Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The Eternal Faithfulness of the Lord(A)
105 Oh, (B)give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
(C)Make known His deeds among the peoples!
2 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
(D)Talk of all His wondrous works!
3 Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
4 Seek the Lord and His strength;
(E)Seek His face evermore!
5 (F)Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
6 O seed of Abraham His servant,
You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!
7 He is the Lord our God;
(G)His judgments are in all the earth.
8 He (H)remembers His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,
9 (I)The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac,
10 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, (J)“To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the allotment of your inheritance,”
12 (K)When they were few in number,
Indeed very few, (L)and strangers in it.
16 Moreover (A)He called for a famine in the land;
He destroyed all the (B)provision of bread.
17 (C)He sent a man before them—
Joseph—who (D)was sold as a slave.
18 (E)They hurt his feet with fetters,
[a]He was laid in irons.
19 Until the time that his word came to pass,
(F)The word of the Lord tested him.
20 (G)The king sent and released him,
The ruler of the people let him go free.
21 (H)He made him lord of his house,
And ruler of all his possessions,
22 To [b]bind his princes at his pleasure,
And teach his elders wisdom.
23 (I)Israel also came into Egypt,
And Jacob dwelt (J)in the land of Ham.
24 (K)He increased His people greatly,
And made them stronger than their enemies.
25 (L)He turned their heart to hate His people,
To deal craftily with His servants.
26 (M)He sent Moses His servant,
And Aaron whom He had chosen.
27 They (N)performed His signs among them,
And wonders in the land of Ham.
28 He sent darkness, and made it dark;
And they did not rebel against His word.
29 (O)He turned their waters into blood,
And killed their fish.
30 (P)Their land abounded with frogs,
Even in the chambers of their kings.
31 (Q)He spoke, and there came swarms of flies,
And lice in all their territory.
32 (R)He gave them hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
33 (S)He struck their vines also, and their fig trees,
And splintered the trees of their territory.
34 (T)He spoke, and locusts came,
Young locusts without number,
35 And ate up all the vegetation in their land,
And devoured the fruit of their ground.
36 (U)He also [c]destroyed all the firstborn in their land,
(V)The first of all their strength.
37 (W)He also brought them out with silver and gold,
And there was none feeble among His tribes.
38 (X)Egypt was glad when they departed,
For the fear of them had fallen upon them.
39 (Y)He spread a cloud for a covering,
And fire to give light in the night.
40 (Z)The people asked, and He brought quail,
And (AA)satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
41 (AB)He opened the rock, and water gushed out;
It ran in the dry places like a river.
42 For He remembered (A)His holy promise,
And Abraham His servant.
10 (A)And all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Now (B)the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of meeting before all the children of Israel.
Moses Intercedes for the People
11 Then the Lord said to Moses: “How long will these people (C)reject[a] Me? And how long will they not (D)believe Me, with all the [b]signs which I have performed among them? 12 I will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them, and I will (E)make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.”
13 And (F)Moses said to the Lord: (G)“Then the Egyptians will hear it, for by Your might You brought these people up from among them, 14 and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have (H)heard that You, Lord, are among these people; that You, Lord, are seen face to face and Your cloud stands above them, and You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night. 15 Now if You kill these people as one man, then the nations which have heard of Your fame will speak, saying, 16 ‘Because the Lord was not (I)able to bring this people to the land which He swore to give them, therefore He killed them in the wilderness.’ 17 And now, I pray, let the power of my Lord be great, just as You have spoken, saying, 18 (J)‘The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, (K)visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.’ 19 (L)Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray, (M)according to the greatness of Your mercy, just (N)as You have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”
20 Then the Lord said: “I have pardoned, (O)according to your word; 21 but truly, as I live, (P)all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord— 22 (Q)because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now (R)these ten times, and have not heeded My voice, 23 they certainly shall not (S)see the land of which I [c]swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it. 24 But My servant (T)Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and (U)has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.
Old Testament Examples
10 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under (A)the cloud, all passed through (B)the sea, 2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 all ate the same (C)spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same (D)spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies (E)were scattered in the wilderness.
6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as (F)they also lusted. 7 (G)And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, (H)“The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” 8 (I)Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as (J)some of them did, and (K)in one day twenty-three thousand fell; 9 nor let us [a]tempt Christ, as (L)some of them also tempted, and (M)were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as (N)some of them also complained, and (O)were destroyed by (P)the destroyer. 11 Now [b]all these things happened to them as examples, and (Q)they were written for our [c]admonition, (R)upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
12 Therefore (S)let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but (T)God is faithful, (U)who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to [d]bear it.
