Jesus Heals a Paralytic
9 And getting into a boat, Jesus crossed over the sea and came to (A)His own city.
2 (B)And behold, they brought to Him a (C)paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, “(D)Take courage, [a]son; (E)your sins are forgiven.” 3 And behold, some of the scribes said [b]to themselves, “This man (F)blasphemes.” 4 And Jesus (G)knowing their thoughts said, “Why are you thinking evil in your hearts? 5 For which is easier, to say, ‘(H)Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 6 But so that you may know that (I)the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—then He *said to the (J)paralytic, “Get up, pick up your bed and go home.” 7 And he got up and [c]went home. 8 But when the crowds saw this, they were afraid, and (K)glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
Matthew and Sinners Called
9 (L)And as Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called (M)Matthew, sitting in the tax office; and He *said to him, “(N)Follow Me!” And he stood up and followed Him.
10 [d]Then it happened that as [e]Jesus was reclining at the table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and [f]sinners came and were dining with Jesus and His disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, “(O)Why is your Teacher eating with the tax collectors and sinners?” 12 But when Jesus heard this, He said, “It is not (P)those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick. 13 But go and learn [g](Q)what this means: ‘(R)I desire [h]compassion, [i]and not sacrifice,’ for (S)I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
A Question About Fasting
14 Then the disciples of John *came to Him, [j]asking, “Why do we and (T)the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” 15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the [k]attendants of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. 16 But no one puts [l]a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for [m]the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results. 17 Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Miracles of Healing
18 (U)While He was saying these things to them, behold, [n]a synagogue [o]official came and [p](V)was bowing down before Him, and said, “My daughter has just died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.” 19 And Jesus got up and began to follow him, and so did His disciples.
20 And behold, a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched (W)the [q]fringe of His [r]garment; 21 for she was saying [s]to herself, “If I only (X)touch His garment, I will [t]be saved from this.” 22 But Jesus turning and seeing her said, “Daughter, (Y)take courage; (Z)your faith has [u]saved you.” [v]At once the woman was [w]saved from her hemorrhage.
23 And when Jesus came into the [x]official’s house, and saw (AA)the flute-players and the crowd in noisy disorder, 24 He was saying, “Leave; for the girl (AB)has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him. 25 But (AC)when the crowd had been sent out, coming in, He (AD)took her by the hand, and the girl [y]got up. 26 (AE)And this news spread throughout all that land.
27 And as Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, [z]crying out, “Have mercy on us, (AF)Son of David!” 28 And when He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus *said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They *said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” 29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “[aa]It shall be done to you (AG)according to your faith.” 30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus (AH)sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows about this!” 31 But they went out and (AI)spread the news about Him throughout all that land.
32 Now as they were going out, behold, (AJ)a mute, (AK)demon-possessed man [ab]was brought to Him. 33 And after the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds marveled, saying, “(AL)Nothing like this has [ac]ever been seen in Israel.” 34 But the Pharisees were saying, “He (AM)casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”
35 And Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, (AN)teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.
36 (AO)And seeing the crowds, He felt compassion for them, (AP)because they were [ad]distressed and [ae]downcast like sheep [af]without a shepherd. 37 Then He *said to His disciples, “(AQ)The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”

Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man
9 Jesus got into a boat and went back across the lake to his own town. 2 Some people brought to Jesus a man who was paralyzed. The man was lying on his mat. Jesus saw that these people had great faith, so he said to the paralyzed man, “Be happy, young man. Your sins are forgiven.”
3 Some of the teachers of the law heard this. They said to themselves, “This man speaks as if he were God—that is blasphemy!”[a]
4 Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he said, “Why are you thinking evil thoughts? 5 Which is easier: to tell this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to tell him, ‘Stand up and walk’? 6 But I will prove to you that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Stand up. Take your mat and go home.” 7 And the man stood up and went home. 8 The people saw this and were amazed. They praised God for giving power like this to men.
Jesus Chooses Matthew
9 When Jesus was leaving, he saw a man named Matthew. Matthew was sitting in the tax office. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” And Matthew stood up and followed Jesus.
10 Jesus had dinner at Matthew’s house. Many tax collectors and “sinners” came and ate with Jesus and his followers. 11 The Pharisees saw this and asked Jesus’ followers, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?”
12 Jesus heard the Pharisees ask this. So he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor. Only the sick need a doctor. 13 Go and learn what this means: ‘I want faithful love more than I want animal sacrifices.’[b] I did not come to invite good people. I came to invite sinners.”
Jesus Is Not Like Other Jews
14 Then the followers of John[c] came to Jesus. They said to Jesus, “We and the Pharisees often give up eating.[d] But your followers don’t. Why?”
15 Jesus answered, “The friends of the bridegroom are not sad while he is with them. But the time will come when the bridegroom will leave them. Then his friends are sad, and they will give up eating.
16 “When someone sews a patch over a hole in an old coat, he never uses a piece of cloth that is not yet shrunk. If he does, the patch will shrink and pull away from the coat. Then the hole will be worse. 17 Also, people never pour new wine into old leather bags for holding wine. If they do, the old bags will break. The wine will spill, and the wine bags will be ruined. But people always pour new wine into new wine bags. Then the wine and the wine bags will continue to be good.”
Jesus Gives Life to a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman
18 While Jesus was saying these things, a ruler of the synagogue came to him. The ruler bowed down before Jesus and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and touch her with your hand, and she will live again.”
19 So Jesus stood up and went with the ruler. Jesus’ followers went too.
20 Then a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years came behind Jesus and touched the edge of his coat. 21 She was thinking, “If I can touch his coat, then I will be healed.”
22 Jesus turned and saw the woman. He said, “Be happy, dear woman. You are made well because you believed.” And the woman was healed at once.
23 Jesus continued along with the ruler and went into the ruler’s house. Jesus saw people there who play music for funerals. And he saw many people there crying. 24 Jesus said, “Go away. The girl is not dead. She is only asleep.” But the people laughed at Jesus. 25 After the crowd had been put outside, Jesus went into the girl’s room. He took her hand, and she stood up. 26 The news about this spread all around the area.
Jesus Heals More People
27 When Jesus was leaving there, two blind men followed him. They cried out, “Show kindness to us, Son of David!”
28 Jesus went inside, and the blind men went with him. He asked the men, “Do you believe that I can make you see again?”
They answered, “Yes, Lord.”
29 Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, “You believe that I can make you see again. So this will happen.” 30 Then the men were able to see. But Jesus warned them very strongly, saying, “Don’t tell anyone about this.” 31 But the blind men left and spread the news about Jesus all around that area.
32 When the two men were leaving, some people brought another man to Jesus. This man could not talk because he had a demon in him. 33 Jesus forced the demon to leave the man. Then the man who couldn’t talk was able to speak. The crowd was amazed and said, “We have never seen anything like this in Israel.”
34 But the Pharisees said, “The leader of demons is the one that gives him power to force demons out.”
35 Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages. He taught in their synagogues and told people the Good News about the kingdom. And he healed all kinds of diseases and sicknesses. 36 He saw the crowds of people and felt sorry for them because they were worried and helpless. They were like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Jesus said to his followers, “There are many people to harvest, but there are only a few workers to help harvest them. 38 God owns the harvest. Pray to him that he will send more workers to help gather his harvest.”[e]

Matthew 9
Wycliffe Bible
9 And Jesus went up into a boat, and passed over the water, and came into his city.
2 And lo! they brought to him a man sick in palsy, lying in a bed. And Jesus saw the faith of them, and said to the man sick in palsy, Son, have thou trust; thy sins be forgiven to thee [Forsooth Jesus, seeing the faith of them, said to the man sick in palsy, Son, have trust; thy sins be forgiven to thee].
3 And lo! some of the scribes said within themselves, This blasphemeth.
4 And when Jesus had seen their thoughts, he said, Whereto think ye evil things in your hearts?
5 What is lighter to say, Thy sins be forgiven to thee, either to say [or to say], Rise thou, and walk?
6 But that ye know that man's Son hath power to forgive sins in earth, then he said to the sick man in palsy [then he said to the man sick in palsy], Rise up; take thy bed, and go into thine house.
7 And he rose, and went into his house.
8 And the people seeing dreaded [Soothly the companies seeing dreaded], and glorified God, that gave such power to men.
9 And when Jesus passed from thence, he saw a man, Matthew by name, sitting in a tollbooth. And he said to him, Follow thou me. And he rose, and followed him.
10 And it was done, while he sat at the meat in the house, lo! many publicans and sinful men came, and sat at the meat with Jesus and his disciples. [And it was done, him sitting at the meat in the house, lo! many publicans and sinful men coming sat at the meat with Jesus and his disciples.]
11 And the Pharisees saw, and said to his disciples, Why eateth your master with publicans and sinful men?
12 And Jesus heard, and said, A physician is not needful to men that fare well, but to men that be evil-at-ease. [And Jesus hearing said, A leech is not needful to men that fare well, but to men having evil.]
13 But go ye, and learn what it is, I will mercy, and not sacrifice; for I came, not to call rightful men [forsooth I came, not to call rightwise men], but sinful men to penance.
14 Then the disciples of John came to him, and said [Then the disciples of John came nigh to him, saying], Why we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
15 And Jesus said to them, Whether the sons of the spouse be able to mourn [Whether the sons of the spouse, or husband, may wail, or mourn], as long as the spouse is with them? But days shall come, when the spouse shall be taken away from them, and then they shall fast.
16 And no man putteth a patch of rough cloth [of rude, or new, cloth] into an old clothing [into an old cloth]; for it doeth away the fullness of the cloak [soothly it taketh away the plenty of it from the cloth], and a worse breaking is made.
17 Neither men put new wine into old bottles, else the bottles be broken, and destroyed, and the wine shed out. But men put new wine into new bottles, and both be kept.[a]
18 Whiles that Jesus spake these things to them, lo! a prince came, and worshipped him, and said [saying], Lord, my daughter is now dead; but come thou, and put thine hand on her, and she shall live [but come thou, and put thine hand upon her, and she shall live].
19 And Jesus rose, and his disciples, and followed him. [And Jesus rising followed him, and his disciples.]
20 And lo! a woman, that had a bloody flux twelve years, approached behind, and touched the hem of his cloak.[b]
21 For she said within herself, If I touch only the cloak of him[c], I shall be safe.
22 And Jesus turned, and saw her, and said, Daughter, have thou trust [Daughter, have trust]; thy faith hath made thee safe. And the woman was whole from that hour.
23 And when Jesus came into the house of the prince, and saw minstrels, and the people making noise,
24 he said, Go ye away [Go away], for the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they scorned him.
25 And when the folk was put out, he went in, and held her hand; and the damsel rose [up].
26 And this fame went out into all that land.
27 And when Jesus passed from thence, two blind men crying followed him, and said, Thou son of David, have mercy on us. [And Jesus passing thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou son of David, have mercy on us.]
28 And when he came into the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them [Soothly when he had come into the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus saith to them], What will ye, that I do to you? And they said, Lord, that our eyes be opened. And Jesus said, Believe ye, that I may do this thing to you [And Jesus said, Believe ye, that I may do this thing]? They said to him, Yea, Lord.
29 Then he touched their eyes, and said [saying], After your faith be it done to you.
30 And the eyes of them were opened. And Jesus threatened them, and said [saying], See ye, that no man know.
31 But they went out, and famed him through all that land.
32 And when they were gone out, lo! they brought to him a dumb man, having a devil.
33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb man spake. And the people wondered, and said, It hath not been seen thus in Israel [And the companies wondered, saying, It appeared never so in Israel].
34 But the Pharisees said, In the prince of devils he casteth out devils.
35 And Jesus went about all the cities and castles, teaching in the synagogues of them, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every languor and every sickness [and healing all languishing, or ache, and all sickness].
36 And he saw the people, and had ruth on them [Forsooth Jesus, seeing companies, had ruth on them]; for they were travailed, and lying as sheep not having a shepherd.
37 Then he said to his disciples, Soothly there is much ripe corn, but few workmen.
38 Therefore pray ye the Lord of the ripe corn, that he send workmen into his ripe corn.
