³⁸ And Peter said to them, “^(A)Repent, and each of you be ^(B)baptized in the name of Jesus Christ ^[a]for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁶ For He had ^(A)not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been ^(B)baptized ^[a]in the name of the Lord Jesus.

³ Or do you not know that all of us who were ^(A)baptized into ^(B)Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

^13 [a]Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you ^(A)baptized ^[b]in the name of Paul?

¹⁵ so that no one would say you were baptized ^[a]in my name. ¹⁶ Now I did baptize also the ^(A)household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any other. ^17 (B)For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to proclaim the gospel, ^(C)not in wisdom of word, so that the cross of Christ will not be made empty.

Christ the Power and Wisdom of God

¹⁸ For the word of the cross is ^(D)foolishness to ^(E)those who ^[b]are perishing, but to us who ^[c]are being saved, it is ^(F)the power of God. ¹⁹ For it is written,

^20 (H)Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of ^(I)this age? Has not God ^(J)made foolish the wisdom of ^(K)the world? ²¹ For since, in the wisdom of God, ^(L)the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, ^(M)God was well-pleased, through the ^(N)foolishness of the ^[d]message preached, to ^(O)save those who believe. ²² For indeed ^(P)Jews ask for ^[e]signs and Greeks search for wisdom, ²³ but we preach ^[f](Q)Christ crucified, ^(R)to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles ^(S)foolishness, ²⁴ but to those who are ^(T)the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ ^(U)the power of God and ^(V)the wisdom of God. ²⁵ Because the ^(W)foolishness of God is wiser than men, and ^(X)the weakness of God is stronger than men.

²⁶ For ^[g]consider your ^(Y)calling, brothers, that there were ^(Z)not many wise according to ^[h]the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble. ²⁷ But ^(AA)God has chosen the foolish things of ^(AB)the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of ^(AC)the world to shame the things which are strong, ²⁸ and the base things of ^(AD)the world and the despised God has chosen, ^(AE)the things that are not, so that He may ^(AF)abolish the things that are, ²⁹ so that ^(AG)no flesh may boast before God. ³⁰ But by His doing you are in ^(AH)Christ Jesus, who became to us ^(AI)wisdom from God, ^[i]and ^(AJ)righteousness and ^(AK)sanctification, and ^(AL)redemption, ³¹ so that, just as it is written, “^(AM)Let him who boasts, boast in the ^[j]Lord.”

²⁷ For all of you who were ^(A)baptized into Christ have ^(B)clothed yourselves with Christ.
