Artisans for Building the Tabernacle(A)

31 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: (B)“See, I have called by name Bezalel the (C)son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have (D)filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.

“And I, indeed I, have appointed with him (E)Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the (F)gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you: (G)the tabernacle of meeting, (H)the ark of the Testimony and (I)the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furniture of the tabernacle— (J)the table and its utensils, (K)the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense, (L)the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and (M)the laver and its base— 10 (N)the [a]garments of ministry, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests, 11 (O)and the anointing oil and (P)sweet incense for the holy place. According to all that I have commanded you they shall do.”

The Sabbath Law

12 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 13 “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: (Q)‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who (R)sanctifies[b] you. 14 (S)You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who [c]profanes it shall surely be put to death; for (T)whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. 15 Work shall be done for (U)six days, but the (V)seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. 16 Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. 17 It is (W)a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for (X)in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ ”

18 And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses (Y)two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

The Gold Calf(Z)

32 Now when the people saw that Moses (AA)delayed coming down from the mountain, the people (AB)gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, (AC)“Come, make us [d]gods that shall (AD)go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who (AE)brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.”

And Aaron said to them, “Break off the (AF)golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” So all the people broke off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron. (AG)And he received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf.

Then they said, “This is your god, O Israel, that (AH)brought you out of the land of Egypt!”

So when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a (AI)proclamation and said, “Tomorrow is a feast to the Lord.” Then they rose early on the next day, offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people (AJ)sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

And the Lord said to Moses, (AK)“Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt (AL)have corrupted themselves. They have turned aside quickly out of the way which (AM)I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, (AN)‘This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’ ” And the Lord said to Moses, (AO)“I have seen this people, and indeed it is a [e]stiff-necked people! 10 Now therefore, (AP)let Me alone, that (AQ)My wrath may burn hot against them and I may [f]consume them. And (AR)I will make of you a great nation.”

11 (AS)Then Moses pleaded with [g]the Lord his God, and said: “Lord, why does Your wrath burn hot against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? 12 (AT)Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, ‘He brought them out to harm them, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce wrath, and (AU)relent from this harm to Your people. 13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You (AV)swore by Your own self, and said to them, (AW)‘I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven; and all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ” 14 So the Lord (AX)relented from the harm which He said He would do to His people.

15 And (AY)Moses turned and went down from the mountain, and the two tablets of the Testimony were in his hand. The tablets were written on both sides; on the one side and on the other they were written. 16 Now the (AZ)tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God engraved on the tablets.

17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.”

18 But he said:

It is not the noise of the shout of victory,
Nor the noise of the cry of defeat,
But the sound of singing I hear.”

19 So it was, as soon as he came near the camp, that (BA)he saw the calf and the dancing. So Moses’ anger became hot, and he cast the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain. 20 (BB)Then he took the calf which they had made, burned it in the fire, and ground it to powder; and he scattered it on the water and made the children of Israel drink it. 21 And Moses said to Aaron, (BC)“What did this people do to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?”

22 So Aaron said, “Do not let the anger of my lord become hot. (BD)You know the people, that they are set on evil. 23 For they said to me, ‘Make us gods that shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ 24 And I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them break it off.’ So they gave it to me, and I cast it into the fire, and this calf came out.”

25 Now when Moses saw that the people were (BE)unrestrained (for Aaron (BF)had not restrained them, to their shame among their enemies), 26 then Moses stood in the entrance of the camp, and said, “Whoever is on the Lord’s side—come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him. 27 And he said to them, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let every man put his sword on his side, and go in and out from entrance to entrance throughout the camp, and (BG)let every man kill his brother, every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’ ” 28 So the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses. And about three thousand men of the people fell that day. 29 (BH)Then Moses said, [h]“Consecrate yourselves today to the Lord, that He may bestow on you a blessing this day, for every man has opposed his son and his brother.”

30 Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, (BI)“You have committed a great sin. So now I will go up to the Lord; (BJ)perhaps I can (BK)make atonement for your sin.” 31 Then Moses (BL)returned to the Lord and said, “Oh, these people have committed a great sin, and have (BM)made for themselves a god of gold! 32 Yet now, if You will forgive their sin—but if not, I pray, (BN)blot me (BO)out of Your book which You have written.”

33 And the Lord said to Moses, (BP)“Whoever has sinned against Me, I will (BQ)blot him out of My book. 34 Now therefore, go, lead the people to the place of which I have (BR)spoken to you. (BS)Behold, My Angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, (BT)in the day when I (BU)visit for punishment, I will visit punishment upon them for their sin.”

35 So the Lord plagued the people because of (BV)what they did with the calf which Aaron made.

The Command to Leave Sinai

33 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Depart and go up from here, you (BW)and the people whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, (BX)‘To your descendants I will give it.’ (BY)And I will send My Angel before you, (BZ)and I will drive out the Canaanite and the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. Go up (CA)to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, lest (CB)I [i]consume you on the way, for you are a (CC)stiff-necked[j] people.”

And when the people heard this bad news, (CD)they mourned, (CE)and no one put on his ornaments. For the Lord had said to Moses, “Say to the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. I could come up into your midst in one moment and consume you. Now therefore, take off your [k]ornaments, that I may (CF)know what to do to you.’ ” So the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by Mount Horeb.

Moses Meets with the Lord

Moses took his tent and pitched it outside the camp, far from the camp, and (CG)called it the tabernacle of meeting. And it came to pass that everyone who (CH)sought the Lord went out to the tabernacle of meeting which was outside the camp. So it was, whenever Moses went out to the tabernacle, that all the people rose, and each man stood (CI)at his tent door and watched Moses until he had gone into the tabernacle. And it came to pass, when Moses entered the tabernacle, that the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord (CJ)talked with Moses. 10 All the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the tabernacle door, and all the people rose and (CK)worshiped, each man in his tent door. 11 So (CL)the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but (CM)his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.

The Promise of God’s Presence

12 Then Moses said to the Lord, “See, (CN)You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, (CO)‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’ 13 Now therefore, I pray, (CP)if I have found grace in Your sight, (CQ)show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is (CR)Your people.”

14 And He said, (CS)“My Presence will go with you, and I will give you (CT)rest.”

15 Then he said to Him, (CU)“If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, (CV)except You go with us? So we (CW)shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”

17 So the Lord said to Moses, (CX)“I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.”

18 And he said, “Please, show me (CY)Your glory.”

19 Then He said, “I will make all My (CZ)goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. (DA)I will be gracious to whom I will be (DB)gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for (DC)no man shall see Me, and live.” 21 And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. 22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you (DD)in the cleft of the rock, and will (DE)cover you with My hand while I pass by. 23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall (DF)not be seen.”

Moses Makes New Tablets(DG)

34 And the Lord said to Moses, (DH)“Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and (DI)I will write on these tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke. So be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself to Me there (DJ)on the top of the mountain. And no man shall (DK)come up with you, and let no man be seen throughout all the mountain; let neither flocks nor herds feed before that mountain.”

So he cut two tablets of stone like the first ones. Then Moses rose early in the morning and went up Mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him; and he took in his hand the two tablets of stone.

Now the Lord descended in the (DL)cloud and stood with him there, and (DM)proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord (DN)God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in (DO)goodness and (DP)truth, (DQ)keeping mercy for thousands, (DR)forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, (DS)by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

So Moses made haste and (DT)bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped. Then he said, “If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, (DU)let my Lord, I pray, go among us, even though we are a (DV)stiff-necked[l] people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as (DW)Your inheritance.”

The Covenant Renewed(DX)

10 And He said: “Behold, (DY)I make a covenant. Before all your people I will (DZ)do [m]marvels such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the Lord. For it is (EA)an awesome thing that I will do with you. 11 (EB)Observe what I command you this day. Behold, (EC)I am driving out from before you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. 12 (ED)Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst. 13 But you shall (EE)destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and (EF)cut down their wooden images 14 (for you shall worship (EG)no other god, for the Lord, whose (EH)name is Jealous, is a (EI)jealous God), 15 lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they (EJ)play the harlot with their gods and make sacrifice to their gods, and one of them (EK)invites you and you (EL)eat of his sacrifice, 16 and you take of (EM)his daughters for your sons, and his daughters (EN)play the harlot with their gods and make your sons play the harlot with their gods.

17 (EO)“You shall make no molded gods for yourselves.

18 “The Feast of (EP)Unleavened Bread you shall keep. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, in the appointed time of the month of Abib; for in the (EQ)month of Abib you came out from Egypt.

19 (ER)“All [n]that open the womb are Mine, and every male firstborn among your livestock, whether ox or sheep. 20 But (ES)the firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb. And if you will not redeem him, then you shall break his neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem.

“And none shall appear before Me (ET)empty-handed.

21 (EU)“Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; in plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.

22 “And you shall observe the Feast of Weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year’s end.

23 (EV)“Three times in the year all your men shall appear before the Lord, the Lord God of Israel. 24 For I will (EW)cast out the nations before you and enlarge your borders; neither will any man covet your land when you go up to appear before the Lord your God three times in the year.

25 “You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leaven, (EX)nor shall the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover be left until morning.

26 (EY)“The first of the firstfruits of your land you shall bring to the house of the Lord your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”

27 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write (EZ)these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” 28 (FA)So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And (FB)He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the [o]Ten Commandments.

The Shining Face of Moses

29 Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai (and the (FC)two tablets of the Testimony were in Moses’ hand when he came down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that (FD)the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him. 30 So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 Then Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him; and Moses talked with them. 32 Afterward all the children of Israel came near, (FE)and he gave them as commandments all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. 33 And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put (FF)a veil on his face. 34 But (FG)whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with Him, he would take the veil off until he came out; and he would come out and speak to the children of Israel whatever he had been commanded. 35 And whenever the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone, then Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with Him.

Sabbath Regulations

35 Then Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said to them, (FH)“These are the words which the Lord has commanded you to do: Work shall be done for (FI)six days, but the seventh day shall be a holy day for you, a Sabbath of rest to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to (FJ)death. (FK)You shall kindle no fire throughout your dwellings on the Sabbath day.”

Offerings for the Tabernacle(FL)

And Moses spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, (FM)“This is the thing which the Lord commanded, saying: ‘Take from among you an offering to the Lord. (FN)Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as an offering to the Lord: (FO)gold, silver, and bronze; (FP)blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, and (FQ)goats’ hair; ram skins dyed red, badger skins, and acacia wood; oil for the light, (FR)and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense; onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate.

Articles of the Tabernacle

10 (FS)‘All who are gifted artisans among you shall come and make all that the Lord has commanded: 11 (FT)the tabernacle, its tent, its covering, its clasps, its boards, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets; 12 (FU)the ark and its poles, with the mercy seat, and the veil of the covering; 13 the (FV)table and its poles, all its utensils, (FW)and the showbread; 14 also (FX)the lampstand for the light, its utensils, its lamps, and the oil for the light; 15 (FY)the incense altar, its poles, (FZ)the anointing oil, (GA)the sweet incense, and the screen for the door at the entrance of the tabernacle; 16 (GB)the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grating, its poles, all its utensils, and the laver and its base; 17 (GC)the hangings of the court, its pillars, their sockets, and the screen for the gate of the court; 18 the pegs of the tabernacle, the pegs of the court, and their cords; 19 (GD)the [p]garments of ministry, for ministering in the holy place—the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests.’ ”

The Tabernacle Offerings Presented

20 And all the congregation of the children of Israel departed from the presence of Moses. 21 Then everyone came (GE)whose heart [q]was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and they (GF)brought the Lord’s offering for the work of the tabernacle of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments. 22 They came, both men and women, as many as had a willing heart, and brought (GG)earrings and nose rings, rings and necklaces, all (GH)jewelry of gold, that is, every man who made an offering of gold to the Lord. 23 And (GI)every man, with whom was found blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, and goats’ hair, red skins of rams, and [r]badger skins, brought them. 24 Everyone who offered an offering of silver or bronze brought the Lord’s offering. And everyone with whom was found acacia wood for any work of the service, brought it. 25 All the women who were (GJ)gifted artisans spun yarn with their hands, and brought what they had spun, of blue, purple, and scarlet, and fine linen. 26 And all the women whose hearts [s]stirred with wisdom spun yarn of goats’ hair. 27 (GK)The rulers brought onyx stones, and the stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate, 28 and (GL)spices and oil for the light, for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense. 29 The children of Israel brought a (GM)freewill offering to the Lord, all the men and women whose hearts were willing to bring material for all kinds of work which the Lord, by the hand of Moses, had commanded to be done.

The Artisans Called by God(GN)

30 And Moses said to the children of Israel, “See, (GO)the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; 31 and He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and understanding, in knowledge and all manner of workmanship, 32 to design artistic works, to work in gold and silver and bronze, 33 in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of artistic workmanship.

34 “And He has put in his heart the ability to teach, in him and (GP)Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. 35 He has (GQ)filled them with skill to do all manner of work of the engraver and the designer and the tapestry maker, in blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine linen, and of the weaver—those who do every work and those who design artistic works.

Building the Tabernacle

36 “And Bezalel and Aholiab, and every (GR)gifted artisan in whom the Lord has put wisdom and understanding, to know how to do all manner of work for the service of the (GS)sanctuary,[t] shall do according to all that the Lord has commanded.”

The People Give More than Enough

Then Moses called Bezalel and Aholiab, and every gifted artisan in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, everyone (GT)whose heart [u]was stirred, to come and do the work. And they received from Moses all the (GU)offering which the children of Israel (GV)had brought for the work of the service of making the sanctuary. So they continued bringing to him freewill offerings every morning. Then all the craftsmen who were doing all the work of the sanctuary came, each from the work he was doing, and they spoke to Moses, saying, (GW)“The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which the Lord commanded us to do.”

So Moses gave a commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, “Let neither man nor woman do any more work for the offering of the sanctuary.” And the people were restrained from bringing, for the material they had was sufficient for all the work to be done—indeed too (GX)much.

Building the Tabernacle(GY)

(GZ)Then all the gifted artisans among them who worked on the tabernacle made ten curtains woven of fine linen, and of blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim they made them. The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; the curtains were all the same size. 10 And he coupled five curtains to one another, and the other five curtains he coupled to one another. 11 He made loops of blue yarn on the edge of the curtain on the selvedge of one set; likewise he did on the outer edge of the other curtain of the second set. 12 (HA)Fifty loops he made on one curtain, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the curtain on the end of the second set; the loops held one curtain to another. 13 And he made fifty clasps of gold, and coupled the curtains to one another with the clasps, that it might be one tabernacle.

14 (HB)He made curtains of goats’ hair for the tent over the tabernacle; he made eleven curtains. 15 The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; the eleven curtains were the same size. 16 He coupled five curtains by themselves and six curtains by themselves. 17 And he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in one set, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the curtain of the second set. 18 He also made fifty bronze clasps to couple the tent together, that it might be one. 19 (HC)Then he made a covering for the tent of ram skins dyed red, and a covering of [v]badger skins above that.

20 For the tabernacle (HD)he made boards of acacia wood, standing upright. 21 The length of each board was ten cubits, and the width of each board a cubit and a half. 22 Each board had two [w]tenons (HE)for binding one to another. Thus he made for all the boards of the tabernacle. 23 And he made boards for the tabernacle, twenty boards for the south side. 24 Forty sockets of silver he made to go under the twenty boards: two sockets under each of the boards for its two tenons. 25 And for the other side of the tabernacle, the north side, he made twenty boards 26 and their forty sockets of silver: two sockets under each of the boards. 27 For the west side of the tabernacle he made six boards. 28 He also made two boards for the two back corners of the tabernacle. 29 And they were coupled at the bottom and [x]coupled together at the top by one ring. Thus he made both of them for the two corners. 30 So there were eight boards and their sockets—sixteen sockets of silver—two sockets under each of the boards.

31 And he made (HF)bars of acacia wood: five for the boards on one side of the tabernacle, 32 five bars for the boards on the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle on the far side westward. 33 And he made the middle bar to pass through the boards from one end to the other. 34 He overlaid the boards with gold, made their rings of gold to be holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.

35 And he made (HG)a veil of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen; it was worked with an artistic design of cherubim. 36 He made for it four pillars of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold, with their hooks of gold; and he cast four sockets of silver for them.

37 He also made a (HH)screen for the tabernacle door, of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen, made by a [y]weaver, 38 and its five pillars with their hooks. And he overlaid their capitals and their rings with gold, but their five sockets were bronze.

Making the Ark of the Testimony(HI)

37 Then (HJ)Bezalel made (HK)the ark of acacia wood; two and a half cubits was its length, a cubit and a half its width, and a cubit and a half its height. He overlaid it with pure gold inside and outside, and made a molding of gold all around it. And he cast for it four rings of gold to be set in its four corners: two rings on one side, and two rings on the other side of it. He made poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold. And he put the poles into the rings at the sides of the ark, to bear the ark. He also made the (HL)mercy seat of pure gold; two and a half cubits was its length and a cubit and a half its width. He made two cherubim of beaten gold; he made them of one piece at the two ends of the mercy seat: one cherub at one end on this side, and the other cherub at the other end on that side. He made the cherubim at the two ends of one piece with the mercy seat. The cherubim spread out their wings above, and covered the (HM)mercy seat with their wings. They faced one another; the faces of the cherubim were toward the mercy seat.

Making the Table for the Showbread(HN)

10 He made (HO)the table of acacia wood; two cubits was its length, a cubit its width, and a cubit and a half its height. 11 And he overlaid it with pure gold, and made a molding of gold all around it. 12 Also he made a frame of a handbreadth all around it, and made a molding of gold for the frame all around it. 13 And he cast for it four rings of gold, and put the rings on the four corners that were at its four legs. 14 The rings were close to the frame, as holders for the poles to bear the table. 15 And he made the poles of acacia wood to bear the table, and overlaid them with gold. 16 He made of pure gold the utensils which were on the table: its (HP)dishes, its cups, its bowls, and its pitchers for pouring.

Making the Gold Lampstand(HQ)

17 He also made the (HR)lampstand of pure gold; of hammered work he made the lampstand. Its shaft, its branches, its bowls, its ornamental knobs, and its flowers were of the same piece. 18 And six branches came out of its sides: three branches of the lampstand out of one side, and three branches of the lampstand out of the other side. 19 There were three bowls made like almond blossoms on one branch, with an ornamental knob and a flower, and three bowls made like almond blossoms on the other branch, with an ornamental knob and a flower—and so for the six branches coming out of the lampstand. 20 And on the lampstand itself were four bowls made like almond blossoms, each with its ornamental knob and flower. 21 There was a knob under the first two branches of the same, a knob under the second two branches of the same, and a knob under the third two branches of the same, according to the six branches extending from it. 22 Their knobs and their branches were of one piece; all of it was one hammered piece of pure gold. 23 And he made its seven lamps, its (HS)wick-trimmers, and its trays of pure gold. 24 Of a talent of pure gold he made it, with all its utensils.

Making the Altar of Incense(HT)

25 (HU)He made the incense altar of acacia wood. Its length was a cubit and its width a cubit—it was square—and two cubits was its height. Its horns were of one piece with it. 26 And he overlaid it with pure gold: its top, its sides all around, and its horns. He also made for it a molding of gold all around it. 27 He made two rings of gold for it under its molding, by its two corners on both sides, as holders for the poles with which to bear it. 28 And he (HV)made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold.

Making the Anointing Oil and the Incense(HW)

29 He also made (HX)the holy anointing oil and the pure incense of sweet spices, according to the work of the perfumer.

Bezalel and Oholiab(A)

31 Then the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have chosen Bezalel(B) son of Uri, the son of Hur,(C) of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge(D) and with all kinds of skills(E) to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts. Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab(F) son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan,(G) to help him. Also I have given ability to all the skilled workers(H) to make everything I have commanded you: the tent of meeting,(I) the ark of the covenant law(J) with the atonement cover(K) on it, and all the other furnishings of the tent— the table(L) and its articles, the pure gold lampstand(M) and all its accessories, the altar of incense,(N) the altar of burnt offering(O) and all its utensils, the basin(P) with its stand— 10 and also the woven garments(Q), both the sacred garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when they serve as priests, 11 and the anointing oil(R) and fragrant incense(S) for the Holy Place. They are to make them just as I commanded(T) you.”

The Sabbath

12 Then the Lord said to Moses, 13 “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths.(U) This will be a sign(V) between me and you for the generations to come,(W) so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.(X)

14 “‘Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it is to be put to death;(Y) those who do any work on that day must be cut off from their people. 15 For six days work(Z) is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest,(AA) holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death. 16 The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath,(AB) celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. 17 It will be a sign(AC) between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.(AD)’”(AE)

18 When the Lord finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai,(AF) he gave him the two tablets of the covenant law, the tablets of stone(AG) inscribed by the finger of God.(AH)

The Golden Calf

32 When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain,(AI) they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods[a] who will go before(AJ) us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”(AK)

Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings(AL) that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. He took what they handed him and made it into an idol(AM) cast in the shape of a calf,(AN) fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods,[b](AO) Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”(AP)

When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival(AQ) to the Lord.” So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings.(AR) Afterward they sat down to eat and drink(AS) and got up to indulge in revelry.(AT)

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt,(AU) have become corrupt.(AV) They have been quick to turn away(AW) from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol(AX) cast in the shape of a calf.(AY) They have bowed down to it and sacrificed(AZ) to it and have said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’(BA)

“I have seen these people,” the Lord said to Moses, “and they are a stiff-necked(BB) people. 10 Now leave me alone(BC) so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy(BD) them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”(BE)

11 But Moses sought the favor(BF) of the Lord his God. “Lord,” he said, “why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?(BG) 12 Why should the Egyptians say, ‘It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth’?(BH) Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster(BI) on your people. 13 Remember(BJ) your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self:(BK) ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars(BL) in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land(BM) I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever.’” 14 Then the Lord relented(BN) and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.

15 Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant law(BO) in his hands.(BP) They were inscribed(BQ) on both sides, front and back. 16 The tablets were the work of God; the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.(BR)

17 When Joshua(BS) heard the noise of the people shouting, he said to Moses, “There is the sound of war in the camp.”

18 Moses replied:

“It is not the sound of victory,
    it is not the sound of defeat;
it is the sound of singing that I hear.”

19 When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf(BT) and the dancing,(BU) his anger burned(BV) and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces(BW) at the foot of the mountain. 20 And he took the calf the people had made and burned(BX) it in the fire; then he ground it to powder,(BY) scattered it on the water(BZ) and made the Israelites drink it.

21 He said to Aaron, “What did these people do to you, that you led them into such great sin?”

22 “Do not be angry,(CA) my lord,” Aaron answered. “You know how prone these people are to evil.(CB) 23 They said to me, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.’(CC) 24 So I told them, ‘Whoever has any gold jewelry, take it off.’ Then they gave me the gold, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf!”(CD)

25 Moses saw that the people were running wild and that Aaron had let them get out of control and so become a laughingstock(CE) to their enemies. 26 So he stood at the entrance to the camp and said, “Whoever is for the Lord, come to me.” And all the Levites rallied to him.

27 Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.’”(CF) 28 The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died. 29 Then Moses said, “You have been set apart to the Lord today, for you were against your own sons and brothers, and he has blessed you this day.”

30 The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin.(CG) But now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement(CH) for your sin.”

31 So Moses went back to the Lord and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed!(CI) They have made themselves gods of gold.(CJ) 32 But now, please forgive their sin(CK)—but if not, then blot me(CL) out of the book(CM) you have written.”

33 The Lord replied to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out(CN) of my book. 34 Now go, lead(CO) the people to the place(CP) I spoke of, and my angel(CQ) will go before you. However, when the time comes for me to punish,(CR) I will punish them for their sin.”

35 And the Lord struck the people with a plague because of what they did with the calf(CS) Aaron had made.

33 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath(CT) to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’(CU) I will send an angel(CV) before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.(CW) Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey.(CX) But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked(CY) people and I might destroy(CZ) you on the way.”

When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn(DA) and no one put on any ornaments. For the Lord had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people.(DB) If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy(DC) you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.’” So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments at Mount Horeb.(DD)

The Tent of Meeting

Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the “tent of meeting.”(DE) Anyone inquiring(DF) of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents,(DG) watching Moses until he entered the tent. As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud(DH) would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke(DI) with Moses. 10 Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to their tent.(DJ) 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face,(DK) as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua(DL) son of Nun did not leave the tent.

Moses and the Glory of the Lord

12 Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’(DM) but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name(DN) and you have found favor(DO) with me.’ 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways(DP) so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”(DQ)

14 The Lord replied, “My Presence(DR) will go with you, and I will give you rest.”(DS)

15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence(DT) does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us?(DU) What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”(DV)

17 And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked,(DW) because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”(DX)

18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”(DY)

19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass(DZ) in front of you, and I will proclaim my name,(EA) the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.(EB) 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see(EC) me and live.”

21 Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock(ED) and cover you with my hand(EE) until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”

The New Stone Tablets

34 The Lord said to Moses, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones,(EF) and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets,(EG) which you broke.(EH) Be ready in the morning, and then come up on Mount Sinai.(EI) Present yourself to me there on top of the mountain. No one is to come with you or be seen anywhere on the mountain;(EJ) not even the flocks and herds may graze in front of the mountain.”

So Moses chiseled(EK) out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning, as the Lord had commanded him; and he carried the two stone tablets in his hands.(EL) Then the Lord came down in the cloud(EM) and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord.(EN) And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate(EO) and gracious God, slow to anger,(EP) abounding in love(EQ) and faithfulness,(ER) maintaining love to thousands,(ES) and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.(ET) Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished;(EU) he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”(EV)

Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped. “Lord,” he said, “if I have found favor(EW) in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us.(EX) Although this is a stiff-necked(EY) people, forgive our wickedness and our sin,(EZ) and take us as your inheritance.”(FA)

10 Then the Lord said: “I am making a covenant(FB) with you. Before all your people I will do wonders(FC) never before done in any nation in all the world.(FD) The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you. 11 Obey what I command(FE) you today. I will drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.(FF) 12 Be careful not to make a treaty(FG) with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare(FH) among you. 13 Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles.[c](FI) 14 Do not worship any other god,(FJ) for the Lord, whose name(FK) is Jealous, is a jealous God.(FL)

15 “Be careful not to make a treaty(FM) with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute(FN) themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices.(FO) 16 And when you choose some of their daughters as wives(FP) for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods,(FQ) they will lead your sons to do the same.

17 “Do not make any idols.(FR)

18 “Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread.(FS) For seven days eat bread made without yeast,(FT) as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Aviv,(FU) for in that month you came out of Egypt.

19 “The first offspring(FV) of every womb belongs to me, including all the firstborn males of your livestock, whether from herd or flock. 20 Redeem the firstborn donkey with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck.(FW) Redeem all your firstborn sons.(FX)

“No one is to appear before me empty-handed.(FY)

21 “Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest;(FZ) even during the plowing season and harvest(GA) you must rest.

22 “Celebrate the Festival of Weeks with the firstfruits(GB) of the wheat harvest, and the Festival of Ingathering(GC) at the turn of the year.[d] 23 Three times(GD) a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord, the God of Israel. 24 I will drive out nations(GE) before you and enlarge your territory,(GF) and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the Lord your God.

25 “Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast,(GG) and do not let any of the sacrifice from the Passover Festival remain until morning.(GH)

26 “Bring the best of the firstfruits(GI) of your soil to the house of the Lord your God.

“Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.”(GJ)

27 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write(GK) down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant(GL) with you and with Israel.” 28 Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights(GM) without eating bread or drinking water.(GN) And he wrote on the tablets(GO) the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.(GP)

The Radiant Face of Moses

29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai(GQ) with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands,(GR) he was not aware that his face was radiant(GS) because he had spoken with the Lord. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community(GT) came back to him, and he spoke to them. 32 Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands(GU) the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai.

33 When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil(GV) over his face. 34 But whenever he entered the Lord’s presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, 35 they saw that his face was radiant.(GW) Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the Lord.

Sabbath Regulations

35 Moses assembled the whole Israelite community and said to them, “These are the things the Lord has commanded(GX) you to do: For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a day of sabbath(GY) rest to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it is to be put to death.(GZ) Do not light a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.(HA)

Materials for the Tabernacle(HB)(HC)

Moses said to the whole Israelite community, “This is what the Lord has commanded: From what you have, take an offering for the Lord. Everyone who is willing is to bring to the Lord an offering of gold, silver and bronze; blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair; ram skins dyed red and another type of durable leather[e]; acacia wood; olive oil(HD) for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece.

10 “All who are skilled among you are to come and make everything the Lord has commanded:(HE) 11 the tabernacle(HF) with its tent and its covering, clasps, frames, crossbars, posts and bases; 12 the ark(HG) with its poles and the atonement cover and the curtain(HH) that shields it; 13 the table(HI) with its poles and all its articles and the bread of the Presence; 14 the lampstand(HJ) that is for light with its accessories, lamps and oil for the light; 15 the altar(HK) of incense with its poles, the anointing oil(HL) and the fragrant incense;(HM) the curtain for the doorway at the entrance to the tabernacle;(HN) 16 the altar(HO) of burnt offering with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils; the bronze basin(HP) with its stand; 17 the curtains of the courtyard with its posts and bases, and the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard;(HQ) 18 the tent pegs(HR) for the tabernacle and for the courtyard, and their ropes; 19 the woven garments worn for ministering in the sanctuary—both the sacred garments(HS) for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when they serve as priests.”

20 Then the whole Israelite community withdrew from Moses’ presence, 21 and everyone who was willing and whose heart moved them came and brought an offering to the Lord for the work on the tent of meeting, for all its service, and for the sacred garments. 22 All who were willing, men and women alike, came and brought gold jewelry of all kinds: brooches, earrings, rings and ornaments. They all presented their gold as a wave offering to the Lord. 23 Everyone who had blue, purple or scarlet yarn(HT) or fine linen, or goat hair, ram skins dyed red or the other durable leather brought them. 24 Those presenting an offering of silver or bronze brought it as an offering to the Lord, and everyone who had acacia wood for any part of the work brought it. 25 Every skilled woman(HU) spun with her hands and brought what she had spun—blue, purple or scarlet yarn or fine linen. 26 And all the women who were willing and had the skill spun the goat hair. 27 The leaders(HV) brought onyx stones and other gems(HW) to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece. 28 They also brought spices and olive oil for the light and for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense.(HX) 29 All the Israelite men and women who were willing(HY) brought to the Lord freewill offerings(HZ) for all the work the Lord through Moses had commanded them to do.

Bezalel and Oholiab(IA)

30 Then Moses said to the Israelites, “See, the Lord has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 31 and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills(IB) 32 to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, 33 to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic crafts. 34 And he has given both him and Oholiab(IC) son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach(ID) others. 35 He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work(IE) as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers. 36 So Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person(IF) to whom the Lord has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary(IG) are to do the work just as the Lord has commanded.”

Then Moses summoned Bezalel(IH) and Oholiab(II) and every skilled person to whom the Lord had given ability and who was willing(IJ) to come and do the work. They received from Moses all the offerings(IK) the Israelites had brought to carry out the work of constructing the sanctuary. And the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning. So all the skilled workers who were doing all the work on the sanctuary left what they were doing and said to Moses, “The people are bringing more than enough(IL) for doing the work the Lord commanded to be done.”

Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: “No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” And so the people were restrained from bringing more, because what they already had was more(IM) than enough to do all the work.

The Tabernacle(IN)

All those who were skilled among the workers made the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim woven into them by expert hands. All the curtains were the same size—twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide.[f] 10 They joined five of the curtains together and did the same with the other five. 11 Then they made loops of blue material along the edge of the end curtain in one set, and the same was done with the end curtain in the other set. 12 They also made fifty loops on one curtain and fifty loops on the end curtain of the other set, with the loops opposite each other. 13 Then they made fifty gold clasps and used them to fasten the two sets of curtains together so that the tabernacle was a unit.(IO)

14 They made curtains of goat hair for the tent over the tabernacle—eleven altogether. 15 All eleven curtains were the same size—thirty cubits long and four cubits wide.[g] 16 They joined five of the curtains into one set and the other six into another set. 17 Then they made fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain in one set and also along the edge of the end curtain in the other set. 18 They made fifty bronze clasps to fasten the tent together as a unit.(IP) 19 Then they made for the tent a covering of ram skins dyed red, and over that a covering of the other durable leather.[h]

20 They made upright frames of acacia wood for the tabernacle. 21 Each frame was ten cubits long and a cubit and a half wide,[i] 22 with two projections set parallel to each other. They made all the frames of the tabernacle in this way. 23 They made twenty frames for the south side of the tabernacle 24 and made forty silver bases to go under them—two bases for each frame, one under each projection. 25 For the other side, the north side of the tabernacle, they made twenty frames 26 and forty silver bases—two under each frame. 27 They made six frames for the far end, that is, the west end of the tabernacle, 28 and two frames were made for the corners of the tabernacle at the far end. 29 At these two corners the frames were double from the bottom all the way to the top and fitted into a single ring; both were made alike. 30 So there were eight frames and sixteen silver bases—two under each frame.

31 They also made crossbars of acacia wood: five for the frames on one side of the tabernacle, 32 five for those on the other side, and five for the frames on the west, at the far end of the tabernacle. 33 They made the center crossbar so that it extended from end to end at the middle of the frames. 34 They overlaid the frames with gold and made gold rings to hold the crossbars. They also overlaid the crossbars with gold.

35 They made the curtain(IQ) of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim woven into it by a skilled worker. 36 They made four posts of acacia wood for it and overlaid them with gold. They made gold hooks for them and cast their four silver bases. 37 For the entrance to the tent they made a curtain of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen—the work of an embroiderer;(IR) 38 and they made five posts with hooks for them. They overlaid the tops of the posts and their bands with gold and made their five bases of bronze.

The Ark(IS)

37 Bezalel(IT) made the ark(IU) of acacia wood—two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.[j] He overlaid it with pure gold,(IV) both inside and out, and made a gold molding around it. He cast four gold rings for it and fastened them to its four feet, with two rings on one side and two rings on the other. Then he made poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold. And he inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry it.

He made the atonement cover(IW) of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. Then he made two cherubim(IX) out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. He made one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; at the two ends he made them of one piece with the cover. The cherubim had their wings spread upward, overshadowing(IY) the cover with them. The cherubim faced each other, looking toward the cover.(IZ)

The Table(JA)

10 They[k] made the table(JB) of acacia wood—two cubits long, a cubit wide and a cubit and a half high.[l] 11 Then they overlaid it with pure gold(JC) and made a gold molding around it. 12 They also made around it a rim a handbreadth[m] wide and put a gold molding on the rim. 13 They cast four gold rings for the table and fastened them to the four corners, where the four legs were. 14 The rings(JD) were put close to the rim to hold the poles used in carrying the table. 15 The poles for carrying the table were made of acacia wood and were overlaid with gold. 16 And they made from pure gold the articles for the table—its plates and dishes and bowls and its pitchers for the pouring out of drink offerings.

The Lampstand(JE)

17 They made the lampstand(JF) of pure gold. They hammered out its base and shaft, and made its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms of one piece with them. 18 Six branches extended from the sides of the lampstand—three on one side and three on the other. 19 Three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms were on one branch, three on the next branch and the same for all six branches extending from the lampstand. 20 And on the lampstand were four cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms. 21 One bud was under the first pair of branches extending from the lampstand, a second bud under the second pair, and a third bud under the third pair—six branches in all. 22 The buds and the branches were all of one piece with the lampstand, hammered out of pure gold.(JG)

23 They made its seven lamps,(JH) as well as its wick trimmers and trays, of pure gold. 24 They made the lampstand and all its accessories from one talent[n] of pure gold.

The Altar of Incense(JI)

25 They made the altar of incense(JJ) out of acacia wood. It was square, a cubit long and a cubit wide and two cubits high[o]—its horns(JK) of one piece with it. 26 They overlaid the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and made a gold molding around it. 27 They made two gold rings(JL) below the molding—two on each of the opposite sides—to hold the poles used to carry it. 28 They made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold.(JM)

29 They also made the sacred anointing oil(JN) and the pure, fragrant incense(JO)—the work of a perfumer.
