Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The Commandments of Yahweh
20 Then God spoke all these words, saying,
2 “(A)I am Yahweh your God, (B)who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of [a]slavery.
3 “(C)You shall have no other (D)gods [b]before Me.
4 “(E)You shall not make for yourself [c]an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
12 “(A)Honor your father and your mother, that your (B)days may be prolonged in the land which Yahweh your God gives you.
13 “(C)You shall not murder.
14 “(D)You shall not commit adultery.
15 “(E)You shall not steal.
16 “(F)You shall not bear false witness against your (G)neighbor.
17 “(H)You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; (I)you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male slave or his female slave or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
18 (J)And all the people perceived the [a]thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and the people perceived it, and they shook and stood at a distance. 19 (K)Then they said to Moses, “Speak [b]to us yourself, and we will listen; but let not God speak [c]to us, lest we die.” 20 And Moses said to the people, “(L)Do not be afraid; for God has come in order (M)to test you, and in order that (N)the fear of Him may [d]be with you, so that you may not sin.”
The Law of Yahweh Is Perfect
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
19 The (A)heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And the (B)expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
2 Day to (C)day pours forth [a]speech,
And (D)night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no [b]speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
4 Their [c](E)line has gone out through all the earth,
And their utterances to the end of the world.
In them He has (F)placed a tent for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.
6 Its (G)rising is from [d]one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the [e]other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 (H)The law of Yahweh is [f](I)perfect, (J)restoring the soul;
The testimony of Yahweh is (K)sure, making (L)wise the simple.
8 The precepts of Yahweh are (M)right, (N)rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of Yahweh is (O)pure, (P)enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of Yahweh is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of Yahweh are (Q)true; they are (R)righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than (S)gold, even more than much fine gold;
(T)Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them (U)Your slave is warned;
In keeping them there is great (V)reward.
12 Who can (W)discern his errors? (X)Acquit me of (Y)hidden faults.
13 Also keep back Your slave (Z)from presumptuous sins;
Let them not (AA)rule over me;
Then I will be [g](AB)blameless,
And I shall be acquitted of (AC)great transgression.
14 Let the [h]words of my mouth and (AD)the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Yahweh, (AE)my rock and my (AF)Redeemer.
4 although (A)I myself might have confidence even in the flesh. If anyone else has a mind to put confidence in the flesh, I far more: 5 (B)circumcised the eighth day, of the (C)nation of Israel, of the (D)tribe of Benjamin, a (E)Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the Law, (F)a Pharisee; 6 as to zeal, (G)a persecutor of the church; as to the (H)righteousness which is in the Law, found (I)blameless.
7 But (J)whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 More than that, I count all things to be loss because of the surpassing value of [a](K)knowing (L)Christ Jesus my Lord, [b]for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having (M)a righteousness of my own which is from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, (N)the righteousness which is from God upon faith, 10 that I may (O)know Him and (P)the power of His resurrection and [c](Q)the fellowship of His sufferings, being (R)conformed to His death, 11 [d]in order that I may (S)attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Pressing On Toward the Goal
12 Not that I have already (T)obtained it or have already (U)become perfect, but I press on [e]so that I may (V)lay hold of that [f]for which also I (W)was laid hold of by (X)Christ Jesus. 13 Brothers, I do not consider myself as having laid hold of it yet, but one thing I do: (Y)forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I (Z)press on toward the goal for the prize of the (AA)upward call of God in (AB)Christ Jesus.
Parable of the Vine-Growers
33 “Listen to another parable. (A)There was a [a]landowner who (B)planted a (C)vineyard and put a [b]wall around it and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and rented it out to [c]vine-growers and (D)went on a journey. 34 Now when the [d]harvest time approached, he (E)sent his slaves to the vine-growers to receive his fruit. 35 And the vine-growers took his slaves and beat one, and killed another, and stoned a third. 36 Again he (F)sent another group of slaves larger than the first; and they did the same thing to them. 37 But afterward he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the vine-growers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’ 39 And they took him, and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 Therefore when the [e]owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-growers?” 41 They *said to Him, “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end, and (G)will rent out the vineyard to other vine-growers who will pay him the proceeds at the proper seasons.”
42 Jesus *said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures,
‘(H)The stone which the builders rejected,
This has become the chief corner stone;
This came about from the [f]Lord,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’?
43 Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation, producing the fruit of it. 44 And (I)he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.”
45 And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He *was speaking about them. 46 And although they were seeking to seize Him, they (J)feared the crowds, because they were regarding Him to be a (K)prophet.
