Psalm 128

Blessed Is Everyone Who Fears Yahweh

A Song of Ascents.

128 (A)How blessed is everyone who fears Yahweh,
Who (B)walks in His ways.
When you shall (C)eat of the [a](D)fruit of the labor of your hands,
How blessed will you be and (E)how well will it be for you.
Your wife shall be like a (F)fruitful vine
In the innermost parts of your house,
Your children like (G)olive plants
All around your table.
Behold, for thus shall the man be blessed
Who fears Yahweh.

(H)May Yahweh bless you (I)from Zion,
That you may see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.
Indeed, may you see your (J)children’s children.
(K)Peace be upon Israel!

Joshua 6:1-16

The Destruction of Jericho

Now Jericho was tightly shut because of the sons of Israel; no one went out, and no one came in. And Yahweh said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with (A)its king and the valiant warriors. And you shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do so for six days. Also seven priests shall carry seven (B)trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. And it will be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall down [a]beneath itself, and the people will go up every man [b]straight ahead.”

So Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Carry the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of Yahweh.” Then [c]he said to the people, “Go forward, and march around the city, and let the armed men go on before the ark of Yahweh.” And so it happened that, when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh passed on forward and blew the trumpets; and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh came after them. And the armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and (C)the rear guard came after the ark, while they continued to blow the trumpets. 10 But Joshua commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout nor let your voice be heard nor let a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you, ‘Shout!’ Then you shall shout!” 11 So he had the ark of Yahweh [d]taken around the city, circling it once; then they came into the camp and spent the night in the camp.

12 Then Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests carried the ark of Yahweh. 13 (D)And the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of Yahweh went on continually and blew the trumpets; and the armed men went before them, and (E)the rear guard came after the ark of Yahweh, and they continued to blow the trumpets. 14 Thus the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp; they did so for six days.

15 Then it happened that on the seventh day they rose early at the [e]breaking of dawn and marched around the city in the same manner seven times; only on that day they marched around the city seven times. 16 Now it happened that on the seventh time, the priests blew the trumpets, and Joshua said to the people, “(F)Shout! For Yahweh has given you the city.

Joshua 6:20

20 So the people shouted, and [a]the priests blew the trumpets; and when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout, and the (A)wall fell down [b]beneath itself, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight [c]ahead, and they took the city.

Acts 13:1-12

Barnabas and Saul Sent from Antioch by the Holy Spirit

13 Now there were at (A)Antioch, in the (B)church that was there, (C)prophets and (D)teachers: (E)Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of (F)Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with (G)Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. And while they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, (H)the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me (I)Barnabas and Saul for (J)the work to which I have called them.” Then, when they had fasted and (K)prayed and (L)laid their hands on them, (M)they sent them away.

On Cyprus

So, being (N)sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to (O)Cyprus. And when they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in (P)the synagogues of the Jews, and they also had (Q)John as their helper. And when they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a (R)magician, a Jewish (S)false prophet whose name was Bar-Jesus, who was with the (T)proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. But Elymas the (U)magician (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the (V)proconsul away from (W)the faith. But Saul, who was also known as Paul, [a](X)filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him, 10 and said, “You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you (Y)son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked (Z)the straight ways of the [b]Lord? 11 Now, behold, (AA)the hand of the [c]Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time.” And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand. 12 Then the (AB)proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being astonished at (AC)the teaching of the Lord.
