Jesus Before Pilate

15 (A)And early in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes and the whole (B)Sanhedrin, immediately held council; and binding Jesus, led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate. 2 (C)And Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And He answered him and *said, “You yourself say it.” 3 And the chief priests began to accuse Him of many things. 4 Then Pilate was questioning Him again, saying, “You answer nothing? See how many accusations they bring against You!” 5 But Jesus (D)made no further answer; so Pilate marveled.

6 (E)Now at the feast he used to release for them any one prisoner whom they requested. 7 And the man named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the insurrection. 8 And the crowd went up and began asking him to do as he had been accustomed to do for them. 9 And Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” 10 For he was aware that the chief priests had delivered Him over because of envy. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd (F)to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead. 12 And answering again, Pilate was saying to them, “Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?” 13 And they shouted again, “Crucify Him!” 14 But Pilate was saying to them, “Why? What evil did He do?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify Him!” 15 And wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus (G)scourged, he delivered Him over to be crucified.

Jesus Is Mocked

16 (H)So the soldiers took Him away into (I)the [a]palace (that is, the [b]Praetorium), and they *called together the whole Roman [c](J)cohort. 17 And they *dressed Him up in purple, and after twisting a crown of thorns, they *put it on Him; 18 and they began to greet Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19 And they kept beating His head with a [d]reed, and spitting on Him; and kneeling, they were bowing down before Him. 20 And after they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they *led Him out to crucify Him.

21 (K)And they *pressed into service a passer-by coming from the countryside, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and (L)Rufus), to [e]carry His cross.

The Crucifixion

22 (M)Then they *brought Him to the place (N)Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull. 23 And they tried to give Him (O)wine mixed with myrrh; but He did not take it. 24 And they *crucified Him, and *(P)divided up His garments among themselves, casting [f]lots for them to decide who should take what. 25 Now it was the [g](Q)third hour, and they crucified Him. 26 And the inscription of the charge against Him [h]read, “(R)THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

27 And they *crucified two robbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left. 28 [i][And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with transgressors.”] 29 And those passing by were blaspheming Him, (S)shaking their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who are going to (T)destroy the [j]sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, 30 save Yourself by coming down from the cross!” 31 In the same way, mocking Him to one another, the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were saying, “(U)He saved others; [k]He cannot save Himself. 32 Let this [l]Christ, (V)the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” (W)Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.

33 (X)And when the [m](Y)sixth hour came, darkness [n]fell over the whole land until the [o](Z)ninth hour. 34 And at the (AA)ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “(AB)Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 35 And when some of the bystanders heard it, they began saying, “Look, He is calling for Elijah.” 36 And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, “[p]Let us see whether Elijah will come to take Him down.” 37 (AC)And Jesus, uttering a loud cry, breathed His last. 38 (AD)And the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 (AE)And when the centurion, who was standing [q]right in front of Him, saw [r]the way He breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!”

40 (AF)And there were also some women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James (AG)the [s]Less and Joses, and (AH)Salome, 41 who, when He was in Galilee, were following Him and [t](AI)serving Him; and there were many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

Jesus Is Buried

42 (AJ)And when evening had already come, because it was [u](AK)Preparation day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea came, a (AL)prominent [v]Council member, who himself was (AM)waiting for the kingdom of God; and he (AN)gathered up courage and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 And Pilate wondered if He had died by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He already died. 45 And ascertaining this from (AO)the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 And when Joseph had bought a linen cloth and took Him down, he wrapped Him in the linen cloth and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out in the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 (AP)And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were looking on to see where He had been laid.

Jesus Before Pilate(A)

15 Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law(B) and the whole Sanhedrin,(C) made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.(D)

2 “Are you the king of the Jews?”(E) asked Pilate.

“You have said so,” Jesus replied.

3 The chief priests accused him of many things. 4 So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.”

5 But Jesus still made no reply,(F) and Pilate was amazed.

6 Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested. 7 A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising. 8 The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.

9 “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?”(G) asked Pilate, 10 knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas(H) instead.

12 “What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them.

13 “Crucify him!” they shouted.

14 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.

But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”

15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged,(I) and handed him over to be crucified.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus(J)

16 The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace(K) (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. 17 They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. 18 And they began to call out to him, “Hail, king of the Jews!”(L) 19 Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out(M) to crucify him.

The Crucifixion of Jesus(N)

21 A certain man from Cyrene,(O) Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus,(P) was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.(Q) 22 They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). 23 Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh,(R) but he did not take it. 24 And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots(S) to see what each would get.

25 It was nine in the morning when they crucified him. 26 The written notice of the charge against him read: the king of the jews.(T)

27 They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left. [28] [a] 29 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads(U) and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,(V) 30 come down from the cross and save yourself!” 31 In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him(W) among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! 32 Let this Messiah,(X) this king of Israel,(Y) come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

The Death of Jesus(Z)

33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.(AA) 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[b](AB)

35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”

36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar,(AC) put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.

37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.(AD)

38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.(AE) 39 And when the centurion,(AF) who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[c] he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”(AG)

40 Some women were watching from a distance.(AH) Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph,[d] and Salome.(AI) 41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.(AJ)

The Burial of Jesus(AK)

42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath).(AL) So as evening approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council,(AM) who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God,(AN) went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. 45 When he learned from the centurion(AO) that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.(AP) 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph(AQ) saw where he was laid.

Gibugalbugalan sa mga Sundalo si Jesus

16 Gidala sa mga sundalo si Jesus sa sulod sa palasyo sa gobernador ug gitawag nila ang tibuok batalyon sa mga sundalo nga magtigom didto. 17 Dayon gisul-oban nila siya ug kapa nga pulahon ug nagbuhat silag korona nga tunokon ug gibutang nila kini sa ulo ni Jesus. 18 Ug miyukbo kunohay sila kaniya nga naga-ingon, “Malungtarong kinabuhi alang sa Mahal nga Hari sa mga Judio!” 19 Ug gisigihan nilag bunal ug kahoy ang iyang ulo ug giluwaan pa nila siya. Gilansang si Jesus sa Krus

(Mat. 27:32-44; Luc. 23:26-43; Juan 19:17-27)

21 Sa dihang pagawas pa lang sila sa siyudad, natagboan nila ang usa ka tawo nga gikan sa uma. (Ang iyang ngalan mao si Simon nga taga-Cyrene, nga amahan ni Alexander ug ni Rufo). Gipugos nila siya sa pagpas-an sa krus ni Jesus. 22 Ug gidala nila si Jesus sa lugar nga gitawag ug Golgota (nga ang kahulogan, lugar sa bagol-bagol.)[a] 23 Pag-abot nila didto gihatagan nila si Jesus ug bino nga may gisagol nga mira, apan wala moinom si Jesus. 24 Unya gilansang nila siya sa krus, ug gibahin-bahin nila ang iyang mga bisti pinaagi sa pagripa, aron masayran nila kon unsa nga bahin ang makuha sa matag usa. 25 Mga alas nuwebe kadto sa buntag dihang gilansang nila si Jesus sa krus. 26 Ang nahisulat sa karatula sa krus nga sumbong batok kaniya naga-ingon, “Ang hari sa mga Judio.” 27 May duha usab ka tulisan nga ilang gilansang uban kang Jesus. 29 Ang mga tawo nga nangagi didto nagpanglingo nga nanginsulto ug nagbugalbugal kang Jesus. Miingon sila, “Mao diay ha! Ikaw nga naga-ingon nga gub-on mo ang templo ug sulod sa tulo ka adlaw patindogon mo pag-usab, 30 kanaog diha sa krus ug luwasa ang imong kaugalingon!” 31 Sa samang pamaagi nagbugalbugal usab ang kadagkoan sa mga pari ug ang mga magtutudlo sa Kasugoan. Miingon sila sa usag usa, “Giluwas niya ang uban, apan dili siya makaluwas sa iyang kaugalingon! 32 Tan-awon ta karon kon makakanaog ba sa krus ang Cristo nga hari sa Israel, ug kon makakanaog siya motuo kita kaniya.” Bisan ang mga kauban niya nga gilansang mibugalbugal usab kaniya.

Ang Pagkamatay ni Jesus

(Mat. 27:45-56; Luc. 23:44-49; Juan 19:28-30)

33 Sa dihang miabot ang alas 12 sa udto, mingitngit ang kalibotan hangtod alas tres. 34 Ug sa pagka-alas tres sa hapon misinggit si Jesus sa makusog, “Eloi, Eloi lema sabactani?”—nga ang buot ipasabot, “Dios ko, Dios ko, nganong gipasagdan mo ako?”[b] 35 Sa pagkadungog sa ubang nanindog didto miingon sila, “Gitawag niya si Elias.” 36 Diha-diha midagan ang usa ka tawo ug mikuha ug espongha ug gituslob niya sa aslom nga bino. 38 Sa mao usab nga oras, napikas ang tabil sulod sa templo sa Jerusalem gikan sa ibabaw paubos. 39 Ang kapitan sa mga sundalo nga nagtindog sa atubangan sa krus nakakita sa pagkabugto sa gininhawa ni Jesus. Miingon siya, “Tinuod gayod nga kining tawhana mao ang Anak sa Dios!” 40 Didto sa layo may mga babaye nga nanglantaw sa nahitabo. Kauban nila si Salome, si Maria nga taga-Magdala, ug si Maria (nga inahan ni Jose ug ni Santiago nga iyang manghod). 41 Kini sila miuban ug mitabang kang Jesus sa didto pa siya sa Galilea. Ang Paglubong kang Jesus

42-43 Namatay si Jesus sa adlaw sa pagpangandam alang sa pista. Ug tungod kay hapon na ug ang sunod nga adlaw mao ang Adlaw nga Igpapahulay, nangahas si Jose nga taga-Arimatea nga moadto kang Pilato aron pangayoon ang patayng lawas ni Jesus.
