Isaiah 64:1-9

64 Oh, that You would rend the heavens and come down,
    that the mountains might shake at Your presence,
as when the melting fire burns,
    as the fire causes the waters to boil,
to make Your name known to Your adversaries,
    that the nations may tremble at Your presence!
When You did awesome things for which we did not look,
    You came down; the mountains quaked at Your presence.
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard,
    nor perceived by ear,
neither has the eye seen a God besides You,
    who acts for the one who waits for Him.
You meet him who rejoices in doing righteousness,
    those who remember You in Your ways.
Indeed, You were angry, for we had sinned;
    in our sins we remained a long time,
    and shall we be saved?
But we all are as an unclean thing,
    and all our righteousness is as filthy rags;
and we all fade as a leaf,
    and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
There is no one who calls on Your name,
    who stirs up himself to take hold of You;
for You have hidden Your face from us
    and have consumed us because of our iniquities.

But now, O Lord, You are our Father;
    we are the clay, and You are our potter;
    and we all are the work of Your hand.
Do not be wrathful beyond measure, O Lord,
    nor remember iniquity forever;
look upon us, we pray,
    we all are Your people.

Psalm 80:1-7

Psalm 80

For the Music Director. To the melody of “Lilies of the Testimony.” A Psalm of Asaph.

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
    You who lead Joseph like a flock;
You who are enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth.
    In the sight of Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
stir up Your strength,
    and come and rescue us.

Restore us again, O God,
    and cause Your face to shine,
    and we shall be delivered.

O Lord God of Hosts,
    how long will You be angry
    against the prayers of Your people?
You have fed them with the bread of tears
    and have given them tears to drink in great measure.
You make us contention for our neighbors,
    and our enemies laugh among themselves.

Restore us again, O God of Hosts,
    and cause Your face to shine,
    and we shall be delivered.

Psalm 80:17-19

17 Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand,
    the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.
18 So we will not turn back from You;
    give us life, and we will call upon Your name.

19 Restore us again, O Lord God of Hosts;
    cause Your face to shine,
    and we shall be delivered.

1 Corinthians 1:3-9

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I thank my God always on your behalf for the grace of God which has been given to you through Jesus Christ. By Him you are enriched in everything, in all speech and in all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so that you are not lacking in any gift while waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will strengthen you to the end, so that you may be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, and by Him you were called to the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Mark 13:24-37

The Coming of the Son of Man(A)

24 “But in those days, after that distress,

‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give her light;
25 the stars of heaven will fall,
    and the powers that are in heaven will be shaken.’[a]

26 “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 Then He will send His angels and gather His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of the earth to the farthest part of heaven.

The Lesson of the Fig Tree(B)

28 “Now learn a parable of the fig tree: When her branch is yet tender and puts outs leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things come to pass, know that it is near, even at the doors. 30 Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things happen. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

The Unknown Day and Hour(C)

32 “But concerning that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Take heed, watch and pray. For you do not know when the time will come. 34 For the Son of Man is like a man leaving on a far journey who left his house and gave authority to his servants and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

35 “Watch therefore—for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, in the evening, or at midnight, or at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you I say to all: Watch!”
