Psalm 39

To the Overcomer, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.

¶ I said, I will take heed to my ways that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bit while the wicked is against me.

I was dumb with silence; I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue,

LORD, make me to know my end and the measure of my days, what it is that I may know how long I am to be of this world.

Behold, thou hast made my days as a handbreadth, and my age is as nothing before thee; verily every man that lives is altogether vanity. Selah.

Surely man walks in darkness; surely they are disquieted in vain; they heap up riches not knowing who shall gather them.

¶ And now, Lord, what shall I wait for? My hope is in thee.

Deliver me from all my rebellions; do not make me the reproach of the foolish.

I was dumb, I opened not my mouth because thou didst it.

10 Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.

11 When thou with chastening dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his greatness to consume away like a moth; surely every man is vanity. Selah.

12 Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

13 O spare me, that I may recover strength before I go from here and be no more.

Jeremiah 11:1-17

11 ¶ The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto every man of Judah and to every inhabitant of Jerusalem;

and thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the LORD God of Israel said: Cursed be the man that does not hear the words of this covenant,

which I commanded your fathers the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying unto them, hear my voice and comply with my words according to all which I command you; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God

that I may confirm the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, that I would give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then I answered, and said, Amen, O LORD.

And the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant and do them.

For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Hear my voice.

Yet they did not hear, nor did they incline their ear, but walked each one in the imagination of their evil heart; therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.

And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

10 They have returned to the iniquities of their first fathers, who refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

11 ¶ Therefore thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.

12 Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense, who shall not be able to save them in the time of their trouble.

13 For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of thy streets, O Jerusalem, have ye set up altars of confusion, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.

14 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me in their trouble.

15 What part has my beloved in my house, seeing she has wrought lewdness with many? The holy flesh shall pass from upon thee, for in thy evil thou didst glory.

16 The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, beautiful in fruit and in appearance. At the voice of a great word he caused fire to be kindled upon it, and they broke her branches.

17 For the LORD of the hosts, that planted thee, has pronounced evil against thee for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.

Romans 2:1-11

¶ Therefore, thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest; for in that which thou dost judge another, thou dost condemn thyself; for thou that judgest others doest the same things.

For we are sure that the judgment of God is according to the truth against those who do such things.

And dost thou think this, O man, that judgest those who do such things and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Or dost thou despise the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, ignoring that the goodness of God leads thee to repentance?

But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasures up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

who will render to everyone according to his deeds:

to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life;

but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath.

Tribulation and anguish shall be upon every human soul that does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek;

10 but glory, honour, and peace to everyone that works good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
