36 В четвъртата година на иудейския цар Иоакима, Иосиев син, биде това слово към Иеремия от Господа:
2 (A)вземи си свитък книга и напиши в него всички думи, които Аз ти говорих за Израиля, за Иуда и за всички народи от тоя ден, откато почнах да ти говоря, от дните на Иосия – до днес;
3 (B)може би, домът Иудин ще чуе за всички бедствия, които мисля да им сторя, та те да се обърнат всеки от злия си път, и Аз да простя неправдата им и греха им.
4 (C)И Иеремия повика Нириевия син Варуха, и написа Варух в свитъка книга от устата на Иеремия всички думи на Господа, които Той му бе говорил.
5 Тогава Иеремия заповяда на Варуха и рече: „аз съм затворен и не мога да отида в дома Господен;
6 затова иди и прочети записаните от тебе в свитъка от устата ми думи Господни гласно пред народа в дома Господен в деня на поста; също прочети ги гласно и пред всички иудеи, дошли от градовете си;
7 (D)може би, те ще възнесат смирена молба пред лицето Господне и ще се обърнат всеки от злия си път; защото голям е гневът и негодуването, което Господ изрече против тоя народ“.
8 Варух, Нириев син, направи всичко, що му заповяда пророк Иеремия, да прочете в дома Господен записаните в свитъка думи Господни.
9 В петата година на иудейския цар Иоакима, Иосиев син, в деветия месец, обявиха пред лицето Господне пост за целия народ иерусалимски и за целия народ, дошъл от иудейските градове в Иерусалим.
10 (E)И Варух прочете гласно пред целия народ записаните в свитъка Иеремиеви думи в дома Господен, в стаята на писаря Гемария, Сафанов син, в горния двор при входа към новите порти на дома Господен.
11 Михей, син на Гемария, Сафанов син, чу всички Господни думи, записани в свитъка,
12 и слезе в дома на царя, в стаята на царевия писар, и ето, там седяха всички князе: Елисам, царев писар, Делаия, Семаев син, Елнатан, Ахборов син, Гемария, Сафанов син, Седекия, Ананиев син, и всички князе;
13 и разказа им Михей всички думи, които чу, когато Варух чете свитъка гласно пред народа.
14 Тогава всички князе пратиха при Варуха Иехудия, син на Натания, син на Селемия, Хусиев син, да му каже: „вземи в ръка свитъка, който чете гласно пред народа, и дойди“. И взе Варух, Нириев син, свитъка в ръка и отиде при тях.
15 Те му казаха: „седни и прочети ни гласно“. И Варух им прочете гласно.
16 Когато изслушаха всички думи, с ужас се спогледаха помежду си и рекоха на Варуха: „ние бездруго ще разкажем на царя всички тия думи“.
17 И попитаха Варуха: „а кажи ни, как написа всички тия думи от устата му?“
18 И отговори им Варух: „той ми изговаряше с уста всички тия думи, пък аз ги записвах с мастило в тоя свитък“.
19 Тогава князете рекоха на Варуха: „иди и се скрий, ти и Иеремия, та никой да не знае, де сте“.
20 И отидоха при царя в двореца, а свитъка оставиха в стаята на Елисама, царев писар; и разказаха гласно пред царя всички тия думи.
21 Царят изпрати Иехудия да донесе свитъка, и тоя го взе от стаята на Елисама, царев писар; и чете го Иехудий гласно пред царя и гласно пред всички князе, които стояха около царя.
22 Царят в онова време, в деветия месец, стоеше в зимния дом и пред него – мангал с огън.
23 (F)Когато Иехудий прочиташе три или четири стълбца, царят ги отрязваше с писарското ножче и хвърляше в огъня на мангала, докле биде унищожен целият свитък в огъня, който беше в мангала.
24 И не се уплашиха и не раздраха дрехите си нито царят, нито слугите му, които чуха всички тия думи.
25 Макар Елнатан, Делаия и Гемария да молиха царя да не изгаря свитъка, но той ги не послуша.
26 И царят заповяда на царевия син Иерамеила, на Сераия, Азриилов син, и на Селемия, Авдиилов син, да хванат писаря Варуха и пророка Иеремия. Но Господ ги скри.
27 И биде слово Господне към Иеремия, след като царят изгори свитъка и думите, които Варух бе написал от устата на Иеремия, и му бе казано:
28 „вземи си пак друг свитък и напиши в него всички предишни думи, що бяха в първия свитък, който иудейският цар Иоаким изгори;
29 (G)а на иудейския цар Иоакима кажи: тъй казва Господ: ти изгори тоя свитък, като каза: защо написа в него: „бездруго ще дойде вавилонският цар и ще разори тая земя и ще изтреби по нея люде и добитък“, –
30 (H)затова тъй казва Господ за иудейския цар Иоакима: не ще има от него, кой да седи на Давидовия престол, и трупът му ще бъде хвърлен на дневния пек и на нощния студ;
31 и ще посетя него и племето му и слугите му за неправдите им, и ще напратя върху тях и върху иерусалимските жители и върху Иудините мъже всичкото зло, що изрекох върху тях, а те не послушаха“.
32 И взе Иеремия друг свитък и даде го на писаря Варуха, Нириев син, и той написа в него от Иеремиевите уста всички думи на оня свитък, що изгори в огъня иудейският цар Иоаким; и прибави към тях още много подобни тям думи.

Съставяне и четене на свитъка на пророка
36 (A)И случи се в четвъртата година на юдейския цар Йоаким, син на Йосия, че беше отправено от Господ това слово към Йеремия: 2 „Вземи си свитък за писане и напиши на него всичките думи, които ти говорих срещу Израил и срещу Юдея, и срещу всичките народи – от времето, когато започнах да ти говоря, от дните на Йосия до ден днешен! 3 Може би юдейският народ, като чуе за цялото бедствие, което възнамерявам да му причиня, ще се обърне всеки от пагубния си път, а Аз ще простя вината и греха им.“
4 Тогава Йеремия повика Варух, син на Нерия, и Варух записа в свитъка от устата на Йеремия всички думи на Господ, които Той му е говорил. 5 И Йеремия заповяда на Варух и каза: „Аз съм затворен и не мога да вляза в Господния дом, 6 но ти иди и от свитъка, който записа от устата ми, прочети гласно пред народа в Господния дом в деня на поста, прочети ги гласно също и пред всички юдеи, дошли от градовете си. 7 Може би те ще принесат молитвата си пред лицето на Господ и ще се обърнат всеки от злия си път, защото големи са гневът и негодуванието, с които Господ заплаши този народ.“ 8 А Варух, син на Нерия, направи всичко, което му заповяда пророк Йеремия – да прочете от книгата думите на Господ в дома Господен.
9 В петата година на юдейския цар Йоаким, син на Йосия, в деветия месец обявиха пост за целия йерусалимски народ и за целия народ, дошъл от юдейските градове в Йерусалим. 10 Тогава в Господния дом Варух прочете от свитъка думите на Йеремия в стаята на Гемария, син на писаря Шафан, в горния двор при входа на Новата порта на дома Господен.

20 А те отидоха в двора при царя, но свитъка оставиха в стаята на писаря Елишама. И съобщиха на самия цар всички тези думи. 21 Тогава царят изпрати Йехудий да вземе свитъка и той го взе от стаята на писаря Елишама. И Йехудий го прочете гласно пред царя и пред всичките първенци, които стояха около царя. 22 А царят седеше в зимния дом. Беше деветият месец и пред него гореше огън в мангала. 23 И стана така, че след като Йехудий прочиташе три-четири колонки, царят ги отрязваше с писарското ножче и ги хвърляше в огъня на мангала, докато целият свитък изгоря в огъня на мангала. 24 Но не се уплашиха и не раздраха връхните си дрехи – нито царят, нито някой от служителите му, когато слушаха всички тези думи. 25 А когато Елнатан, Делаия и Гемария помолиха царя да не изгаря свитъка, той не ги послуша. 26 Тогава царят заповяда на царския син Йерахмел и на Сераия, син на Азриел, и на Шелемия, син на Авдеел, да хванат писаря Варух и пророк Йеремия. Но Господ им попречи.

27 И след като царят изгори свитъка с думите, които Варух записа от устата на Йеремия, Господ отправи към Йеремия това слово: 28 „Вземи си друг свитък и запиши в него всичките предишни думи, които бяха в първия свитък, който юдейският цар Йоаким изгори, 29 а на юдейския цар Йоаким кажи: ‘Така казва Господ: «Ти изгори този свитък, като каза: Защо ти си написал в него, че вавилонският цар непременно ще дойде и ще разори тази страна, и ще унищожи в нея всеки човек и добитък»’? 30 Затова така казва Господ за юдейския цар Йоаким: ‘Няма да има потомък от него, който да седи на Давидовия престол. И трупът му ще бъде захвърлен на дневния пек и на нощния мраз. 31 И Аз ще накажа него, потомството му и служителите му за тяхното беззаконие. И ще докарам върху тях, върху йерусалимските жители и юдейските мъже цялото бедствие, което обявих против тях, а те не Ме послушаха’.“
32 Тогава Йеремия взе друг свитък и го даде на писаря Варух, син на Нерия, който записа на него от устата на Йеремия всичките думи на свитъка, който юдейският цар Йоаким изгори в огън, и още много думи като тези.

Jehoiakim Burns Jeremiah’s Scroll
36 In the fourth year of Jehoiakim(A) son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2 “Take a scroll(B) and write on it all the words(C) I have spoken to you concerning Israel, Judah and all the other nations from the time I began speaking to you in the reign of Josiah(D) till now. 3 Perhaps(E) when the people of Judah hear(F) about every disaster I plan to inflict on them, they will each turn(G) from their wicked ways; then I will forgive(H) their wickedness and their sin.”
4 So Jeremiah called Baruch(I) son of Neriah,(J) and while Jeremiah dictated(K) all the words the Lord had spoken to him, Baruch wrote them on the scroll.(L) 5 Then Jeremiah told Baruch, “I am restricted; I am not allowed to go to the Lord’s temple. 6 So you go to the house of the Lord on a day of fasting(M) and read to the people from the scroll the words of the Lord that you wrote as I dictated.(N) Read them to all the people of Judah(O) who come in from their towns. 7 Perhaps they will bring their petition(P) before the Lord and will each turn(Q) from their wicked ways, for the anger(R) and wrath pronounced against this people by the Lord are great.”
8 Baruch son of Neriah did everything Jeremiah the prophet told him to do; at the Lord’s temple he read the words of the Lord from the scroll. 9 In the ninth month(S) of the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, a time of fasting(T) before the Lord was proclaimed for all the people in Jerusalem and those who had come from the towns of Judah. 10 From the room of Gemariah(U) son of Shaphan(V) the secretary,(W) which was in the upper courtyard at the entrance of the New Gate(X) of the temple, Baruch read to all the people at the Lord’s temple the words of Jeremiah from the scroll.
11 When Micaiah son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, heard all the words of the Lord from the scroll, 12 he went down to the secretary’s(Y) room in the royal palace, where all the officials were sitting: Elishama the secretary, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan(Z) son of Akbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan, Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the other officials.(AA) 13 After Micaiah told them everything he had heard Baruch read to the people from the scroll, 14 all the officials sent Jehudi(AB) son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to say to Baruch, “Bring the scroll(AC) from which you have read to the people and come.” So Baruch son of Neriah went to them with the scroll in his hand. 15 They said to him, “Sit down, please, and read it to us.”
So Baruch read it to them. 16 When they heard all these words, they looked at each other in fear(AD) and said to Baruch, “We must report all these words to the king.” 17 Then they asked Baruch, “Tell us, how did you come to write(AE) all this? Did Jeremiah dictate it?”
18 “Yes,” Baruch replied, “he dictated(AF) all these words to me, and I wrote them in ink on the scroll.”
19 Then the officials(AG) said to Baruch, “You and Jeremiah, go and hide.(AH) Don’t let anyone know where you are.”
20 After they put the scroll in the room of Elishama the secretary, they went to the king in the courtyard and reported everything to him. 21 The king sent Jehudi(AI) to get the scroll, and Jehudi brought it from the room of Elishama the secretary and read it to the king(AJ) and all the officials standing beside him. 22 It was the ninth month and the king was sitting in the winter apartment,(AK) with a fire burning in the firepot in front of him. 23 Whenever Jehudi had read three or four columns of the scroll,(AL) the king cut them off with a scribe’s knife and threw them into the firepot, until the entire scroll was burned in the fire.(AM) 24 The king and all his attendants who heard all these words showed no fear,(AN) nor did they tear their clothes.(AO) 25 Even though Elnathan, Delaiah(AP) and Gemariah(AQ) urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them. 26 Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a son of the king, Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest(AR) Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the Lord had hidden(AS) them.
27 After the king burned the scroll containing the words that Baruch had written at Jeremiah’s dictation,(AT) the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 28 “Take another scroll(AU) and write on it all the words that were on the first scroll, which Jehoiakim king of Judah burned up. 29 Also tell Jehoiakim king of Judah, ‘This is what the Lord says: You burned that scroll and said, “Why did you write on it that the king of Babylon would certainly come and destroy this land and wipe from it(AV) both man and beast?”(AW) 30 Therefore this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim(AX) king of Judah: He will have no one to sit on the throne of David; his body will be thrown out(AY) and exposed(AZ) to the heat by day and the frost by night.(BA) 31 I will punish him and his children(BB) and his attendants for their wickedness; I will bring on them and those living in Jerusalem and the people of Judah every disaster(BC) I pronounced against them, because they have not listened.(BD)’”
32 So Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to the scribe Baruch son of Neriah, and as Jeremiah dictated,(BE) Baruch wrote(BF) on it all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned(BG) in the fire. And many similar words were added to them.

2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.
5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the Lord:
6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord in the ears of the people in the Lord's house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
7 It may be they will present their supplication before the Lord, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the Lord hath pronounced against this people.
8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the Lord in the Lord's house.
9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.
10 Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the Lord, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the Lord's house, in the ears of all the people.
11 When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the Lord,
12 Then he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
13 Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
14 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
15 And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.
16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?
18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.
19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.
20 And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.
21 So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.
23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
24 Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.
26 But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the Lord hid them.
27 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.
29 And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the Lord; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
30 Therefore thus saith the Lord of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
31 And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.
32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.
