Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
11 (A)Teach me Your way, Lord;
I will walk in Your truth;
(B)Unite my heart to fear Your name.
12 I will (C)give thanks to You, Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forever.
13 For Your graciousness toward me is great,
And You have (D)saved my soul from the [a]depths of [b]Sheol.
14 God, arrogant men have (E)risen up against me,
And a gang of violent men have sought my [c]life,
And they have not set You before them.
15 But You, Lord, are a (F)compassionate and gracious God,
Slow to anger and abundant in mercy and [d]truth.
16 (G)Turn to me, and be gracious to me;
(H)Grant Your strength to Your servant,
And save the (I)son of Your maidservant.
17 (J)Show me a sign of good,
That those who hate me may (K)see it and be ashamed,
Because You, Lord, (L)have helped me and comforted me.
Descendants of Ishmael
12 Now these are the records of the generations of (A)Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s slave woman, bore to Abraham; 13 and these are the names of (B)the sons of Ishmael, by their names, [a]in the order of their birth: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 14 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, 15 Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. 16 These are the sons of Ishmael and these are their names, by their villages, and by their camps; (C)twelve princes according to their [b]tribes. 17 These are the years of the life of Ishmael, (D)137 years; and he breathed his last and died, and was (E)gathered to his people. 18 They [c]settled from (F)Havilah to (G)Shur which is [d]east of Egypt [e]going toward Assyria; (H)he [f]settled in defiance of all his relatives.
Message to Smyrna
8 “And to the angel of the church in (A)Smyrna write:
(B)The first and the last, who [a](C)was dead, and has come to life, says this:
9 ‘I know your (D)tribulation and your (E)poverty (but you are (F)rich), and the [b]slander by those who (G)say they are Jews, and are not, but are a synagogue of (H)Satan. 10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, so that you will be (I)tested, and you will have tribulation (J)for ten days. [c]Be (K)faithful until death, and I will give you (L)the crown of life. 11 (M)The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (N)The one who overcomes will not be hurt by the (O)second death.’
