Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
89 ·Lord, your word is everlasting [or The Lord is everlasting];
·it [L your word] ·continues forever [L is firm] in heaven.
90 Your ·loyalty [faithfulness; truth] will go on and on;
you ·made [established] the earth, and it ·still stands [endures].
91 All things ·continue [endure] to this day because of your ·laws [judgments],
because all things ·serve you [L are your servants].
92 If I had not ·loved [delighted in] your ·teachings [instructions; laws],
I would have ·died [perished] ·from my sufferings [in my afflictions].
93 I will never forget your ·orders [precepts],
because you have given me life by them.
94 I am yours. ·Save me [Give me victory].
I ·want to obey [seek] your ·orders [precepts].
95 Wicked people ·are waiting [hope] to ·destroy me [make me perish],
but I will ·think about [consider] your ·rules [decrees; testimonies].
96 Everything I see has its limits,
but your commands ·have none [L are very broad].
27 So King Jehoiakim burned the scroll where Baruch had written ·all the words Jeremiah had spoken to him [L from the mouth of Jeremiah]. Then the Lord spoke his word to Jeremiah: 28 “Get another scroll. Write all the words on it that were on the first scroll that Jehoiakim king of Judah burned up. 29 Also say this to Jehoiakim king of Judah: ‘This is what the Lord says: You burned up that scroll and said, “Why, Jeremiah, did you write on it ‘the king of Babylon will surely come and destroy this land and the people and animals in it’?” 30 So this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim king of Judah: Jehoiakim’s descendants will not sit on David’s throne. When Jehoiakim dies, his body will be thrown out on the ground. It will be left out in the heat of the day and in the frost of the night. 31 I will punish Jehoiakim and his ·children [L seed] and his servants, because ·they have done evil things [of their guilt/iniquity]. I will bring ·disasters [evil; trouble] upon them and upon all the people in Jerusalem and Judah—everything I promised but which they refused to hear.’”
32 So Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch son of Neriah, his ·secretary [scribe]. ·As Jeremiah spoke [L From the mouth of Jeremiah], Baruch wrote on the scroll the same words that were on the scroll Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And many similar words were added to the second scroll.
Jesus Heals Many People(A)
38 Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon [C Peter]. Simon’s mother-in-law was sick with a high fever, and they asked Jesus ·to help her [L concerning her]. 39 He ·came to her side [or stood over her] and ·commanded the fever to leave [L rebuked the fever]. It left her, and immediately she got up and ·began serving them [or waiting on them; C presumably meal preparation].
40 ·When [or As] the sun went down, the people brought those who were sick to Jesus. ·Putting [Laying] his hands on each sick person, he healed every one of them. 41 Demons [L also] came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God.” But Jesus ·commanded [reprimanded; rebuked] the demons and would not allow them to speak, because they knew Jesus was the ·Christ [Messiah].
42 At daybreak, Jesus went to a ·lonely [isolated; deserted] place, but the ·people [crowds] ·looked [were looking] for him. When they ·found [came to] him, they tried to keep him from leaving. 43 But Jesus said to them, “I must preach [L the good news] about God’s kingdom to other towns, too. [L …because] This is why I was sent.”
44 Then he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.[a]
