Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Psalm 126
Zion’s Restoration
A song of ascents.
1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,[a]
we were like those who dream.(A)
2 Our mouths were filled with laughter then,(B)
and our tongues with shouts of joy.(C)
Then they said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”(D)
3 The Lord had done great things for us;
we were joyful.(E)
2 Lord, I have heard the report about you;
Lord, I stand in awe of your deeds.(A)
Revive your work in these years;
make it known in these years.
In your wrath remember mercy!(B)
3 God comes from Teman,
the Holy One from Mount Paran.(C)Selah
His splendor covers the heavens,
and the earth is full of his praise.(D)
4 His brilliance is like light;
rays are flashing from his hand.
This is where his power is hidden.
5 Plague goes before him,
and pestilence follows in his steps.
6 He stands and shakes[a] the earth;(E)
he looks and startles the nations.
The age-old mountains break apart;
the ancient hills sink down.(F)
His pathways are ancient.(G)
Reaching Forward to God’s Goal
12 Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold(A) of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not[a] consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind(B) and reaching forward to what is ahead, 14 I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly[b] call in Christ Jesus.(C) 15 Therefore, let all of us who are mature think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will reveal(D) this also to you. 16 In any case, we should live up to whatever truth we have attained.
