Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
10 Listen, daughter, look and incline your ear:
(A)Forget your people and your father’s house;
11 Then the King will crave your beauty.
Because He is your (B)Lord, (C)bow down to Him.
12 The daughter of (D)Tyre will come with a gift;
The (E)wealthy among the people will seek your favor.
13 The King’s daughter is all glorious within;
Her clothing is (F)interwoven with gold.
14 She will be (G)brought to the King (H)in colorful garments;
The (I)virgins, her companions who follow her,
Will be brought to You.
15 They will be brought with joy and rejoicing;
They will enter into the King’s palace.
18 Then he came to his father and said, “My father.” And he said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?” 19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn; I have done as you told me. (A)Come now, sit and eat of my game, so that [a](B)you may bless me.” 20 Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have it so quickly, my son?” And he said, “(C)Because the Lord your God made it [b]come to me.” 21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come close, so that (D)I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not.” 22 So Jacob came close to his father Isaac, and he touched him and said, “The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.” 23 And he did not recognize him, because his hands were (E)hairy like his brother Esau’s hands; so he blessed him. 24 And he said, “Are you really my son Esau?” And he said, “I am.” 25 So he said, “Bring it to me, and I will eat of my son’s game, that [c](F)I may bless you.” And he brought it to him, and he ate; he also brought him wine and he drank. 26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Please come close and kiss me, my son.” 27 So he came close and kissed him; and when he smelled the smell of his garments, he (G)blessed him and said,
“See, (H)the smell of my son
Is like the smell of a field (I)which the Lord has blessed;
28 Now may (J)God give you of the dew of heaven,
And of the (K)fatness of the earth,
And an abundance of grain and new wine;
29 (L)May peoples serve you,
And nations bow down to you;
(M)Be master of your brothers,
(N)And may your mother’s sons bow down to you.
(O)Cursed be those who curse you,
And blessed be those who bless you.”
21 (A)At that very [a]time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I [b]praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for doing so was well pleasing in Your sight. 22 (B)All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and (C)no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son determines to reveal Him.”
23 (D)Turning to the disciples, He said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see the things you see; 24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things that you see, and did not see them, and to hear the things that you hear, and did not hear them.”
