Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
123 A prayer of the faithful, which were afflicted either in Babylon or under Antiochus, by the wicked worldlings and contemners of God.
A song of degrees.
1 I lift up mine eyes to thee, that dwellest in the heavens.
2 Behold, as the eyes of [a]servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress: so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until he have mercy upon us.
3 Have mercy unto us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we have [b]suffered too much contempt.
4 Our soul is filled too full of the mocking of the wealthy, and of the despitefulness of the proud.
16 ¶ Notwithstanding, the Lord raised up [a]Judges, which [b]delivered them out of the hands of their oppressors.
17 But yet they would not obey their Judges for they went a whoring after other gods, and worshipped them, and turned quickly out of the [c]way, wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of the Lord: they did not so.
18 And when the Lord had raised them up Judges, the Lord was with the Judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the Judge (for the Lord [d]had compassion of their groanings, [e]because of them that oppressed them and tormented them.)
19 Yet (A)when the Judge was dead, they returned, and [f]did worse than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and worship them: they ceased not from their own inventions, nor from their rebellious way.
20 Wherefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he said, Because this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and hath not obeyed my voice,
21 Therefore will I no more cast out before them any of the [g]nations, which Joshua left when he died,
22 That through them I may [h]prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the Lord, to walk therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.
23 So the Lord left those nations, and drove them not out immediately, neither delivered them into the hand of Joshua.
8 [a]And the fourth Angel poured out his vial on the sun, and it was given to him to torment men with heat of fire,
9 And men boiled in great heat, and blasphemed the Name of God, which hath power over these plagues, and they repented not to give him glory.
10 [b]And the fifth Angel poured out his vial upon the throne of the beast, and the kingdom waxed dark, and they gnawed their tongues for sorrow.
11 And blasphemed the God of heaven for their pains, and for their sores, and repented not of their works.
12 [c]And the sixth Angel poured out his vial upon the great river [d]Euphrates, and the [e]water thereof dried up, [f]that the way of the Kings of the East should be prepared.
13 And I saw [g]three unclean spirits [h]like frogs come out of the mouth of that [i]dragon, and out of the mouth of that [j]beast, and out of the mouth of that [k]false prophet.
14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, to go unto the kings of the earth, and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
15 [l]((A)Behold I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and men see his filthiness.)
16 [m]And they gathered them together into a place called in Hebrew, [n]Armageddon.
17 [o]And the seventh Angel poured out his vial into the [p]air: and there came a loud voice out of the Temple of heaven from [q]the throne, saying, [r]It is done.
18 [s]And there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, even so mighty an earthquake.
19 [t]And the great city was divided into three parts: and the cities of the nations [u]fell: and that great [v]Babylon came in remembrance before God, (B)to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
20 And every isle fled away, and the mountains [w]were not [x]found.
21 [y]And there fell a great hail, like [z]talents out of heaven upon the men, and men blasphemed God, because of the plague of the hail: for the plague thereof was exceeding great.
