap szolgájára, és levágta a fülét.
52 Ekkor így szólt hozzá Jézus: "Tedd vissza kardodat a helyére, mert akik kardot fognak, kard által vesznek el.
53 Vagy azt gondolod, hogy nem kérhetném meg Atyámat, hogy adjon mellém most tizenkét sereg angyalnál is többet?
54 De miképpen teljesednének be akkor az Írások, hogy ennek így kell történnie?"
55 Abban az órában így szólt Jézus a sokasághoz: "Úgy vonultatok ki, mint valami rabló ellen, kardokkal és botokkal, hogy elfogjatok; mindennap a templomban ültem és tanítottam, mégsem fogtatok el.
56 Mindez pedig azért történt, hogy beteljesedjenek a próféták írásai." Akkor a tanítványok mind elhagyták őt, és elfutottak.
Jézus a nagytanács előtt(H)
57 Azok pedig, akik elfogták Jézust, elvitték Kajafáshoz, a főpaphoz, ahol összegyűltek az írástudók és a vének.
58 Péter távolról követte őt egészen a főpap palotájának udvaráig, és bement, leült a szolgákkal, hogy lássa, mi lesz a dolog vége.
59 A főpapok pedig az egész nagytanáccsal együtt igyekeztek hamis tanúvallomásra szert tenni Jézus ellen, hogy halálra adhassák,
60 de nem találtak, pedig sok hamis tanú állt elő. Végül előálltak ketten,
61 akik azt állították, hogy Jézus ezt mondta: "Le tudom rombolni az Isten templomát, és három nap alatt fel tudom építeni."
62 A főpap felállt, és így szólt hozzá: "Semmit sem felelsz arra, amit ezek ellened vallanak?"
63 Jézus azonban hallgatott. A főpap ekkor azt mondta neki: "Az élő Istenre kényszerítelek, mondd meg nekünk, vajon te vagy-e a Krisztus, az Isten Fia!"
64 Jézus ekkor így felelt: "Te mondtad. Sőt azt mondom nektek: mostantól fogva meglátjátok az Emberfiát, amint a Hatalmas jobbján ül, és eljön az ég felhőin."
65 A főpap erre megszaggatta ruháját, és így szólt: "Istent káromolta. Mi szükségünk van még tanúkra? Íme, most hallottátok az istenkáromlást.
66 Mit gondoltok?" Azok így feleltek: "Méltó a halálra!"
67 Azután szembeköpték, arcul ütötték, mások pedig bottal verték,
68 és ezt mondták: "Prófétáld meg nekünk, Krisztus, ki ütött meg téged!"
Péter megtagadja Jézust(I)
69 Péter ezalatt kinn ült az udvaron. Odament hozzá egy szolgálóleány, és így szólt: "Te is a galileai Jézussal voltál."
70 Ő azonban tagadta mindenki előtt, és ezt mondta: "Nem tudom, mit beszélsz."
71 Mikor pedig kiment a kapuba, meglátta őt egy másik szolgálóleány, és ezt mondta az ott levőknek: "Ez a názáreti Jézussal volt."
72 Ő ismét tagadta, mégpedig esküvel: "Nem ismerem azt az embert."
73 Kis idő múlva az ott álldogálók mentek oda, és így szóltak Péterhez: "Bizony, közülük való vagy te is, hiszen a kiejtésed is árulkodik rólad."
74 Akkor átkozódni és esküdözni kezdett: "Nem ismerem azt az embert." És nyomban megszólalt a kakas.
75 Péter visszaemlékezett Jézus szavára, aki azt mondta neki: "Mielőtt megszólal a kakas, háromszor tagadsz meg engem." Aztán kiment onnan, és keserves sírásra fakadt.

26 Quand Jésus eut fini de donner toutes ces instructions, il dit à ses disciples : 2 Vous savez que la fête de la Pâque aura lieu dans deux jours. C’est alors que le Fils de l’homme sera livré pour être crucifié.
3 Alors, les chefs des prêtres et les responsables du peuple se rassemblèrent dans la cour du grand-prêtre Caïphe ; 4 ils décidèrent d’un commun accord de s’emparer de Jésus par ruse pour le faire mourir.
5 Cependant ils se disaient : Il ne faut pas agir pendant la fête, pour ne pas provoquer d’émeute parmi le peuple.
L’onction à Béthanie(B)
6 Jésus se trouvait à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon, le lépreux. 7 Une femme s’approcha de lui, tenant un flacon d’albâtre rempli d’un parfum de myrrhe de grande valeur[a]. Pendant que Jésus était à table, elle répandit ce parfum sur sa tête.
8 En voyant cela, les disciples s’indignèrent et dirent : Pourquoi un tel gaspillage ? 9 On aurait pu vendre ce parfum pour un bon prix et donner l’argent aux pauvres !
10 Mais, se rendant compte de cela, Jésus leur dit : Pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme ? Ce qu’elle vient d’accomplir pour moi est vraiment une belle action. 11 Des pauvres, vous en aurez toujours autour de vous ; mais moi, vous ne m’aurez pas toujours avec vous. 12 Si elle a répandu cette myrrhe sur moi, c’est pour préparer mon enterrement. 13 Vraiment, je vous l’assure, dans le monde entier, partout où cette Bonne Nouvelle qu’est l’Evangile sera annoncée, on racontera aussi, en souvenir d’elle, ce qu’elle vient de faire.
La trahison(C)
14 Alors, l’un des Douze, celui qui s’appelait Judas Iscariot, se rendit auprès des chefs des prêtres 15 pour leur demander : Si je me charge de vous livrer Jésus, quelle somme me donnerez-vous ?
Ils lui versèrent trente pièces d’argent. 16 A partir de ce moment-là, il chercha une occasion favorable pour leur livrer Jésus.
Jésus célèbre la Pâque avec ses disciples(D)
17 Le premier jour de la fête des Pains sans levain, les disciples vinrent trouver Jésus pour lui demander : Où veux-tu que nous fassions les préparatifs pour le repas de la Pâque ?
18 Il leur répondit : Allez à la ville, chez un tel, et parlez-lui ainsi : « Le Maître te fait dire : Mon heure est arrivée. C’est chez toi que je prendrai le repas de la Pâque avec mes disciples. »
19 Les disciples se conformèrent aux ordres de Jésus et préparèrent le repas de la Pâque.
(Mc 14.17-21 ; Lc 22.14, 21-23 ; Jn 13.21-30)
20 Le soir, Jésus se mit à table avec les Douze et, 21 pendant qu’ils mangeaient, il dit : Vraiment, je vous l’assure : l’un de vous me trahira.
22 Les disciples en furent consternés. Ils se mirent, l’un après l’autre, à lui demander : Seigneur, ce n’est pas moi, n’est-ce pas ?
23 En réponse, il leur dit : C’est un qui a trempé son pain dans le plat avec moi, lui, il me trahira. 24 Certes, le Fils de l’homme s’en va conformément à ce que les Ecritures annoncent à son sujet. Mais malheur à celui qui le trahit ! Il aurait mieux valu pour lui n’être jamais né !
25 A son tour, Judas, qui le trahissait, lui demanda : Maître, ce n’est pas moi, n’est-ce pas ?
– Tu le dis toi-même, lui répondit Jésus.

26 Au cours du repas, Jésus prit du pain puis, après avoir prononcé la prière de reconnaissance, il le partagea en morceaux, puis il les donna à ses disciples, en disant : Prenez, mangez, ceci est mon corps.
27 Ensuite il prit une coupe et, après avoir remercié Dieu, il la leur donna en disant : Buvez-en tous ; 28 ceci est mon sang, par lequel est scellée l’alliance. Il va être versé pour beaucoup d’hommes, afin que leurs péchés soient pardonnés. 29 Je vous le déclare : désormais, je ne boirai plus du fruit de la vigne jusqu’au jour où je boirai le vin nouveau avec vous dans le royaume de mon Père.
Jésus annonce le reniement de Pierre(E)
30 Après cela, ils chantèrent les psaumes de la Pâque[b]. Ensuite, ils sortirent pour se rendre au mont des Oliviers.
31 Jésus leur dit alors : Cette nuit, ce qui m’arrivera vous ébranlera tous dans votre foi. En effet, il est écrit :
Je frapperai le berger,
et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées[c] .
32 Néanmoins, quand je serai ressuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée.
33 Pierre prit la parole et lui dit : Même si tous les autres sont ébranlés à cause de ce qui t’arrivera, moi je ne le serai pas !
34 Jésus reprit : Vraiment, je te l’assure : cette nuit même, avant que le coq ait chanté, tu m’auras renié trois fois.
35 Pierre réaffirma : Même s’il me fallait mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai pas.
Et tous les disciples dirent la même chose.
Sur le mont des Oliviers(F)
36 Là-dessus, Jésus arriva avec eux en un lieu appelé Gethsémané. Il dit à ses disciples : Asseyez-vous ici pendant que je vais prier là-bas.
37 Il prit avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée. Il commença à être envahi d’une profonde tristesse, et l’angoisse le saisit. 38 Alors il leur dit : Je suis accablé de tristesse, à en mourir. Restez ici et veillez avec moi !
39 Puis il fit quelques pas, se laissa tomber la face contre terre, et pria ainsi : O Père, si tu le veux, écarte de moi cette coupe[d] ! Toutefois, que les choses se passent, non pas comme moi je le veux, mais comme toi tu le veux.
40 Ensuite, il revint auprès des disciples et les trouva endormis. Il dit à Pierre : Ainsi, vous n’avez pas été capables de veiller une seule heure avec moi ! 41 Veillez et priez, pour ne pas céder à la tentation[e]. L’esprit de l’homme est plein de bonne volonté, mais la nature humaine est bien faible.
42 Puis il s’éloigna une deuxième fois, et se remit à prier en disant : O mon Père, s’il n’est pas possible que cette coupe me soit épargnée, s’il faut que je la boive, alors, que ta volonté soit faite.
43 Il revint encore vers ses disciples et les trouva de nouveau endormis, car ils avaient tellement sommeil qu’ils n’arrivaient pas à garder les yeux ouverts.
44 Il les laissa donc, et s’éloigna de nouveau. Pour la troisième fois, il pria en répétant les mêmes paroles. 45 Lorsqu’il revint auprès de ses disciples, il leur dit : Vous dormez encore et vous vous reposez[f] ! L’heure est venue où le Fils de l’homme est livré entre les mains des pécheurs. 46 Levez-vous et allons-y. Car celui qui me trahit est là.
L’arrestation de Jésus(G)
47 Il n’avait pas fini de parler que Judas, l’un des Douze, survint, accompagné d’une troupe nombreuse armée d’épées et de gourdins. Cette troupe était envoyée par les chefs des prêtres et les responsables du peuple.
48 Le traître avait convenu avec eux d’un signe en disant : Celui que j’embrasserai, c’est lui, saisissez-vous de lui.
49 Aussitôt, il se dirigea vers Jésus et lui dit : Bonsoir, Maître !
Et il l’embrassa.
50 – Mon ami, lui dit Jésus, ce que tu es venu faire ici, fais-le !
Alors les autres s’avancèrent et, mettant la main sur Jésus, ils se saisirent de lui.
51 A ce moment, l’un des compagnons de Jésus porta la main à son épée, la dégaina, en frappa le serviteur du grand-prêtre et lui emporta l’oreille.
52 Jésus lui dit : Remets ton épée à sa place, car tous ceux qui se serviront de l’épée mourront par l’épée. 53 Penses-tu donc que je ne pourrais pas faire appel à mon Père ? A l’instant même, il enverrait des dizaines de milliers d’anges à mon secours. 54 Mais alors, comment les Ecritures, qui annoncent que tout doit se passer ainsi, s’accompliraient-elles ?
55 Là-dessus, Jésus dit à la troupe : Me prenez-vous pour un bandit, pour que vous soyez venus en force avec épées et gourdins afin de vous emparer de moi ? J’étais assis chaque jour dans la cour du Temple pour donner mon enseignement et vous ne m’avez pas arrêté ! 56 Mais tout ceci est arrivé pour que les écrits des prophètes s’accomplissent.
Alors tous les disciples l’abandonnèrent et prirent la fuite.
Jésus devant le Grand-Conseil(H)
57 Ceux qui avaient arrêté Jésus le conduisirent devant Caïphe, le grand-prêtre, chez qui les spécialistes de la Loi et les responsables du peuple s’étaient déjà rassemblés. 58 Pierre le suivit à distance jusqu’au palais du grand-prêtre et il entra dans la cour où il s’assit au milieu des gardes pour voir comment tout cela finirait.
59 Les chefs des prêtres et le Grand-Conseil au complet cherchaient un faux témoignage contre Jésus pour pouvoir le condamner à mort. 60 Mais, bien qu’un bon nombre de faux témoins se soient présentés, ils ne parvenaient pas à trouver de motif valable.
Finalement, il en vint tout de même deux 61 qui déclarèrent : Cet homme a dit : « Je peux démolir le temple de Dieu et le rebâtir en trois jours. »
62 Alors le grand-prêtre se leva et demanda à Jésus : Tu n’as rien à répondre aux témoignages qu’on vient de porter contre toi ?
63 Jésus garda le silence.
Alors le grand-prêtre reprit en disant : Je t’adjure, par le Dieu vivant, de nous déclarer si tu es le Messie, le Fils de Dieu.
64 Jésus lui répondit : Tu l’as dit toi-même. De plus, je vous le déclare : A partir de maintenant, vous verrez le Fils de l’homme siéger à la droite du Tout-Puissant[g] et venir en gloire sur les nuées du ciel[h].
65 A ces mots, le grand-prêtre déchira ses vêtements en signe de consternation et s’écria : Il vient de prononcer des paroles blasphématoires ! Qu’avons-nous encore besoin de témoins ? Vous venez vous-mêmes d’entendre le blasphème. 66 Quel est votre verdict ?
Ils répondirent : Il est passible de mort.
67 Alors, ils lui crachèrent au visage et le frappèrent. D’autres le giflèrent 68 en disant : Hé, Messie, fais le prophète ! Dis-nous qui vient de te frapper !
Pierre renie son Maître(I)
69 Pendant ce temps, Pierre était resté assis dehors, dans la cour intérieure.
Une servante s’approcha de lui et dit : Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus le Galiléen.
70 Mais Pierre le nia en disant devant tout le monde : Je ne vois pas ce que tu veux dire.
71 Comme il se dirigeait vers le porche pour sortir, une autre servante l’aperçut et dit à ceux qui étaient là : En voilà un qui était avec ce Jésus de Nazareth.
72 Il le nia de nouveau et il jura : Je ne connais pas cet homme !
73 Après un petit moment, ceux qui se tenaient dans la cour s’approchèrent de Pierre et lui dirent : C’est sûr, toi aussi, tu fais partie de ces gens ! C’est évident : il suffit d’entendre ton accent !
74 Alors Pierre se mit à dire : Je le jure ! Et que je sois maudit si ce n’est pas vrai : je ne connais pas cet homme.
Et aussitôt, un coq chanta.
75 Alors Pierre se souvint de ce que Jésus lui avait dit : « Avant que le coq chante, tu m’auras renié trois fois. » Il se glissa dehors et se mit à pleurer amèrement.
